Any Jersey Mike's fans? (4 Viewers)

Jersey mikes is alright, I eat there a few times a year.

They have less than a hundred locations but below is good.

I haven't eaten at below in a few years, but they are only in 4 states, barely qualifies as a chain.

My son is in Colorado Springs and he said Cheba is really good. Haven't had it yet.

I do like Jersey Mikes. Kid and I hit it up a few times a month. I miss Togo's though. Not Quiznos so much. Firehouse is decent as well.
We have a new place near work "Ike's Love & Sandwiches". A bit expensive but damn good.

Don't get the hate for Jimmy John's. I like their sliced wheat bread better than their rolls.

i think ike's is head and shoulders above everything else mentioned in here (aside from some independent delis)

Bread looks simiilar to what you'd find at Penn Station. Not sure how many know of that place. Mostly cheesesteak varieties with really good hand cut fries made to order. Used to be a really good sandwich, with parbaked bread finished to order. But size of the sandwiches and quantity of ingredients didn't match the increase in prices. Just not worth it anymore.

Quiznos did have a toasted sub that I really liked. Forget which one it's called. They all closed in my area years ago.
They're all toasted brohan, that's kind of their schtick
Ah. Since I haven't been in one in over ten years I forgot.

I do remember the "any coupon works" commercial with the hamsters (rats?) that aired when I was in college.

Coming from the Boston burbs where every town had 5 great sub shops to central Florida Jersey Mikes is the best of the bunch in a sandwich wasteland. For a chain they have a pretty decent steak & cheese
Still holds true for the Boston burbs.

We still have D'Angelos as our local chain, but not as many as there used to be.

We have all the major ones around us and I would say I prefer JM the best. Their shore points add up pretty quickly as we just had a free giant for lunch yesterday. Firehouse is probably my next choice but Cheba is a close call.

We just had a new place Sourdough and Co open a couple weeks ago. I was pretty impressed with their Italian sub as you get chunks of provolone on it vs slices. I will have to try it again to see if it can take over the #2 slot, They remind me a lot of Quiznos

I rarely eat sandwiches so I never really go to sandwich shops (i.e. bread is evil). What's the difference between Jersey Mikes and Jimmy Johns? Those seem to be the two biggest competitors to enter the market since the Subway/Schlotzkys/Blimpie days.

Jimmy Johns mostly just has cold cut type of meats but does have lettuce wraps you can get. Mikes does hot or cold along with a passable cheese-steak.

Makes sense, hence the NJ reference. Sounds like Jersey Mikes is the better option.

For taste, yes.

Jimmy John's is truly really fast though, cheaper priced, and seems to be reliable in its mediocrity across the country. And it's still much better than Subway. If I'm on a drive with my four kids and there's a Jimmy John's at a rest stop, it's a pretty convenient choice for efficiency, cost, and reliability.

JJ is like the Wendy's of chain sub stores. Fast, reasonably priced, and reliably mediocre.

Jersey Mikes is the best of the chain sandwich options around me. Adding the cherry pepper relish makes almost all of their cold sandwiches better. The club supreme with cherry pepper relish and chipotle mayo is my go-to if I'm not getting one of their philly-style sandwiches.

Also "Mike's Way" is always way to much oil.

I seem to like JJ better than most of you. Though I do like Jersey Mikes better. Fresh cut meat is better than meat that was cut a few hours ago.
I feel like Subway meat was delivered early this week at best. Subway is terrible.

Sorry but Wendy’s is ***. It’s more like the Quiznos of the sub world, or some other chain that has consistently gone downhill year after year

I didn't get that analogy either because imo Wendy's is straight basura :poop:.

How does Jersey Mikes hold up to Potbelly? That was probably the last sandwich chain I tried. Thought it was solid. Everything seemed fresh.

JM is better overall , but they are different . Potbelly very good but you’re limited to toasted subs

however, the only hot subs JM has are steak or chicken based (or mushrooms I guess)

So if I’m in the mood for a hot Italian I’m going potbelly, not sure I’ve ever had anything else from there

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think Wendy's is reliably mediocre (but fast and reasonably priced) and I'm stopping there over places like McDonald's, BK, Hardee's/Roy Rogers/Carl's Jr., Jack in the Box, etc. The burgers aren't bad, the spicy chicken is actually pretty good, the breakfasts are fine, and it's always fast and priced well (the $5 deal is actually quite a lot of food for the price).

My point was Jimmy John's is this version of the chain sub shop world where it's not great but fast and reliable and has its place. If you don't think Wendy's is the proper comparison for fast food burger places then insert whichever you think fits the description, but for me it's Wendy's.

FWIW I read an article recently that said you can ask Jersey Mike's to put one of their cold subs on the grill to warn/toast it. The article said it is franchise-dependent as to whether they will do it, and noted they probably would be less likely if very busy at the time. I haven't tried this, but I think this could be a big positive for some of their cold subs, which I already like in the first place.

My preferred response would be, "Well, look at this fuggin' guy. You hear this Joey? This mammalucco wants his cold cut warmed up. It says coooold in the title and he wants it warm. I oughta smack him upside the head with a semolina."

Jimmy Johns does their lettuce wraps really well 90% of the time. When I'm counting calories, it's my go-to fast food choice.

Subway somehow looks like they're doing exactly what Jimmy Johns does, but takes about 15 minutes per sandwich. There must be some magic going on at one of those places to speed up or slow down time. Before giving up on Subway, if I saw 2 people waiting to order I'd leave.

Our local "Jerry's Subs & Pizza" owner Jeff, dropped his franchise rights and rebranded as "Jeffery's" for a few years before closing down out of the blue recently and leaving a thinly veiled smarmy letter insinuating that the local residents didn't do their part to support his business despite him supporting the community.

I feel sorry for ol Jeff, but you just cant eat Steak n Cheese all the time. Once or twice a month, max.

Anyway, there's a Jersey Mikes near by but I just dont have the heart

As far as chains go, Penn Station is better than Jersey Mikes, but both are very good imo....

Tier 1:
Penn Station -anything you get here tastes good to me, their app is awesome too to cut the wait even though it is collecting my data (foil hat on)
Jersey Mikes -when I want a cold sub, you can't beat it, that relish though...amazing

Tier 2:
Firehouse -good, but have to be in the mood for it. A little on the sweet side for some of the meats for my liking.
Potbelly -good, but don't eat it much as the closest one to me is about 20-25 minutes away

Tier 3:
Publix -good for grocery store. Gets the job done in a pinch
Jimmie Johns -also has to be in the mood for this, the workers here always seem to ruin this experience for me

Tier 4:
Quiznos -is this place even open still? Haven't had it in a while, but thought I ate it recently in the Las Vegas airport, but maybe i'm wrong
Blimpie -is this place even open still? Been a while since I had this, but do rememeber not liking it much

Tier 5:
Subway -hard to screw up a cold cut, but I miss the $5 footlog days, that is when it made sense to go to Subway. Now I'd rather buy some lunch meat from a grocery store than eat here. I do like the workers here for the one that is close to my home. He pushes selling me a cookie any time i'm here which I don't particularly enjoy.

I had my first potbelly sandwich in 1995 when it was the original location on Lincoln Ave. in Chicago. They started off actually as furniture store who made sandwiches for their customers. Then the store became full time sandwiches for a number of years until someone made it into a chain/franchise.

I haven't heard of Penn Station before - quickly looked assuming they'd be NYC based, but nope. Penn = Pennsylvania in this case - Pittsburgh and branching out to VA, OH, and NC. I'll have to try them next time we're in Pittsburgh.

With that said, I'm good with this list mostly. Jersey Mikes is top billing that I've had. Cold subs are solid, hot subs are solid, bread is good, toppings are top-notch. My only complaint is our local one has some really odd business challenges. They'll occasionally run out of certain things, or the grill will be broken, etc. It happens more often than I think is normal. Besides that, it's great.

I will say I've never loved Jimmie Johns. Might even personally put it in Tier 4. Very bland IMO. Bread looks overly "manufactured," for lack of a better word.

Would have fought people to the death over Penn Station a few years ago. Like the rest of them, they've gone down hill when it comes to price value. Fries are still epic IMO, but pretty pricey for a sando/fries/drink combo these days.
