Just caught up on this season. These guys are good. A guy crossing the Pacific alone man that takes some real kahones.
I can appreciate how the guy felt bad about killing animals it gets to me too . That's why I don't hunt (not that there is anything wrong with that). I always tell myself that the fish I catch brains are to small to feel pain. Don't know if that's true but it makes me feel better.

it's true- totally true! mostly. kind of. as far as you know!
my wife gave up eating mammal a long time ago. part of the reasoning for continuing to eat fish and fowl was that she didn't want to eat anything with a cute face.
which guy sailed across the pacific? pretty amazing to do... and psychologically great for getting in mental shape for this, I'd imagine. wasn't it the Mexican guy who did 100 days solo in the cold? the one who gained 60 pounds for this? my money is on him right now, but overall a really strong group of contestants. even large marge would be decent money to make a run here if not for her age (and I genuinely hope to be proven wrong about that).

Ok, doc. Tell that to the guy who's an alpaca shearer.
But anyways, the Doc has some cool skills...loved his firepit. looking forward to seeing him and others adjust as things get harder.
Also really dug the guy with the tin can fireplace and chimney...very cool.
I might have misheard, but thought he said, "becoming a doctor is expensive," and he then referred to the tuition costs and stuff.
I love the guy who made the tin can stove, too.

He's my bet to win right now, though I'll again mention I'm terrible at these predictions. I'd also like the chances of the guy originally from South Africa (Tom?), except I think he might have started too skinny. A lot of these folks learned from prior seasons and put on some weight in advance.

It's not really for our entertainment though. They are going to eat wherever they are, so whether it's a squirrel in Canada or a deer at home in Arkansas or shopping the chicken aisle at Kroger something is gonna die to feed them. Hell the show is probably the best bet for animal survival, they are eating way less there than they would over the same timespan at home.

Good, #### those things. Trapping is the most evil thing ever. I get hunting for food but terrorizing an animal and then leaving it to die to exposure should earn the trapper a few hours in a fireant nest.

I think my favorite thing I've seen on any survival show is the guy making flies out of his own multi colored hair.

Finally, they all started to build some impressive shelters in the latest episode.
I love the one that the lady is building right into the side of the hill where she's using 4 standing trees at the corners, building up her front wall laying a big log/tree horizontally while staking it in and then moving earth to insulate. That shelter is my favorite so-far.
Not sure how near to her water source the shelter is but I like her use of existing trees where she doesn't waste time/energy, chopping down, stripping, hauling large trees/logs.

I dunno. I'm thinking the guy who said F the shelter, I'm going to spend my time gathering food while the weather is nice, has the right idea. You're wearing yourself out and missing out on a lot of prime hunting/fishing/trapping time while building a permanent shelter. Of course, if you dont get food, you may be too exhausted to build it when you need it. It's a risk, but I think waiting is the smart play.

I like the concept of learning the site for optimal shelter location and using the time to hunt... but it will be a fine line with energy levels and the combatting the weather.

When you only have 3 courses of a log cabin, how is it difficult to transition to a different type of shelter? Can' t you just add some posts and a ridge pole, and then use what you have as the bottom of the walls.
Is there not some way to tie a fishing line to your arrows when you are shooting at beavers in the water? Seems like that would eliminate the problem they both had of trying to find the beaver, and pulling it in to shore.

Seconded about not being able to pivot to a different shelter from massive log cabin. I assume he brought a tarp?

I wonder how long before Alone has somebody die? I know they're increasingly casting very skilled, trained and capable participants...but seems like they're also taking bigger risks (and I know a risk for me is far less so for them). Except for the first guy who missed his puppy

Yeah I seem to remember about contestant I think from California, a young guy, that tapped after significant time and had like 2 rows of logs too. I’m thinking like what did you do all day?

Right. And, somehow, The History Channel is not on any of the services I mentioned above.
Basically it's only Cable or the full Hulu (live TV) package.

We laid out the 20 for it on Apple TV. If you went to see a movie in the theaters for two people that would be 30 bucks before one snack and it’s only 2 hours. Why isn’t this worth it?

Your logic is sound, but I'm paying way too much for stuff already to start jamming in another $20/show. I'll do without until it's somewhere for free. Not exactly sure how I watched the first three episodes now though.

We downloaded the history app from our Roku. We watch the weeks episode two or three days after it has aired. Can’t watch it live but I don’t mid waiting a few days.

This seasons contestants are far more skilled with getting food or this area has a more food opportunity than the previous places. At least it seems that way.
Glad to see it this way. I hate when people just try to wait it out. Seeing some decent shelters, some hunting, trapping and fishing.
Big question: will anyone get the bear?

Agree. A lot of time in the edit has been given to the idea of it. Beaver hunter #1 already setting up those lures and at least one of the contestants discussed previously successfully hunting them.
