Schizophrenia - The experience is so real that many schizophrenics are convinced someone has implanted a broadcasting device in their bodies. Or they come to believe in a supernatural explanation for the strange sensation.

So is the Dr. schizophrenic? Or, is the boy?
Yeah, I wouldnt be surprised if the Dr is also crazy. Maybe this is dumb, but I dont mind ghosts in this show, but aliens I can do without.
When the alien stuff started, I'm like "crap, they just made this totally unbelievable like Indiana Jones 4." Then I remembered I'm watching a show about ghost. :bag:

 It had it's moments... but compared to last year I was slightly disappointed..

Had I not watched last season maybe I'd have enjoyed it more as last season set the bar extremely high...

Here's to hoping it get's better.

As someone who has spent years saying 'never again' after Nip Tuck and the Carver storyline, I know better trying to connect the dots to the Bloody Face persona or reasoning behind it. I didn't watch S1 at all- Cromwell is what brought me into S2, and will likely hold my interest as long as he doesn't disappear for episodes at a time.

Finally watched EP 1 last night. Not sure if this season will compare to last season (which I would grade a B-).

One of the things that "worked" last season was the setting. Although the house was creepy the family was as least under the delusion that it was "home".

Setting season 2 in the middle of an already scary-as-hell place might take away some of the scare factor.

after watching it last night, this is exactly where I'm at.

I am not yet buying the alien thing...My money is that it's Cthulhu.

Agreed. The LA house at least looked normal. The asylum is terrifying without anything supernatural or any bad guys. I've always been really uncomfortable with places like that and with people who are deformed (that girl with the flower freaked me out), damaged, or mentally ill. I'm sure the creators realize that many are like that, which is why they set the show there. I would've liked to ease into the characters of the doctor and Sister Jude a little bit instead of them seeming bat-#### crazy from the get-go. I hope the writers don't get too kitchen-sink trying to top last season (which already was close, close, close to going over the top).

i have a feeling the story will slow down a bit.. that season intro was perfect to set the tune to this season

I finally saw the first episode on my DVR, and my first impression is that this season is actually going to be BETTER than last season. there are a lot of moving parts, but I think it will all come together.

I'm in the camp that thinks the alien thing is all in his mind. the tracking bug confused that theory a bit, but I'm not ready to believe in aliens yet.

Jessica Lange is damn creepy.

Ok, it's driving me nuts. Who is the girl that was killed in 64? Miss Pizer? She was in something and I cant figure it out.

Watched both episodes tonight, Im digging it again. First episode introduced a lot of storylines naturally, but the 2nd episode began expanding nicely I thought.

James Cromwell as the sadistic doctor is absolutely perfect.

Help me out because I was falling asleep through much of it - the hooker that Cromwell was trying to "do things with" in the past (it was the past, correct?) looked liked the nun that had the fainting spell that goes out in the woods for him. Are they the same? Did I miss something?

different chicks

Definitely in the camp that liked last season better so far. Seems over the top although it could get better. With the chip (rememberr 1964), they seem to be confirming aliens and we just saw 100% confirmation on demonic possession with him telling the nun about her past which no one else would know. Last season at least seemed to have a solid story line through out the entire timeline. This one is just all over the place.

It almost seems like they are trying to make it a "who is bloody face" mystery and giving us many options. There is so much going on, I can't even recall if we actually saw Bloody Face in 1964 yet.

That said, pretty sure I will watch the whole season and an even better note is that even if this season isn't as good, they can make a 3rd season that is great. At least they will have more what not to do knowledge.

Regarding the photos that were in the room the hooker was changing in...were they all just other girls in different positions, or were the last few of mutilated bodies? It looked like they might had been...if that's the case- and they've shown Bloody Face as a tall man- that would suggest that Cromwell is Bloody Face. Which would then probably open up the crazy plot chest to all sorts of possibilities about Nazi experimentation for prolonging life, and put the Dr. in both the past and present timeline.

I didn't see S1, and my only past experience with the show creator is Nip/Tuck, so contrary to the AVClub reviewer, I don't think Murphy does a lot of redirection or red herrings, and the Doc could very well be what they're suggesting he could be, and I'd be fine with that. Crazy Cromwell being front and center for the majority of the season would guarantee I stick with it.

They showed Bloody Face killing the teacher.

So Kitt isnt Bloody Face then, right? Also I agree it seems to be too much stuff rolled into one this year. Last year was just ghosts. This year theres a serial killer, aliens, exorcisms, demons, and some kind of monsters that we havent seen yet.

IIRC, a lot of people early on last year were saying they thought there was too much going on as well, and that changed as they began to focus more on 1 storyline episode to episode. There were also plenty of people (many that probably didnt even finish the season) last year saying they thought the show was over the top and werent liking it and I think it really hit it's stride mid-season.

Yep! And it's all just a few pages back. Be patient people.

:goodposting: I wondered in my previous post (after ep 1) whether they'd go over the top. but now I recall thinking the same last year even though I enjoyed it (final ep left me cold, though). I was more comfortable with episode 2.2 than I was with 2.1, so I'm in for the whole ride. I have no idea where this is going (a good thing). Some of the dialogue is lame, but so was some of it last year (Dylan McDermott got most of the cheese, like when he vistited the burnt dude's apartment and sounded like Liam Neeson in "Taken"). Given the show's premise, some thoughts:Lange is perfect. Reminds me of Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in those psycho-biddy films of the 60s, but more subdued.Cromwell is walking a fine line between camp and creepy (him grabbing himself and the look on his face when the hooker is on the bed may be the single creepiest thing I've seen so far). Thank goodness they hired someone with at least a little finesse to play the part. Someone like Pacino, Nicholson, or DeNiro would've ruined it.Doesn't the younger nun look like Julia Duffy from "Newhart" in the 80s?The secondary actors - Kitt, the nympho, and the other young chick are very good. As is new-Spock.Sarah Paulson is the hottest "out" lesbian in Hollywood. And she's doing a damned fine acting job so far. No idea who Bloody Face may be.

People are seriously complaining about this show being 'over the top' or 'too much going on'? C'mon, the more crap they throw against the wall the better I say... Get Bigfoot up in there roaming the halls, Nessie swimming in the pond out back. I'm all for as much genre crap as possible on this show, do it up Cabin in the Woods style.

I agree.. but I think that was mainly because it was so different from anything else that had been on T.V. it was :mindblown: at the beginning.. But after watching last season I was prepared for it.. 2nd show was better than the first IMO.. But still needs work to approach last season..

Yeah, last season started a bit over the top, but if you think about it, it was basically one premise. The old doctor was so messed up, as was his wife and what happened with the kid, that it created a haunted house where anything that died on site came back as a ghost. The ghosts did some awful stuff, but this season we have aliens, serial killers, demonic possessions and "monsters" among other oddities.I have hopes that they focus a bit, but to say last season's over the top comes close to the over the top we have seen in the first two episodes is crazy.

Yes because this show is all about being subtle.

I think the new season is off to a great start.

Definitely the creepiest show on regular TV, both episodes had more scares in them than most recent "scary" movies have.

Hulu doesn't have the second season available online this season? I saw the 1st episode when it aired on TV, but have not been able to find either the 1st or 2nd episodes online. Anyone have a link?

Thanks!

Fun Fact: Lily Rabe, who plays Sister Eunice (she was also played the doctor's wife on season 1) is Jill Clayburgh's daughter.

AV Club does a good job recapping the eps. For me, the more insane they are, the better. I feel like last season fell off when things actually started to make sense.
