There are definitely drawbacks with using Facebook data for such an analysis but I thought there were some interesting findings.

Thanks for the post. I found this to be interesting despite, as you pointed out, the many drawbacks to using facebook data. I think it leaves out a large population of a certain age group which simply doesn't use facebook.

Thanks for the post. I found this to be interesting despite, as you pointed out, the many drawbacks to using facebook data. I think it leaves out a large population of a certain age group which simply doesn't use facebook.

That is probably the biggest flaw. There is actually a decent number of older Facebook users (55+) but the issue with them is they don't use the site in the same way as younger demographics. So while they may be big fans of a particular team, they won't necessarily "like" that team or showcase their fandom to Facebook's algorithms because they simply don't post statuses all that often or like the same volume of pages as younger users.

I definitely didn't intend to draw any truly meaningful conclusions from this, just really to share some interesting data and possibly get a laugh or two.
