Week 7 Injury Thread (1 Viewer)

[Begin rant]Am I wrong to suggest that 98.6% of us recognize that our armchair diagnoses (i.e. "He definitely blew out his uvula!!") are virtually, almost literally, always wrong?

So, why do we always offer our diagnoses? Of course there are always Krumrie/Theisman situations, which are 100% clear, but the overwhelming majority don't warrant our armchair Doctorisms.

Is there any way to get us to stop that nonsense?

Can't we just stick to "Player X to the blue tent" and leave it at that?

Yes, I know I'm tilting at windmills, alarmist mentality rules the universe. All hail the Hypnotoad!
[/End rant]
Agree 100%. Should ban the words “looked bad” from these threads. Many people aren’t watching the games at the time and it causes unneeded anxiety until there is more clarity.
The entire point of the thread is to post what you see for people who aren't watching the specific game in question. I've had my rant about the thread expanding beyond its initial scope already a couple of weeks ago, but if you want people to not post what they see and wait for someone like Rapoport to post "Aiyuk torn ACL GG season" then lock up the threads entirely as they are completely redundant at that point

Gee, guess I shouldn't have stated the obvious that Aiyuk's injury looked really bad. I mean, his knee snapped sideways but hey, I'm not a human MRI machine so I should call it "a knee" like guys used to call injuries back in the day.

It was a knee. It looked bad. Really bad. I am a human MRI machine. I slept at some random hotel the other night.

What's wrong with:

"Knee, walked to the blue tent. Did not return."

"Knee, carted to the locker room."

?

I'll just go with "leg, return questionable" the next time I see someone's foot pointing the wrong way. Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or anything like that

I don’t know about banning words. I’m not in favor communism, but I think taken off on a cart, or couldn’t put weight on it, or he walked off under his own power, or limped off, all kind of speaks for itself.
I hear you but seems often that people say it looked bad and the guy is in the next series. Anyway not a hill I’m going to die on, so carry on.
Is it really that hard to recognize that this is just some guy's opinion based on what he saw? Either way, it's better than anything else if I am at some stupid pumpkin patch or something and I don't see my guy scoring on the ticker.

Honestly, if somebody posted something like "Player X to the blue tent" I absolutely would want something about why and whether it looked bad. Obviously I'm not going to then make a major decision based off of some guy's post or take it as gospel.

Unneeded anxiety? It's just fantasy football here guys...

Nothing.

But what's wrong with, "Watson down with a non-contact legal injury. Being carted off. I watched the play. It looks like his Achilles exploded all over his sock like Watson on a massage..."

Wait, never mind.

I completely understand that. However, I don't have enough knowledge to say every other injury looks bad, unless it was obvious gruesome, or they can't put any weight on it. To an untrained eye, if a guy walks off the field I'm hopeful it isn't bad and if it turns out to be a torn ACL like this one, then so be it. What gets comical (sort of) is when so many here say, "it looked bad" and it isn't. I believe laying out the specifics, like his leg, ankle, or knee bent awkwardly is great information to know and it's human nature to offer a possible armchair diagnosis from what we know from past injuries. Also helpful is whether he was carted from the field, helped from the field without putting pressure on it, or if he walked off the field under his own power. Just my opinion of course.

I guess I'm just good with all of it. Give me as much information as possible when I can't be watching myself.

I hear you - perhaps "unneeded anxiety" was a bit much and it's not exactly hard core life stuff. But considering how much time/energy many of us have spent here over the years, I'd say it's a bit more than just an oh well if your players get hurt.

I do think that some folks like to stir the pot a bit by being preliminarily overdramatic about injuries - maybe they're facing said injured player in a key matchup and that's their way of demonstrating vindication - don't know. Just keeping it factual helps rather than pretending to be Dr. Jesse Morse or Dr. David Chao.

At the end of the day though, it is what it is.

No need to be dramatic.

Because I actually saw it in a slow motion replay. Looked obvious it was a serious injury. Knees don't do that.

This happens far more often than anyone correctly diagnosing an injury.
I'll just continue posting until I say one looks bad and it actually isn't.
Or until I see a knee bend that way and someone isn't seriously injured.

That said, there probably are some folks in here who shouldn't post that kinda stuff, but I have no idea who those people are.

Fair enough. I wasn't calling anyone out specifically.

Not worth the trouble, but you can find them in previous injury threads if interested. Had me scared for my players a few times.

Horrible news about Aiyuk. I suppose my trade of Ollie Gordon and a 2025 1st for him and a 2nd in a DEVY league is looking bad right now. Get well soon. Probably not going to help fantasy teams until 2026.
