I remember spending most of those cross-country (NY-SF) trips walking up and down the aisle with the kid. Got to the point where the FAs in the back got used to seeing me loop through- had a couple of them watch the kid for a split sec while I used the facilities (their offer- I would never ask). Never had to deal with an inconsolably crying kid- that would be brutal. Ours would fuss for a sec over something specific (hungry, wet, tired, whatever) until we did something to help. Our good friend and wonderful mother did a x-country with her kid crying almost the entire way... to the point where she started sobbing because nothing she was doing was helping. Of course there were people pissed at her and the kid (good reason) and others who were sympathetic/empathetic. hopefully yours sleeps well and has a good flight. gl!Yup this is our plan. I'm far more worried about the 5 and a half hours in between takeoff and descentgl. This is what I thought as well. Coincidentally I'm flying with my 11 month old for the first time tomorrow morning. Good info in here.IIRC, some lavs don't have them- but pretty sure all airplanes have at least some with changing tables. it's never been a problem for me.Well this changes my opinion a bit. Is there not a dedicated area to change the baby's diaper? Seems like the airline is just as much to blameThe woman looked at my friend and said there aren't any change tables in the bathroom. I seem to recall change tables in the bathrooms years ago.Seems pretty unsafe too. I assume the changing tables in the bathroom are a bit more sturdy than the back of seat tray tables.![]()
is the kid on the bottle? we were taught to make sure the kid was sucking on something for take-off and decent to avoid ear problems. has always worked for us (7 and 3yos) gets to be a problem sometimes on decent, when the plane starts and then circles for a while- kid would suck down a bottle and then we'd be stuck circling, them not wanting more bottle and now needing to get changed pdq.
eta: "descent" not "decent".At least now I know it's not appropriate to change his diaper in our seating area.
