Winfield earns Pro Bowl invitationDecember 16th, 2008 – 1:56 PM by Chip Scoggins

Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield has finally made the Pro Bowl in his 10th season. Winfield, one of the most underrated corners in the league, learned the news Tuesday. The Pro Bowl teams will be announced later today and the Vikings are expected to be well represented.

The Vikings clearly are happy that Winfield has been rewarded for his stellar play this season. He has been overlooked for the honor in years past because, although he’s one of the top tackling corners in the league, he does not get a lot of interceptions.

Winfield has made several game-changing plays this season. Specifically, he had a sack/strip/recovery/touchdown return against Carolina. He also returned a blocked field goal for a TD against New Orleans Saints.

Check back in a little while to see all the Vikings who will be going to Hawaii.

YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just heard on KFAN. Besides Winfield, Kevin and Pat Williams, Steve Hutchenson and some guy named Adrian Peterson

Giants- guard Chris Snee, defensive end Justin Tuck, kicker John Carney, punter Jeff Feagles, quarterback Eli Manning, and center Shaun O’Hara.

First alternates are linebacker Antonio Pierce, tight end Kevin Boss, fullback Madison Hedgecock, and special teams player Chase Blackburn. Defensive tackle Fred Robbins is a second alternate, and left tackle David Diehl and running back Brandon Jacobs are third alternates.

I am going to throw up when Favre makes it and Cutler or Rivers get screwed. But whatever. The Pro Bowl voting is a joke every year.

No Jared Allen?
Yes. Just heard it again. additional Vikings. Jared Allen, Chad Greenway, Darren Sharper, and Ryan Longwell. No Matt Birk.
someones lying. No way does Sharper deserve it and a couple of posts above said Carney made it for Kicker.

Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield has finally made the Pro Bowl in his 10th season. Winfield, one of the most underrated corners in the league, learned the news Tuesday.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Winfield said. “One of the best days of my life.”

According to Winfield, the other Vikings named to the Pro Bowl are running back Adrian Peterson, guard Steve Hutchinson, defensive tackles Kevin and Pat Williams and defensive end Jared Allen.

Winfield got the news in a phone call this morning from Jared Allen, who actually used coach Brad Childress’ cell phone to call him.

“I’ve been in this league a long time and finally to get in is an unbelievable feeling,” Winfield told Judd at an autograph signing at Continental Diamond in St. Louis Park. “I worked so hard, finally to get there, is a relief and I feel overjoyed right now.”

Winfield said he is taking the entire secondary with him to Hawaii. The Vikings clearly are happy that Winfield has been rewarded too.

No Longwell,Greenway, or Sharper

:tumbleweed: that Revis made it. He deserved it.

Favre didn't deserve it over Rivers. Neither did Cutler.

Seven Pro Bowlers for the Jets. Glad to see Leon Washington made it, along with Mangold.

"Deserves" often has little to do with who makes the Pro Bowl.

josh cribbs should have made it over leon washington .

both had the same numbers pretty much on kr and pr. 1 td each. leon did have the edge slightly in yards for both catagories.

but, cribbs was down there on every kr/pr defensively makeing a tackle. you cant say that for leon.

Romo should have been in over Manning
I like Romo, but you can't be serious. Time missed due to injury and poor play during several games when playing make Romo a poor choice.

Ronnie Brown over MJD or Slaton :wall:
I'd probably give it to Brown over MJD. Their stats are fairly similar, but Brown's contribution in the Wildcat would give him the edge for me.But no way either of them should have made it over Slaton. Slaton has 1124 rushing yards (at 4.9 per clip!!!!), 305 receiving yards and 9 TDs.Those aren't just great numbers, those are easy ROY numbers any year where Matt Ryan isn't a rookie.

even with the games missed he's having the better season
I'll admit, looking up Romo's stats just now proved he has better numbers than I thought he did. However Eli's are just as good considering their sucess on the ground and lack of a need to throw as much as the Cowboys. IF Romo played well in the Pitt game and they won, I would say you had an argument, but his poor play was the main reason the Cowboys lost that huge game.

Romo's stats are way better than Eli's.

I don't think Eli deserves to be in the probowl, but he is having a very good year outside of the last two weeks. He also plays for a winning football team and is a big part of that winning formula. Not that it is an excuse but you have to look at his line up right now on offense and its a pretty average supporting cast at this stage. He has Hixon and Toomer as his starting WR's and D. Ward at tailback right now for the injured Jacobs....... He did have Burress for 9 games and that is when his numbers were very good. S. Smith is a very nice slot WR, and Boss is a descent option but this offense unit now without Burress is pretty average. It will continue to get better considering Boss, and Smith are second year players, but right now compare Eli's weapons to other top units out there and you have to admit its really average. So far 20 td's to 10 int's on a winning team and Eli making the probowl is not overly bad.
