Alright, it's official Manning is greedy (1 Viewer)

He's completed 11 passes in a row. Can you take a player out of the game half way through the 3rd quarter?

Anyone who thinks Manning isn't gunning for the record is delusional.
Will you James owners stop crying already. Who really cares if he is going for the record, as long as it is not affecting his team, and apparently it is not. :loco: P.S. Manning is single handedly beating me in the only two leagues i am still in playoff contention in.
I just think it's ridiculous...I don't recall Marino gunning for the record like this. You shouldn't be playing the game for an individual record, you play to win.He should not be throwing as much as he does being up by 20-30+ just 0 sportsmanship.I used to be a fan of him, but after the past few games I'm becoming less and less of a fan of him.

I'm gonna join the crowd that thinks Manning is over the top. 2nd and 4 with a 4 TD lead and he throws it again. I don't care if it's Moore, Manning, or Dungy throwing that much, this late. It's running up the score and padding the stats at this point. And I don't own any Colts, nor am I playing against any this week...If he's still in the next series....

Manning & Dungy losing a lot of respect if this continues. Who is the backup QB in INDY. Do they even dress one?

i can't believe dungy's letting him hurt the team like this...

Seriously, enough with all the TD PASSES in the red zone.4 yards to Stokley12 yards to Stokley13 yards to Harrison10 yards to Harrison 5 yards to HarrisonAt least throw some screens to Edge for crapssakes......3 for 16 yards? Gimme a break.:conspiracytheorist:

back-up QB Jim Sorgy...he wasn't that good playing at Wisconsin - then again he didn't have these type of weapons either.Question - did Jimmy Johnson and Emmitt Smith lose respect when they kept rushing in TD's (to set a record?)?

Peyton's packup: Jim SorgiHe does double duty as the guy who lines up the helmets in a nice row when they are not being worn.He also holds Peyton's cell phone and wallet, and gets all of Dungy's groceries. They found him at a restaurant waiting on a table for a dinner of Dungy and Peyton were the rumoured topic of discussion was Edgerrin James and them conspiring to lower his bargaining power. He overheard and told them he would rat them out to the NFLPA if they didn't give him some odd jobs to do around the team and give him mop-up duty in games...which is just another way to keep Edge from getting stats and his K-WON!

Not hurting the team, but it doesn't matter if he has 5 TD's instead of 4 due to running the ball and running the clock. It would not affect their record if he wasn't still in the hurry up and passing 2 of 3 downs when they are up 20+ in the third

The only problem with the "going for the record" theory is that he is extremely effective. Would running James more in the red zone yield better results? Until Manning starts turning it over in the red zone or stops putting it in the endzone, the Colts would be foolish to hand it off.

At least there's a bright side for Edge owners; at this rate, Manning will have the record in 2 more games, and they can start going back to a realistic offense after that.

Excellent point, forgot about that.I'm not sure if now Peyton looks worse since running the ball is what is typically done when running out the clock.

Do you Peyton haters really think he cares about your FF team? I have never in my life seen a group of babies and whiners such as this. :X

Nothing to do with fantasy... I could care less if edge scores a TD. Its about football.

I really dont understand points like this? He is playing to win? Why should anyone let up to "respect" the record, when obviously they could shatter it. What kind of a record would it be if future players didnt play to the best of their abilities to "honour" the old record. Manning is showing he is one of the greatest QBs ever, and deserves 100 TDs in a season if the competition allows him to get it.Does anyone have stats for Marino's season where he got the record? I really have no idea but am curious if any of his games were "out of hand" but he kept throwing anyways? All I can find are the game scores, but no game logs.

Then you should be happy. Manning is a damn good football player, is he not?

This is so sad...One of sports genuine good guys is having a season better than any QB EVER and some jealous fools want to badmouth him for it. Never mind that his team is winning... This really is sickening to me. I guess I'm not equipped with a personality or value system that is prone to belittle that which is good and successful. Peyton Manning is the league’s best player and best spokesperson with little room to argue otherwise. Some of you need to examine your inner soul to find out what is causing such irrational hatred toward another successful human being who is doing exactly what he is paid to do…AND doing it better than any man who has tried before.

Yes he is great... just a punk who is looking to shatter a record and is bending the idea of sportsmanship - its not like they need to outscore their opponent to get a better BCS ranking...Records should come from playing the game. I don't have a problem with him throwing from the 1 yd line or any of that... What I have a problem with is him throwing the ball 2 of 3 times when up by a significant amount...If he got all of those TD's when the game wasnt a blow out, I'd have no issue with him

So you agree with blowing teams out just for the sake of a record? Maybe you should examine your inner sole... Thats not what a game is about... its about winning

Oh, the "feelings" argument. A football game is 60 minutes long. If your opponent can't keep up, that's their problem. The team in the lead should not stop trying just because they're up by a few. If passing is what works, then pass for crying out loud. It's not like they're neglecting the run...Edge is getting a ton of 100 yard games.

Football is about never giving up, whether you're in the lead or not.

He sat out the entire 4th quarter today. He did not get 300 yards out of mercy. Detroit handed them the ball all day. I guess they should have punted on first down so as to not show "poor sportsmanship"? Again, I'm not equipped with a value system that allows me to belittle another human being for succeeding at the highest possible level of the task that he is performing.

If he can get the record, go for it. It's as simple as that. What idiot thinks that coaches go to the history books to see if all of Marino's passes were legitimate? Who the hell cares. Like TO said, make the defense stop you Peyton.

You are an idiot.. He played the game to win and once it was out of reach he sat. Enough with this bull####.. It's amazing how dumb people can be. Let him play the game the way he does. Who are you to disagree with it?? :hot:  :wall:

I don't think there's any doubt that he's going for the record. But who cares as long as he's winning the games at the same time?

Let me just say I am no fan of Manning or the Colts, but I love how people talk about how, "Marino didn't set the record this way." Like even 80% of you remember that season Marino got it.And I can guarantee probably that same 80% (if not higher) were not playing Fantasy football during that season.Quit letting fantasy football cloud your opinion of what is a great string of games by a QB. Indy is doing what it has to win--plain and simple. When your QB only has like 28 complete passes on the day and 6 of them go for Td's that's not rubbing it in, that's just good.I am an Edge owner in two leagues BTW.

Wow... I was giving my opinion on that I don't agree with it - Simple enough - Don't know that it calls for an attack.I do remember Marino setting the record and I do not remember it in the same fashion. I don't agree that Manning is using any sportsmanship... he didnt take himself out.. Dungy took him out - Argue all you want about this.... I agree he is a great player and will end up as one of the top 5-10 of all time

i would have an issue with his tds if the colts were the team getting blown out and he got them all in garbage time. but if you are the team doing the blowing out and the passing tds are wide open, which just about all of them are, how is he being greedy? if oposing teams could match tds with him, the record would be legit? he is too good for his own goodif anything, marino was greedy. all he ever wanted to do was throw the ball. when jimmy johnson took over and he wanted to run, it caused friction. as soon as marino retires, lamar smith tears up the league and they go to the playoffs and win a game. if marino was the qb, he throws the ball all over the field and the fins dont even make the playoffs.

cbs had a graphic that showed manning at 41 tds through 11 weeks, and marino with 30 through the same amount of games.here are some scores from the 1984 dolphin season 1 | at Washington Redskins | W | 35-17 || 2 | New England Patriots | W | 28- 7 || 3 | at Buffalo Bills | W | 21-17 || 4 | Indianapolis Colts | W | 44- 7 || 5 | at St. Louis Cardinals | W | 36-28 || 6 | at Pittsburgh Steelers | W | 31- 7 || 7 | Houston Oilers | W | 28-10 || 8 | at New England Patriots | W | 44-24 || 9 | Buffalo Bills | W | 38- 7 || 10 | at New York Jets | W | 31-17 || 11 | Philadelphia Eagles | W | 24-23 || 12 | at San Diego Chargers | L | 28-34 || 13 | New York Jets | W | 28-17 || 14 | Los Angeles Raiders | L | 34-45 || 15 | at Indianapolis Colts | W | 35-17 || 16 | Dallas Cowboys | W | 28-21 i see alot of blowouts.35-1728-744-731-728-1044-2438-7etcetcplus, the fins had the 7th ranked defense on the year that yearpeople probably dont remember it the same way cause back then all you had was a 30 minute pre game show and half the country still used rabit ears on their tvs. no internet, no 24 hr talk shows, etc

WRONG. There's an unwritten code in football that you do not run up the score on your opponent. There is good reason for this custom. To illustrate, here's a story... I work for a high school team that last year beat its rival handily. With a big lead in the 4th quarter, they threw the ball on the 2nd and 1 and scored a TD. The opposing team was furious needless to say. This year, my team played their archrivals again. My team was 8-1 and only needed to win the game to make the state playoffs. The other team was 3-6 and a huge underdog. Long story short, the other team played the game like it was the state championship. There were signs all over the stadium reminding players and fans of the disrespect shown last year. And even though my team got off to a big lead, this other team drew upon the emotion of last year's humiliation and ended up scoring 20 points in the 4th quarter to win.So you tell me - was last year's extra TD pass worth it? Was it worth all the animosity? Was it worth the upset the following year? Was it worth a state title?? Unless you've played football, you can't really appreciate how much the game is about emotion and bulletin board material.Mark your calendars - in two weeks Peyton and the Colts will play Houston in Houston - after humiliating them a couple weeks ago - the infamous game when Peyton was gunning the ball up by 4 TD's late in the 4th quarter. Houston players took it personally. If the Colts lose in an upset in two weeks, it could significantly hurt their playoff seeding. You tell me - was it worth it??Football is a team sport. Individual records are silly in football. You gotta love the Patriots and Tom Brady. It's all about team with them - no individual accolades. And THAT is why they've won 2 Superbowls. Peyton will break the record, but the Colts team will suffer for it in the long run. Mark my words.

I don't think the Colts are intentionally running up scores, humiliating opponents or shattering records. They are just firing on all cylinders and rolling along. They're also keeping Edge healthy for when it really matters. That said, I'll take contrarian angle also... when they do finally fall back to earth, they are going to get punched in the mouth a few times and hard. Remember the '01-'02 Rams. Poor old Kurt Warner, sometimes when he's up against certain teams you can still see the vengeance factor at work.

You gotta love the Patriots and Tom Brady. It's all about team with them - no individual accolades. And THAT is why they've won 2 Superbowls. Peyton will break the record, but the Colts team will suffer for it in the long run. Mark my words.
so if brady wins an MVP its not about the team anymore. hey, he got an individual accolade

All you HATERS, i mean people, who bash Manning for throwing TD's left and right need to wake up. If you were on pace to break one of the biggest records in the NFL, you would be doing the same damn thing. Anyone who says they wouldn't needs to put down the pipe, seriously!

Hate Marino actually... I'm a huge Jets fan.Peyton's the greatest QB in the game, I don't doubt that....Because my opinion differs from yours doesn't mean that I don't know football.People call various great players "punks" does that mean that they arent great players and the person calling the player a punk doesnt know football?? I dont really think so and Im sure you don't either.

Man, we're watching one of the most amazing seasons anybody has ever had in this here NFL. The negativity towards Manning is mind-boggling. What does it take to satisfy some people?

This is completely ridiculous. Manning is a pro athlete. He is doing his job, THROWING THE FOOTBALL. If Edge was going for the rushing TD record and kept breaking 50 yard runs when the Colts were up by 4 TDs, would anyone have a problem with that? Would everyone be calling for him to take a knee after getting a first down? Would everyone be calling for him to stop running and let the QB pass a couple? Hmmm... I doubt it. I'd bet that half you guys that are #####ing and whinning about this are getting screwed by Wayne/Harrison/Stokely and Manning every week in FF. Which further proves your sheer stupidity for not drafting those players. Quit whinning and enjoy the amazing show that Payton puts on.PS. GO CULPEPPER!

You are naive if you think your team lost because they whooped the other team the year before. They lost because they blew it.

I don't have a problem with him throwing from the 1 yd line or any of that... What I have a problem with is him throwing the ball 2 of 3 times when up by a significant amount...If he got all of those TD's when the game wasnt a blow out, I'd have no issue with him
Surprise, surprise...5 digits.

Ummm...What was he doing?FYI...Net points is a tiebreaker category in playoff seeding. These are pros, not kids. In other words, game on. If teams don't like it, maybe they should field a competitive team.

:rotflmao: Because I have five digits I don't know football as well as guys with three digits?!I guess this place is just not worth the time to post opinions... sigh
You don't know football because you called the best QB in the game a "punk."You  Dan Marino don't you?Maybe Peyton will let him wear his ring.
Calling someone a "punk" because they're about to break a record is a sign of mental weakness and a possible lack of Vitamin C. Beware of scurvy.

It was more about running up the score I had a problem with if you read through the previous posts. I could care less if he threw every time from the 1 yard line... great he broke the record with class. Running up the score and throwing 2/3 downs blowing anohter team out is another thing...

I swear, this sustained whining is possibly the single funniest thing I've seen on these boards in a long time. This team is in a groove rarely seen. Their Red Zone percentage for TDs, which is what you want when you get down there, is probably close to record breaking good (I'm not looking it up). You do whatever works. Period. If this means Manning throws all day, then so be it. You don't change what works in the NFL until somebody figures out how to stop it.I'm going back to ignoring this thread, and others like it now.
