as I head to church, my prayers will be with the Reid family. As a father, he needs to know he's tried to everything in his power to help his kids...

from Profootballtalk:

Eagles G.M. Howie Roseman announced moments ago that Garrett Reid, the son of Eagles coach Andy Reid, was found dead at training camp on Sunday morning.

“He’s been strong for us, we’re going to be strong for him right now,” Roseman said.

The Lehigh University Chief of Police confirmed that Garrett Reid was found deceased in his dorm room at training camp, adding that at this point there is no evidence of foul play. A member of the coroner’s office said that an investigation is ongoing.

We extend our deepest condolences to Coach Reid, his family, the players, the coaches, and all members of the Eagles organization.

After just having a child myself, I cannot even imagine the thought of having to say god bye to someone you brought into this world.

Tough, this makes you realize football is not as important as most of us think it is.

RIP and God bless the Reid family.

terrible, was this the same son that had some issues a couple of yrs?
Yes. Actually, both of his sons have struggled with drugs and been in trouble with the law. I believe Garrett had the most problems though. Very sad. Drug abuse ends in grief and tragedy so often.

Just the worst possible kind of news. So sad. Thoughts & prayers to Reid Family. Perhaps Tony Dungy can call and offer support.

Sad story...Reid admitted years ago when his boys were getting into trouble that he was an absentee father who was never around when they boys were growing up. Reid was a husband and father to football and that took all of his time.

It makes you wonder if the stress and demands of being a NFL head coach is worth the price.

Makes me want to hug my own teenage sons
Please do, I gave my two sons.. 2 and 7 hugs this morning. As a Cowboys fan, I hate everything Eagles, but I wouldn't wish this horror on anyone. My thoughs and best wishes are with the Reid faimily first and foremost and to the whole Eagles organization.

Awful news. Its a shame too because Garrett seemed like he was turning it around. He was up at traing camp helping with the strength coaches. Wonder whta the cause of death was.

It is sort of a crapshoot...in some cases it might be. I am sure if you asked Andy now, his answer would be no. I grew up with a workaholic dad who wasn't ever around, I got in a fair amount of trouble, but never heroin. In hindsight, we are probably both lucky that nobody ever offered me hard drugs when I was a teen. In Reid's defense...I am sure drug overdoses hit all kinds of families...for my own kids, I am going to be that ##### parent who checks phones, locations, does room sweeps...it is best to nip this kind of stuff in the bud before it is too late. At some point, with AR's money...the kids should have been sent out to a high priced military academy, that may have quenched his appetite for hard drugs a little bit.

I was thinking the same thing. Grieve, bury him, then reflect on what lessons need to be learned going forward.

most likely Drug related. VERY sad. I could see this pulling the team closer together though. Eagles should definitely be contenders this year.

While we don't know any details, I find it hard to believe he could have hardcore drugs with him at training camp. I believed he was clean as well, and I'm sure he had people responsible for keeping him that way. Although understandable, please let's not assume it was drugs right away and let the facts come out.

Anyway thoughts and prayers to Andy and his family.

the "I'm sure he had people responsible for keeping him that way.." comment is incorrect in that that doesn't work like that...

Yeah, you never know, maybe he could have made a difference. But I know people that were around all the time for their kids, loved them, and sacrificed a whole whole lot and their kids still got tied up in drugs and ended up dead way too young. Maybe this would have been different, but once you start down the heroin road, it takes a miracle to not end sadly.

A very sad day for Eagles nation and a parent's worse nightmare. Thoughts and prayers out to the Reid family.

The kid was 29 and had a history of drug use, anyone that knows his history is immediately going to think drugs. Nobody is saying for a fact but seems silly to have a thread discussing his death yet not mention the first thing that comes to everyone's mind upon hearing the news.

my heart also goes out to the family and it is horrible. I wonder how he died and if it was any foul play. Only 29 and relatively good shape and no health problems it seems odd and weird to just die for no reason????? I would like to see more details

Another Cowboy fan chiming in here to offer prayers and support to Reid and his family today. Cannot even fathom the grief they are going through.

A suicide or foul play has been ruled out in the death of Garrett Reid, according to Lehigh University police.

History of heroin dependence. Not a reach here to speculate that it could be drug OD. Poor kid, either way. Really struggled.

I was just thinking that maybe he had a mentor or support with him to help keep him clean. Considering the resources I'm assuming Andy Reid would have at his disposal, its not a stretch to believe that, is it? Maybe you know more about it, care to share some insight instead of ...?

You guys realize that Andy Reid likely funded all of the heroin that this kid put in his body. Kid probably never worked a day in his life.

RIP Garrett Reid - really hate to see your journey here end this way.

Thoughts and prayers to Andy Reid and family.

You write truth GroveDiesel - anyone out there who may be under pressure to stick a needle in your arm/leg/under your toe nails - please STOP and consider if you want to be alive in a year.

I do have experience in this area, including being over 23 years clean and sober... what I mean is that an army can't keep someone sober if they choose not to be. Mentor, sponsor, hired guards, jail, even faced with the loss of all that is good in ones life... etc none of those things have that kind of power. That's the baffling nature of addiction/alcoholism. It's a tragedy and it sounds like alcohol and or drugs had its part, wether or not it was directly involved, but there may be other factors.

Y'all,

Horrible news here - let's please please be respectful of the family involved - they Do NOT need to see speculation about how this tragedy could have been avoided, or who may have been at fault.

Please please be respectful of the deceased and his family members in this time of awful pain and agony.

Sincerely,

Mark Wimer

Thoughts and prayers go out to Reid, his family, and Eagles nation. Tony Dungy had to deal with the loss of his son as he was trying to make it thru the playoffs and to a Super Bowl. Dungy lost in the playoffs but would come back and get his ring the following season.

Philly has been thru some big up and down swings the last couple of years, perhaps this is something the players will rally around during the season.

Looks like it was drugs. So sad. Statement from family:

On behalf of Tammy and our family, I would like to thank everybody for their tremendous support, love, kind words and prayers during this time of great sadness. Words cannot express our sense of loss.

We loved Garrett so much. He was a wonderful son and brother. He made us laugh, he was a pleasure to be around, he always had a smile on his face, and we will miss him dearly. We will never forget him, and we will remember him with love.

Garrett’s road through life was not always an easy one. He faced tremendous personal challenges with bravery and spirit. As a family, we stood by him and were inspired as he worked to overcome those challenges. Even though he lost the battle that has been ongoing for the last eight years, we will always remember him as a fighter who had a huge, loving heart.

I spoke with the team yesterday and thanked them for their thoughts and prayers. I asked them to continue with their preparations for the upcoming season until I am ready to rejoin the team.

It is in times like these that we lean on our faith, our family, our friends, and our Eagles family. We will do so in the difficult times ahead.

Thank you again for your continued support,

Andy Reid

Such a shame. As a father I hope and pray that I never experiance something like this, I can't imagine the pain Andy and family are going through.

Was it necessary for NFL network to send a reporter and camera crew to this funeral? Did they do this for Dungy's son? I understand how sports and sports news is reported today but it seems way to much like TMZ sports.
