Luck is in big trouble now as the team and a lot of the coaches are gone.

You would think that it would have to, although he had to realize that this was a possibility (Harbaugh leaving) when he publicly announced that he was staying.I know its desperation but do you think this makes Luck reevaluate his status now?Tell us more about Ryan MathewsLuck is in big trouble now as the team and a lot of the coaches are gone.![]()

Not at all, he had to know that this was a distinct possibility. Maybe he felt if he beat Harbaugh to the punch he could sway him to stay...I bashed Luck a little earlier but the kid is intelligent and he obviously wants to stay and earn an incredible degree from a high ranking university. I think in the end he will lose millions but that is based on there being a 2011 NFL season and Luck having a so so 2011 campaign in college. I'm sure people will not overlook what he did this year. Dan Marino had a great Junior year and a sub par Senior season and was almost glossed over in the 1st round of the NFL draft in 1983...ended up being taken at the 1.27 by of course the Miami Dolphins.I know its desperation but do you think this makes Luck reevaluate his status now?Tell us more about Ryan MathewsLuck is in big trouble now as the team and a lot of the coaches are gone.![]()

Or that SF tries to work some deal with the Panthers to trade the pick to them so they can get Luck?I know its desperation but do you think this makes Luck reevaluate his status now?Tell us more about Ryan MathewsLuck is in big trouble now as the team and a lot of the coaches are gone.![]()

I believe he talked to Luck yesterday and told him he was declining the Miami job and more than likely would come back. Then Luck made a quick decision. So lets look at the facts as they stand.1. Luck is unquestionably the #1 pick.2. His head coach is leaving and presumably taking the top 3 assistants3. His top 3 Offensive linemen are leaving4. He potentially would be playing 3 new offenses in 3 years. (counting his NFL rookie)5. He potentially could be leaving anywhere from 40-60 million on the table if this class gets grandfathered in. (something people are speculating)6. He could go to a good/great set up in Carolina with a above average running game and 2 bookend tackles. Something you never see with teams close to the top7. The only downside would be he potentially could not be playing ball next year due to a lock out but could still go to schoolSo really what am I missing here? He just loves the school experience that much? Something doesnt add up. I would feel better if he just came out and said he didnt want to play for the panthers. It would make more sense than what is going on.You would think that it would have to, although he had to realize that this was a possibility (Harbaugh leaving) when he publicly announced that he was staying.I know its desperation but do you think this makes Luck reevaluate his status now?Tell us more about Ryan MathewsLuck is in big trouble now as the team and a lot of the coaches are gone.![]()

what do you mean? Not literally of course but why do you say this?I know its a goofy radio show but Colin Cowherd seemed to think through talking to Harbough, Lucks dads comments and his "sources" that Harbough and Luck really want to go to the NFL together.Which makes it mindboggling that the panthers didnt at least interview him. There is zero chance Luck made his decision without knowing Harbaugh was leaving...
Luck obviously consulted with Harbaugh about his decision before he made it...there's no way Harbaugh told him he was staying while he was on his way to the airport to start his NFL interviews...college coaches have left kids at the altar before but that one would be beyond shady...Now I guess this could be a ploy by Harbaugh/Luck to end up together by scaring off the Panthers...that's something we have seen before with Elway and Eli but as of now the difference would be that Elway and Eli were both open about their intentions and as of now Luck appears to be staying at Stanford with no ulterior motive...what do you mean? Maybe when they consulted each other Harbough said he wasnt taking the Miami job and the San fran job didnt seem that attractive. This pretty much nails it.As for the conspiracy theorists, I'd suggest that you familiarize yourself with Luck's background. Draft pundits have been assuming for months that it was a foregone conclusion he would declare when all along there were huge red flags indicating that he would strongly consider returning to school. His decision to stay in school and his one sentence press release are totally consistent with the persona that he has shown over the past two years. So, as a Stanford alum and a person who lived in Houston, my view is clearly clouded by cardinal colored glasses.
Still, I am kind of surprised by how many people are going nuts in here.
Luck is 21 year old young man who has two years of eligibility left and has only been a two year starter. He isn't staying for a fifth year.
In 2009 he only completed 56% of his passes. While is unlikely to statistically improve on this year, he can still grow a lot physically, mentally, and as a QB.
I think in a year he will be bigger, stronger and better able to lead men. Even if he is terrible next year, do you really think Harbaugh passes on him in round 1. Do you think NE would? Luck is no Jake Locker, who was touted as a potential #1 pick based on potential, but not production. Luck has production and wins to go with his enormous potential. He will get picked high. No matter what happens, he will likely be poised to be financially set for life within 18 months.
Just look two examples of "should I stay or should I go" in the past two years- Sanchez and Bradford. Sanchez came out early, without a lot experience. He was drafted high, but many people are still concerned about his maturity and ability to lead. He gets fined in practice for poor body language. People talked about how much money Bradford threw away with his injury- yet he was still drafted first. People are raving about him, how he doesn't look like a rookie at all. He is likely offensive rookie of the year.
I think people should realize that Luck has made some decisions that many would consider questionable, but they have all worked out so far.
He was also one of the top HS quarterback prospects in the country. He could have gone almost anywhere and started right away. Instead, he went to Stanford- where the football team had won 5 games in the previous two years. Then he redshirted. He was seemingly making one poor football decision after another. But look where he is now.
Luck was a co-valedictorian in a graduating class of 500 at one of the better high schools in the country. He is now flourishing at Stanford. There is a very good chance he is much much smarter than anyone in this thread bashing him for his stupidity.
IMO I don't think Harbaugh going back to Stanford was ever in the mix...he was a goner...Maybe when they consulted each other Harbough said he wasnt taking the Miami job and the San fran job didnt seem that attractive. Then after some meditation he realizes that the San Fran job is actually a good one so he pulls the trigger.Plus note I believe this is allLuck obviously consulted with Harbaugh about his decision before he made it...there's no way Harbaugh told him he was staying while he was on his way to the airport to start his NFL interviews...college coaches have left kids at the altar before but that one would be beyond shady...Now I guess this could be a ploy by Harbaugh/Luck to end up together by scaring off the Panthers...that's something we have seen before with Elway and Eli but as of now the difference would be that Elway and Eli were both open about their intentions and as of now Luck appears to be staying at Stanford with no ulterior motive...what do you mean? If so, Harbaugh would have been deserving of the $8 million!I call a conspiracy....Luck says he is stayinprice of #1 pick dropsHarbaugh goes to SFSF calls CAR in a few days to....inquire2 days later SF owns the #1 pickWith the #1 pick in 2011 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selectAndrew Luck, QB Stanford

and I bid you adieuAndrew Luck-QB- Player Jan. 7 - 5:39 pm et Stanford QB Andrew Luck's father, Oliver, insisted Friday that his son will not reconsider the NFL despite the departure of Jim Harbaugh to San Francisco."Zero chance he will change his decision," said Oliver. The deadline for underclassmen to the declare is January 15, but apparently Luck has no reservations about his decision. He's losing three fifth-year senior starters on the offensive line. Hopefully, Luck stays healthy as a fourth-year junior.Source: Joe Schad on Twitter
Check out my Mayock on Pro Football Talk Live thread - he said he talked to Luck this summer and Luck went into the 2010 season geared to come back to Stanford in 2011. Much can change but it sounds like he's been leaning that way a long time.As for a trade between SF & CAR - it'd have to be a huge trade to move up based on how it usually goes AND I bet CAR wouldn't trade before Jan 15th - the last day Luck can declare. This pretty much nails it.

Could he change his mind? It's possible. There's a lot at stake and it would take a pretty strong mind not to waver one way or the other. However, I don't buy for a second that Harbaugh and Luck hatched some kind of sinister scheme to screw over the Panthers and become a package deal to San Francisco. That's a WWE storyline created by fans who can't understand Luck's decision because they either didn't take his persona at face value or didn't bother familiarizing themselves with his comments/personality/history before they assumed that he couldn't possibly wait another 12 months for his payday.
Agreed on both counts. There is absolutely no way Carolina deals this pick to SF of all teams before the 15th. To the extent that any non-logically-impossible event has a zero probability of occurring, this is it.As for a trade between SF & CAR - it'd have to be a huge trade to move up based on how it usually goes AND I bet CAR wouldn't trade before Jan 15th - the last day Luck can declare.Hard to imagine Luck making this decision without knowing Harbaugh was gone so him changing it, to me, would be a bit of a surprise, though not a shock.
Luck is in big trouble now as the team and a lot of the coaches are gone.
I don't know anyone who has covered Buf or Cinci. But I know for a fact Carolina cut a player based on his shoe size. And Buffalo or Cinci are that much better?Luck did the right thing. Carolina management is a joke and until that changes that organization is doomed.
I think I might sig that.Agreed on both counts. There is absolutely no way Carolina deals this pick to SF of all teams before the 15th. To the extent that any non-logically-impossible event has a zero probability of occurring, this is it.
maybe he just wants to avoid carolina that badly......he's got a better chance getting hurt in carolina next year rather than stanford.....or maybe he's not ready to be a pro yet and just wants to have fun for a little while longer.if i had to guess, he'll change his mind and strong arm his way out of carolina and somewhere else like eli did to get to ny.I just don't understand this, there's nowhere to go but down for him. I don't see the motivating factors to go back at all.
I don't know how smart people think he is but im pretty sure he is smarter then 99% of the people posting including myself.Honestly, If Andrew Luck doesn't come out this year then he is not as smart as people think.
Well I don't think how "smart" he is has the bearing on this issue you think. "Smart" people make the wrong decision all the time. I think that this is clearly the "wrong" decision, where wrong means that it has a higher chance of less desirable outcomes than the opposite decision (ie. to come out this year). But I also think Luck and his family are "smart" enough to know that this is the "wrong" decision but one that they want to make and are comfortable with. And yes, I know that's a dangling preposition and no Stanford student would write it.I don't know how smart people think he is but im pretty sure he is smarter then 99% of the people posting including myself.Honestly, If Andrew Luck doesn't come out this year then he is not as smart as people think.
I'm speculating but San Fran may have an easier time pulling a Ricky Williams deal in the draft than waiting until the supplemental. If Harbaugh wants his guy San Fran could sell the farm for him, I'm not sure what it would take but I don't think it's impossible. What do I have the feeling that Luck will enter the supplemental draft and only sign with San Fran?
