All Android/Google All the Time (2 Viewers)

I've been on a crusade to clear up space on my phone since I'm convinced that Android runs like dog **** when the HD is almost full.  I noticed that several of my apps had very large caches.  For instance Skype had a 3gb cache for some god forsaken reason.

However, when I clear these caches, my phone does not show any additional space.  In the app settings, the cache for Skype now shows as 12kb instead of 3gb, but in the storage section of the phone settings it still shows the same 21gb of space used as it did before.  Anyone know what gives?

I still have the HTC One M7. Besides the camera having the pink/purple issues, rendering it useless in poor lighting, I'm still happy with the phone. I'm thinking of upgrading to the S7 or waiting for the HTC One M10. Do they no longer give out deals after your contract expires? Buy one, get one free or getting the phone for like $200 worth a 2 year contract? It's not really worth it paying $600 for a new phone when I'm still pretty happy with the one I have. I have Verizon.

My guess would be that it's "reserved," or allotted for XYZ app by design. Which is brutal, not a fan of that and unless essential those apps are donezo when I find them IMO.

Have you rebooted?

If so and it is still like that, do a bit of research on how to "wipe cache from recovery"

The contract is pretty much always NOT in your favor.  Like 99% of the time.

Keep in mind that the contract plans with subsidized phones are more expensive monthly than the month to month plans, especially if you have more than one phone on the plan.  With Verizon I believe you can go online and do a side by side comparison of the two.  For me (two lines, 6gb data) it was about $30 more expensive each month for the contract plan so I would have paid the price difference of the phone back to them in about a year, with a whole additional year of the higher contract plan still to go.

Woah...hold on.

I thought the benefit of signing a contract for them was that you are locked in for 2 years and for us, that we get a phone at a cheaper price for it. So there's no real reason to sign a contract? I pay $50 per month for each of 2 devices, with an additional $50 just listed under "Account charges and credits" Am I paying that extra $50 because I'm under contract? My contract expired but that still gets charged? I guess since I'm still signed up under the rules of that contract, eh?

Is the other plan, without contract, the pre-paid plan?

Our phones are up for renewal next month.  What exactly are we saying here?  The "contract" approach is not any different than the "no contract" approach?

I am so disappointed with my note 5. I wish more than anything I had switched to an iphone 6+

My battery life is beyond miserable. While I play battery intensive games like Clash of Clans and now Clash royale, people on iphones have zero battery issues with these games.

My note 3 was the best phone I ever owned. I thought the 5 would be an upgrade. Was wrong and am now stuck with a bum phone for two years. Im pretty sure the battery is drained or damaged and I just got the phone the first week of January

Have you considered going to the manufacturer for a warranty claim if you think it is an actual defect?  When my Nexus 5 seemed to have some battery issues (and this was 10 months in) I worked with Google Customer Support and they sent me a refurbished unit that had a new battery in it.  Waa-lah.

No, I had not thought about that. Listen, I use the phone a lot. I know the stupid games I play are a drain, but I took it off the charger at 7:00 this morning and Im down to 60% in a little less than 4 hours. Thanks for the suggestion. Ill look and see if there is any warranty information

I am surprised to hear that as the Note 5 is by many accounts the best phone of 2015.

This was my experience when switching from note 3 to note 4.  Note 3 was awesome in every aspect especially battery.  The battery in the 4 is awful in comparison, and really makes me regret the "upgrade".  I'm glad you posted this because I had heard the 5 had an improved battery and was considering it.  That's not gonna happen now.

PSA: Nova Launcher Prime is on sale for $0.99 in the Google Play store.  (I know, do you even root, bro?)

This is my first time using it and I freaking love it.  So many options to customize the layout, icons, docks, etc., etc., etc.

Explain this to me like its me. Outside of how things look, what does it do

Honestly, it's mostly cosmetic but for me, the changes I made to a much cleaner home screen (removing labels, removing notification bar, tweaking icon grid, tweaking icon size etc.) make interfacing with the phone much easier and more pleasant.

Additionally, there are gestures you can set up.  For example, I set one up so that when I double-tap it brings me straight to the screen where I can text my wife.  No clicking on the contact and the text icon or going through messages, etc.  Swipe up and my phone is locked.  I know there are some gestures you can set up in Android already, but everything is highly customizable.

Still rocking my Note 3 because I love it so much.   Considering a 7 edge

I have a shortcut on the stock touchwiz, I tap it and it goes right to text my wife

Jamny, your eyes are open now.  Its a big hoodwink.
You are not kidding, my friend.

I went from a $151 monthly bill for both to a $48 bill for each with 3 shared GB's to 2GB each. :wall:

What a scam!

Thx to you and FreeBagel!

Now I can decide if I'll stick with Verizon once we decide to get new phones...at full price!

Hmm.  I put in upgrade device and Pay Full retail and my bill didn't change at all.  The only time it changed is if I paid monthly because they gave me a $25 credit so I'm confuused what you guys are saying

I thought I was getting the phone at a cheaper price because I was signing a contract, Turns out, I paid more for the phone during the life of the contract and even more after the contract expired because they still kept charging me the extra $50 a month. Pre-paid seems like the way to go, at least for us.

How are you guys lowering your bill by paying full price?   I'm out of contract but no matter what I do right now, my bill doesn't drop 50

Same here. Still love my Note 3 and haven't had the slightest urge to upgrade (admittedly, loss of removable battery is one thing keeping me from doing so).

These stories are making me glad I've kept it.

My daughter has the iPhone 6 and wife has 6s. I expected to be jealous by now, but I'd still take my Note 3 over either of them.

Yeah, my second battery on my note 3 was dying. Every power cord I bought was being fried and att did away with two year contracts. I needed to use my upgrade or pay full price for a phone. I upgraded. Would have been a lot better to just buy 10 more batteries.

I'm a bit lost here. :oldunsure:

Right now, I can get a Note5 for $299 (2 year contract) or $29 a month ($696 over the same 2 years).  That $696 is basically paying the retail for the phone over two years.  Are you saying you didn't realize that was the deal?

To me, it seems like the way to go (still) is the 2 year contract....what am I missing?

Your monthly plan price is supposed to be cheaper paying retail allegedly.  They are saying their phone bill is $50 cheaper buying a phone outright

Yes and then once you're doing pay off the phone, your bill will go down. As opposed to when you're on the contract and once the phone is paid off, you don't get a discount.

My plan's the same...actually a bit more.  I get a 27% discount that shows on my existing plan, but doesn't show on the new plan.

But I did get a discount after my 2 years was up.   Maybe I'm already discounted    After each phone reached it's contract expiration date I now have a discount on each line.   That must be the difference

So, looking closer...throwing my discount out (it's just confusing the #### out of me right now).  The 3G plan for me is $50 plus $40 each for phone access.  In the new monthly plan for 3G of data it's $45 a month plus $40 per phone access.  So I guess I'd get $5 a month back.  Over two years that's $120.  But I'm paying $299 vs $696 for the phone, so if numbers are correct, I am paying an additional $376 over the two years  $696-$200 = $496 more in phone cost but I "save" $120 on the plan, so $496-$120 = $376 in total cost.

Those of you on Verizon would be better served getting away from them and getting a GSM phone (that works with AT&T and T-Mobile).

Unless you live in some very rural area that only has Verizon coverage.

Verizon costs more than double than what you can get on an MVNO.

What if you switch plans?  If I move to their new plan my bill goes down $32  then I can figure out the price of my phones

So math guys.   Where am I wrong here?

If I switch plans I go from 191 to 159 without any new phones.

Now my 3 options are

159 a month 2year contract 360 out of pocket up front.

176 a month with 0 out of pocket with new $792 S7 (basically has the 33 a month added)

143 a month $792 out of pocket right now

Totals over 2 years

4176

4224

4224

How am I losing out by getting a contract?

Not sure I follow.  If I move from the 3Gig plan under contract to the 3Gig plan not under contract I "save" $5 a month on my plan.  It goes from $50 down to $45.
