Always Wave Goodbye (1 Viewer)

Woman took photograph of her parents as she left for 20+ years.

My grandparents lived in a lake house in the Poconos for the last 25 years of their lives (other than the winter, when they went down to Florida). Whenever any of us left, they'd stand on the porch waiving good bye and ringing a triangle dinner bell.

They'd ring the dang thing for like 5 minutes and we could hear it for like half a mile as we drove away down the winding dirt road out. Just one of those memories from childhood that you never forget. They've been gone for like 15 years now and my aunt and uncle sold the house back in 2022. I went up there one last time when they were moving out and took pictures of the property for a photo-collage I made for my dad and I. Just wish I had a picture of them on the porch playing the bell. Just wasn't something we thought to do when they were alive. (pre-cell phone camera era for the most part)

Man...I knew this was going to make me get watery-eyed but I clicked anyway.

We visit my parents frequently in the summer. They moved to be closer to us (still 2.5 hours, but not bad), and moved on the water and got a boat as a "bribe" to get us to come down more. It worked...but I'd be lying if it doesn't cross my mind every time we give hugs, say goodbye, and pile in the car to go home that it might be the last time we say goodbye in person. :crying: You don't know till it's actually too late.

my dad had to get up early to go in to work at the steel mill where he worked and i would stand in our very small homes overly large front window and he would use his left then right then left then right then left then right blinkers and so on all the way down the road as he drove away waiving at me with his blinkers as he went because he knew damned well i was standing there wishing he didnt have to go off to early every day hell i cant hardly even think about it to this day without getting choked up take that to the bank bromigos

When me and my fiancee moved from California to Texas back in '06, my Dad helped us load the U-Haul up and we said our goodbyes. He left, then we started our journey.. he ended up getting off the highway by our house and we could see that he'd pulled over and was waving goodbye to us from the overpass. I'll never forget it.

Can definitely identify with the last photo.

The title is reminding me of the Bon Jovi and Impossibles song “Never Say Goodbye.”

The story is touching. Sad to see the last frame.
