Alone ( A real survival type show) (1 Viewer)

Glad to see all 4 made it through another episode.

Kielyn - She was sure excited to get those fish.  Good for her.

Amos - Damn, wolves scoping his camp out,  don't think I would be able to sleep.

Roland - He sure knows how to use every part of an animal.  Hope he can get a couple fish.

Callie - That was a nasty fall she took.

Still 50 days left and only 2 episodes to go?  Does that mean no one makes it or do they not show much for days as they are just sitting in their shelters?

Kielyn - She was sure excited to get those fish.  Good for her.  I thought she'd break through the ice the way she was jumping up and down hysterically.

Amos - Damn, wolves scoping his camp out,  don't think I would be able to sleep. He had a bow and an animal within easy shot distance and his spear.  I would have gone for a kill shot and gotten some meat and a pelt but we saw in the preview for next week that his shelter goes up in smoke so I would imagine he's out even if he somehow put out the fire.  The effort to fix a shelter in those temps after losing so much body fat and energy took out the other guy with the kids but he was going nuts.

Roland - He sure knows how to use every part of an animal.  Hope he can get a couple fish.  I want to see his cache of food stores because he must have more fat.  I think it is such a run-away with Roland that the producers are trying to manufacture drama.

Callie - That was a nasty fall she took.  Not that bad.  Not deep cut.  She popped right back up and you could tell she was ok. I

I think Amos is gone after the fire, either next week or soon after.

Kielyn seems to be cracking up but she's got the most winter experience.

Callie needs fish and she hasn't put in her gill net.  I don't know how she's survived to this point and it looks like she is desperate enough to go spelunking into the cave for the porcupine she shot with her bow a few episodes back.

Roland is rolling.

I don't watch the previews, so no idea he had a fire...

A ***** in his armor.  I didn't realize musk ox were so lean, Roland looks to be having fat issues.  He's lost 44 pounds.  Even if he was a chunky rock heading out that's a ton of weight.  He's gonna need some fish or something.

Day 49 after 9 episodes is a tell imo. Hard to see Roland making that call but figured we’d be up to 70 by now if they made it.

Unless the last 30 days is just Roland sitting there I guess. I don’t think the other 3 have any chance.

Anyone that finds food has a chance.  All it takes is success fishing and they have all the nutrition they need to last 40 more days.

Callie's fishing spot...#### that, even without wind and ice.

Nobody else thought Roland was going to run naked into the musk ox herd wearing only the pelt from his ceiling and wearing the face? I imagine he's written a letter or three to penthouse forum that begin pretty much verbatim like that.

Only 2 eps left? Cripes...it's such a fine line out there, it's possible none of them make it. Roland does seem the likeliest, especially if he can get fish...or another muskox. At this point kielyn seems next best, but has come across as genuinely missing home/husband too much to make it another 50 days.

I feel like at least one of the seasons I watched ended with days clicking by pretty quickly or in jumps. Not 50 days, but still- there's precedent for fast forwarding time quickly.

In Slave Lake, AB, the first day of November is 09 hours, 11 minutes long. The last day of the month is 07 hours, 31 minutes, so the length of the days gets 01 hours, 39 minutes shorter in November 2020.
Day 50 puts them in the middle.

They are just about at the point that if they sleep 8.5 hours, they will be spending 8 hours awake in the dark.

I was initially shocked when he didn’t make a move on the herd but it makes sense. Could have been trampled pretty easily. I would have ran in there like Leeroy Jenkins but Ol Rolly knows what he’s doing out there.

Less about being trampled, more about it being nigh impossible to get within bow range with that many different animals that might detect you ("too many eyeballs) and he later said he didn't want to scare the herd into other contestants' areas so they could get fed.  Maybe only one can win the $1M?  Seems weird to do a big F you to others unless that's the case.

It sounds like everyone could win a million if they make it to 100 days. Maybe Roland wants to be the only one? It has to be in the back of everyone's mind that nobody is going to last that long and maybe the producers will reward the person that lasted the longest.

   Ever seen a musk ox or been close to a bison?

His reasoning wasn't just self preservation, it was crafty.

He said he didn't want to spook the herd so it would wander to another contestant's area.  He took a shot at Callie by snarling and mockingly spitting 'I'm not on some SPIRITUAL journey.  I'm out to win.'

Saw a musk ox up in Alaska but from a very-safe distance but it is a sight.

So many bison stories... so many.
I saw a car that had been gored by a bison. There's a preserve about an hour away. Evidently honking and inching up on a bison in the road isn't a good idea 🤣

First time I went to Yellowstone a snowstorm hit closing it so we didn't see any bison.  The second time I was moving across the country and wanted to see a bison but nothing so I pulled off the main drag to rest and have lunch.  I was mulling around for a good half hour in the car when all of a sudden I noticed a bison right outside of my open car window about two feet from me in bushes that were all around my car.  Then I saw another that was four feet away, then another.  I was completely surrounded by an entire herd that I didn't hear or see for a half hour.  Freaked me out because I was driving a tiny little Honda and each of them were bigger than my car.

I drove to point that crosses the middle of the park.  This was in 1992 and at that time their was a narrow one-lane wooden bridge over a roiling-boiling flowing rapids and it looked very shaky to cross.  I was next to go across but for some 'unknown' reason I stopped.  The guy behind me laid on the horn but for some reason I could not move and then for a reason I still to this day do not understand I leaned as far as I could and looked up and to the back of my windshield and saw an ENORMOUS bison on a ledge about fifty feet about my car.

Took my breath away but then ....  He .LEAPT off the cliff right down in front of my car at the EXACT SPOT I would have been had I not stopped.

He would have knocked my little car down into the rapids where I wouldn't have survived.

The guy behind me stopped honking his horn and I could see his head on a swivel looking around and he gave me plenty of room to cross the bridge.

I was shock too at weigh loss for Roland.   This is going to come down to ice fishing imho..

The Kielyn drama was so over the top it was obvious she wasn't tapping.  She did get a major advantage with her area icing up.  I think she goes the distance.

Yeah, thought the drama was a little much.  Interesting that Amos had already tapped before the fire., he definitely would have tapped afterward.

That must have been frustrating to lose that fish after hours of fishing.  I get pissed when I lose one, but I still get to go home and have lunch.  Depending on it for your survival can put you into a depression.

Not even 2/3'd the way to 100, but we are getting a 3 hour finale, so I think there will be days skipped in there, but I think we will get a good amount of footage.

I am thinking that Kielyn and Roland make it to the end while Callie taps out.

I think it definitely helps when you get to this point that the end day is in sight, if it was like previous seasons, you are always thinking, how many are left?  IS there only 2 or 3?  How close are they to tapping, maybe one more day and I will win.  I'm curious how long Fowler could have gone, he made 87 days and could have gone on going, but not in the arctic.

Their is only episode left, no one is going to 100 days.

Everyone but Roland taps so he will be the last one left.

Question about the show/items allowed that I looked into but couldn't find an answer.

Fish is obviously the primary sustainable food source high in fat without competition from predictors.

They are allowed to bring a gill net and a ton of para cord and we've seen contestants make gill nets out of para cord so why not bring a gill net.

Throw the gill net you brought into the water assuring 'passive' fishing while you set traps assuring 'passive' hunting.

Then...

Make ANOTHER gill net out of para cord and set it in a different spot assuring twice the fishing catch?

Is their a reason why no-one has gamed the system by doing this?

I disagree that no one definitely makes it 100 days.  In previous seasons, they speed up how fast the days progress as the number of contestants gets down to 2 or 3.

With 3 hours, they definitely have time to get to 100 days.

You only get 10 items.  If you want a gill net and para cord it counts as 2 items.

I know para cord and a gill net count as two items.

Of the contestants who brought both a gill net and para cord is their any reason why they can't make an extra gill net and put in two doubling their catch?

Heck make two or three extra gill nets if allowable and have multiple fishing spots.

They showed someone making one, so there is nothing stopping them.  You get 80m of 550 paracord.

That is over 262 feet.  I 'believe' the gill net is limited to 12 feet length and it looks about half of that in width so 72 feet for one gill net.  They could easily make two extra and still have over 100 feet to use for 'other'.

Seems like a huge missed opportunity to not have three gill nets at a time doing passive fishing.  I had not seen a rule against this strategy.

Duh.  A 72 foot gill net has a lot more than only 72 feet of para cord because you need to thread multiple hoops within that framework so I'm not sure exactly how much para cord is needed to make one gill net but it is obviously a lot more than only 72 feet.

Paracord can be debraided so that can really jack up your total length.

One of them insinuated again last night that the mil is for the last person still there/alive after a 100 days. He’s this ever been cleared up by the show? I think we were all under the impression that anybody who made it got the loot.

I worked in Yellowstone the summer of 93.

Was driving back from Cody one night. It’s of course pitch black and you can see other cars headlights for miles if there are no obstructions.

There is a car way off coming towards me and they start flashing their headlights. I don’t have my brights on so I flash back.

They then start turning their lights off and on. Well that’s weird so I flash again. I then turn off my lights just to do it for a second and I then realize that there is a herd of buffalo crossing the road and it wasn’t that they were turning their lights off - the buffalo were blocking their lights as they passed in front of their car.

I am able to stop in time, other wise I don’t think I’d be here. Hitting one of those things at 50 would be not so good.

I've never seen anything official.  On another site I read that anyone who makes it 100 days gets 500K.  I can't find the details anywhere.

If next week is the finale I don't think anybody make 100 days. They're on Day 58 and everyone is looking for extra food especially fat. Weather is only going to deteriorate more.

It is a 3 hour show.. Based on past seasons they have no problem jumping 10, 20, 30 days ahead.. Have to figure with the snow, cold, lack of food and sun they won't be venturing out much going forward.

Roland had 2 cords of fire wood chopped and split on day 100.

LOL at the white out drama.  You aren't setting up a camera showing you walking to shore if you're concern about not getting back.

Have to do something to entertain yourself after being alone for 80+ days.. Not to mention, with so little sunlight and time outside, I'm sure they are told "Try your best to add some drama".

Roland killed it this season..
Finishes off an OX with a knife.. Beats a Porcupine to death.. surprised we didn't see him dive in the Hole in the ice to grab a fish by his teeth ;)
