Any experts on floor refinishing? (1 Viewer)

We had the solid walnut floors on the main level refinished last week. We interviewed several people, and ended up hiring my friend's company who has worked on high end houses since the 90s. They have a great reputation and excellent reviews.

They hand scraped the grooves in between the boards and my issue is that the grooves now are really deep in some places and almost non-existent elsewhere. How normal is this? The guy in charge of floors has the pics and is coming over to inspect on Wednesday.

Are those pics of the finished floors? Can you take a larger pic?

Here you go
Thanks.

Judging by those pics it looks to me like normal wood flooring. They may have hand scraped the grooves to get old poly out of there so the new stain/finish wouldn't build up there. So I would say it looks fine.

But I will also add: I believe the beauty of wood floors comes from the working of time and people living over those floors. The floors develop a character over time. All of the perfections and imperfections are part of the story of a wood floor. So for me, your floors look cool.

I know some folks like perfection everywhere - tight seams and perfect widths of boards and such. And I also don't know the conditions of the floors beforehand. It could be that you couldn't see those seams before because they were filled with the gunk of everyday life, or as I mentioned before - build up of poly or stain.

I'd move.

Thx. They're solid walnut Carlisle floors that were installed in 2006 and haven't been refinished since installation.

I'm with you on this, especially when it comes to a wood like walnut that has such a non-uniform grain pattern.
