At 10:45, I will roll for Eephus and Spartans Rule and assign the draft order.  They will be on autoskip until checking in to the thread, at which point they may make up any missed picks.  2 hour clock starts at 11AM Eastern Time.  I'll get started on a Google spreadsheet, but be gentle, I'm a lawyer.

Since this is a historical draft, are we assuming that the player we draft is going to be judged on his "peak season" or at the height of his career?

Anyone who wants to offer an opinion or vote in a pool gets to value that stuff personally.  There are no guidelines.  You can make you case when you make your pick or submit your gameday lineup.

FYI, for now the Spreadsheet is only editable by me and Acer.  I'll open it up once I'm done with all the tabs.  If the order gets screwed up on the Draft Tab, just PM me.  I have a hidden column that I can use to re-sort correctly.

A couple requests:

I'm not going to know anyone after the first ten or so, and no one by my pick.  Please post a quick blurb on your guy (and maybe why you took him or how he fits in with your team / formation) when you take him so we can all learn a little more about these guys as they are picked.

Please PM the next up when you make your pick... especially me.  If I don't get PM'ed and get an alert to come in and pick you guys are going to be sick of autoskipping me pretty quick.

Thanks!

I'm torn between two guys, but in the interest of saving money on cocaine, I'm selecting...

1.03 - Cristiano Ronaldo

In addition to having the abs worthy of a John Mayer song, he's constantly in arguments over who is the GOAT: Ronaldo or Messi (even though Pele is also deserving of being in the mix). I went with him over the other guy (who I'm sure will be picked very, very soon) not just for the lack of cocaine in his life, but also the club performance as well as the fact that he's fairly versatile. I plan on running a 4-2-3-1 Wide and he can occupy the AML or ST positions (probably AML for me) while the other guy was pretty much an AMC only.

In the interest of furthering discussion ...  How do you rate Pele?  For years, he was the face of soccer to me.  To the point that it was odd to hear that there were other players (even ones I had seen) who had claims to the best ever title.  When you watch him on YouTube, you see the skill.  The incredible balance. The excellent dribbling.  But you also see some calamitous defending and goal keeping.

He has the most "Black Ink".  Reports of over 1000 competitive goals scored (always hard to tell in Brazil).  His teams won a lot of club honors from 1962-1966 or so, but other than that 4 year period, Santos didn't dominate Brazil, much less South America. He really only has two meaningful games against European club sides, but he won both of them and scored a hattrick to beat __________'s Benfica in the 62 Intercontinental Cup.  He has the 3 World Cups, but there's an asterisk there because he really wasn't part of the 64 World Cup.  He was the most famous player on the most beloved international team ever, but that team was LOADED.  The majority of them are going to be drafted in this. You can argue that he wasn't the most outstanding player in any of his World Cup wins.

He's there with Messi, Ronaldo, and ######## with me.

Obviously, Ronaldo's big hole is international success.  It's not as if he hasn't come close.  Losing the Euro final to Greece (he was just a pup then).  He's gotten to the semis in the World Cup and the Euros since (and another QF in the Euros).  But he hasn't had the great international moment.  And his strike rate with Portugal (56 in 125 games) is kind of pedestrian compared to this level of completion (Messi's international strike rate isn't amazing either).
