I'm non ppr, but the waiver wire is so barren that a few speculative manoeuvres had to be made. Ellington is at least a real buy low just now.
Yea I like having him around for injuries/byes. Although, that's not why I took him in round 6.He's got a decent floor in PPR right now. Getting at least 7 a week is better than zero. Just have to wait for the inevitable CJ breakdown like said above and he could get some value back.
Wat? Chris Johnson is pretty much the most durable RB in NFL history. Literally, he NEVER gets hurt / misses time. He's got a decent floor in PPR right now. I think they're talking losing effectiveness with a heavy load as opposed to missing time.Wat? Chris Johnson is pretty much the most durable RB in NFL history. I hope so. It is inexplicable that Ellington isn't getting more use. I think it is especially hurting their passing game.
I'll be honest, I have all but completely forgotten about this guy. Chris Johnson is playing so solid for them and David Johnson is the threat to score on every play if he is ever needed.Any hope for Ellington, or just a handcuff at this point?
I don't think that's true. They've been willing to give him a full load in the past. Arians seems to just give jobs to the next man up and then stick with that man even when the incumbent returns. Ellington was going to get the main gig, but he got hurt week 1. Chris Johnson has done ok against defenses clearly fearing the pass more than the run so he's kept the job. Should he get hurt, Ellington would likely get his job back. Kind of like Michael Floyd/John Brown. Floyd was all set to be the WR2 but then got hurt so John Brown took the WR2 job and kept it until he got hurt. Then Floyd stepped in and Arians made a comment that Brown took Floyd's job while he was hurt and now Floyd's taken it back while Brown was hurt.I'll be honest, I have all but completely forgotten about this guy. Ellington certainly has his own level of talent but I get the sense the coaches simply don't think they can count on his health week in and week out. That's a huge time investment that can't be ignored.
Mostly agree. I am still holding now because I think he is the best handcuff left in football. That said, I do think Arizona is missing something from the passing game without Ellington and would not be surprised to see him get a few more touches later in the year when they get into must win games.I don't think that's true. I also think Arians has a preference for veterans.
In conclusion, Ellington is a high upside handcuff but nothing more.
I agree (not sure about the best, but he's up there due to situation). I thought Ellington was a very good value this year and had him as a target behind Ivory and Martin. Luckily didn't get him, but I still think he'll produce well if he gets a shot. I wasn't impressed with Chris Johnson last year so I'm pretty sure Ellington could do just as well, if not better, if given a shot. He seemed to get a lot of targets last year, but Arians isn't known for throwing to the RB a lot, so I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for Palmer throwing any RB very many passes while Fitz, Floyd, and Brown are healthy.Mostly agree. They should use him, but if you look at Arians' historical usage, last year was the anomaly. In Pit he didn't throw much to the RB and in Indy I think he only threw like 50 targets to the RBs. If he has receivers, he prefers to use them and he's got a lot of good ones here. I would not anticipate the RB targets to increase in the second half of the season. There have been 42 targets so far. I'd be surprised to see a strong deviation from that pattern.Ellington averaged more than 5 targets and nearly 4 receptions per game last season. He was a big part of the passing game last season. Non-existent most of this year which is shocking to me. He's a great receiver and dynamic in the open field. I have no idea why he isn't being used there this season.
If true then Ellington is nothing more than a potential handcuff for CJ owners. If the Cardinals won't use him in the passing game he won't have a role. That's an area where he can excel even if he isn't starting. They should use him, but if you look at Arians' historical usage, last year was the anomaly. I've had him for three years straight now and want to get rid of him. But I know the week I do, CJ will be the next guy to go down for the year.Having a hard time holding onto this guy when there are holes in the lineup that need to be filled.
This would be a drop that wouldn't feel good at all.
I doubt Ellington re-takes the starting role outside of a CJ injury, but maybe starts to take more touches. CJ seems to be slowing down from his great start, but he's still reliable and Arians seems to trust him. Plus, as long as the team is winning with the passing game, I doubt Arians changes up much.Ellington could be working his way back into the starting job...He's in right before the half.
Ellington has looked really solid when he's played and he isn't a rookie. I'm wondering if we could see him splitting or more in the stretch run. Johnson doesn't look anywhere as explosive.I doubt Ellington re-takes the starting role outside of a CJ injury, but maybe starts to take more touches. I wish they would IR him just so I can cleanly drop him. I've held onto him since his breakout two years ago caddying for Mendenhall and he just never fully delivered on his considerable promise due to injuries.
There's nothing worse than this. You need a lot of luck with stashes(in re-draft especially)Ugh, right when Johnson went down. Been holding onto him all season. Will have to throw in a waiver request on the other Johnson, but I'll probably lose out on someone with a higher priority. I had Johnson for a while too, but let him go weeks ago. Just another in a season of bad moves.
So true, just been a bad year it seems. My best team (10-2, should be 11-1 if not for a bad lineup decision) has lost so many guys from key guys like Smith Sr, Foster and Luck and has a 20 transaction limit (I'm already done for the year FML) with a small roster size, so when you make a bad stash and ignore a guy you would pick up in other leagues, it really hurts. Freaking Luck was supposed to be a set it and forget it at QB and I've had to work on QB weekly since his first injury. That alone has cost me the chance to stash other guys who I know would be assets right now. I have and started Ware but passed on West because Foster was still alive and Andrew Luck was still dinged. Sucks it's been bad timing. There's nothing worse than this. You need a lot of luck with stashes(in re-draft especially)Ugh, right when Johnson went down. Been holding onto him all season. same here man. Was preparing for the playoffs and had Ellington assuming CJohnson would get banged up, and of course he did. Probably won't be able to get David Johnson.Ugh, right when Johnson went down. Been holding onto him all season. Actually it was a play or two after.Nailed it.Should be good for a half..... .
Lol...I spoke a second too soon. I take this as good news.A little surprised there hasn't been more information on this injury.
Not even a sound bite from Arians.
I'm not fully convinced Ellington is out for this week until I hear more.
Not to downplay his current injury but last year's injury was quite different. Although it was the same foot it was a different part of the foot. Not sure I'd have a lot of confidence in Ellington even if he suits up on Sunday.
We've seen from last year how much his burst disappeared when he was dealing with his toe injury.
Credit goes to him for his toughness but he really struggled running the ball.
Looks like he will come back soon but will Johnson do enough to seize the job before he does? The Arizona Cardinals are trying to connect Ellington with a foot specialist in Los Angeles, coach Bruce Arians said Wednesday.
"We're going to try to get them hooked up," Arians said.
Ellington, who injured his left foot during Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers, could be back as early as next Thursday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, Arians added.
"Those things are touchy," the coach said.
Arians said he won't be overly cautious with Ellington's foot. Once Ellington's cleared to play, he'll be back on the field.
"It's going to be sore for the rest of the year," Arians said. "But not as bad as that foot last year."
This is exactly why I'm still holding onto Ellington. David Johnson has been really good with very limited touches but it seems like Arians is hesitant to unleash him - I think Ellington can be a fantasy starter IF he can get healthy soon.If Ellington were healthy I have little doubt he would be running as the starter with David Johnson 2nd in line. That's how Arians roles. He likes his veterans first.
I'm not so sure that Ellington would be given enough of a workload to be a viable RB plug-in. Even if he's not hobbled by his injuries, I don't think Arians trusts Ellington enough to stay healthy and would keep him in situational use. Arians also has to think longer-term for the playoffs. This is exactly why I'm still holding onto Ellington. That said, with only a few weeks left I definitely think you can ditch Ellington if you need to make a move. For me personally, I'm gonna need to see his usage for at least one week before I can start him. By the time he's healthy and you're comfortable rolling him out there, how many weeks are left?
Yes. Assuming week 14 is your look and see week, that leaves 15 and 16 for possibly rolling him out. For me he is RB depth that could come in handy on some RB thin teams that will be in the playoffs. These types of plays can be handy, just like Beanie Wells and Ryan Grant in 2012. They did basically nothing all year and then won championships. This is exactly why I'm still holding onto Ellington.
