Any Roethlisburger owners considering the bench here? (1 Viewer)

I'm probably rolling with Garrard this week over Ben (did that last week as well).
Exact same dilemma, likely going with Garrard as well.
Same here. We should feel real lucky that we got what we did from Garrard last week. REAL LUCKY! And now MSW is listed as doubtful. Garrard makes me nervous. I can see him putting up a 180 yard, 1 TD game this week. And I know that the Jets found some success passing against the Browns last week but look at the 2 previous weeks against Brady and Brees. I think I'm rolling with Roethlisberger this week.
Even if the Mike Thomas TD last week was a complete fluke, Garrard still threw for nearly 300 yards before that. Garrard is asked to do QB sneaks fairly often so there's also a good chance he gets a TD on the ground.I also consider the Brees game sort of a fluke...Another argument for Garrard is that Cleveland has a pretty good run defense so it's likely the Jaguars throw more than they run.
With MSW out and Nmandi inactive, I went with Big Ben. Glad I did!

Yep. Bad call. Although Matt Ryan had a good day, he scored half of what Ben did. You just never now.

Benched him but still won with Hill in there, won't over-analyze this one the rest of the year. Set it and forget it...

:goodposting: As long as Hines Ward can stay on the field, I totally agree. Wallace is becoming unstoppable.
yep. I benched him for Ryan and won, but it's All Ben All the Time from here on in. I have a feeling he will be a guy who leads many a team to a championship this year - especially in redraft, where you could get him in the mid-rounds because of the suspension.

Ben's been doing great but he makes me nervous. My problem is the cold weather games in weeks 14, 15, 16- these are usually not conducive to big numbers. Especially week 15- home against the Jets in what should be a pivotal matchup for the playoffs. With money on the line in your FF league, are you really willing to trust starting him in what could easily end up a 10-9 affair?

I hope I don't regret it, but for this very reason, I traded Ben away for Orton, who plays at Oakland in the nice weather in week 15. In week 16, Ben has a great matchup against Carolina at home, but I fear the Steelers may not even need to pass the ball much that game at all, and the weather could also be a factor. Orton has a home game week 16 and weather could be bad for that as well, but it's against Houston and their league worst secondary, so it was too juicy to turn down. I wouldn't underestimate the impact that the weather could have on Ben down the stretch.

Was lucky enough to reconsider benching him when Namdi was declared out. I'll be starting Ben most of the way, but he's not matchup proof yet. I'm sure I'll go with Ryan a game or 2.

thinking ahead.

Week 15 - jets

Week 16 - carolina

does that jet game worry anyone? should alternatives be consider?

I am going to play him from here on out.

Of course it depends on your other options, but for me its Ben or Eli. the giants offense has looked lost two weeks in a row, maybe because of Steve Smith being out, but the turnovers are killing me (also a bradshaw owner). At the least Ben is not a turnover machine and we know he can light it up any week. The oline being banged up kind of helps him. They are having trouble running the ball....

Jets game will be rough, at least its at home. (at home Wk14 -16)CAR and CIN might be nice games

On the plus side, some good games in Dec

503 yds 3TDs 12/20/09 (Wk15) in PIT

142 yds 3TDs 12/16/07 (Wk15) in PIT

bump for this week again..I just posted set it and forget it and FBG's has Shaun Hill at #7 and Ben at #16 this week. Someone talk me out of starting Hill again...

Once again, I think you have to face this dilemma. Just when we thought it was a set it and forget it, Ben goes bipolar again and throws up a no TD clunker last week.

Let's throw in the fact that he's got Baltimore, whom he's had 1 TD in 5 of his last 6 games against, and a broken foot.

Looks like it might be back to Matt Ryan.

Earlier in the week, when Big Ben's "broken" foot was breaking news, I added a third QB (Bradford) to go with Ben and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Roethlisburger's still my starter as of today but I might pull the trigger on giving the Rams' rookie the nod by game time.

:lmao:

(I need the win to lock up a first-round playoff bye, so I don't want to screw this up.)

I'm playing Bradford over him this week as well. There's no way you start Ben on the road against the Ravens with a broken foot.

Agreed. I've got Ben riding the pine this week. Cutler, for better or worse, will be my starting QB in a week that decides if I win my division and get a first round bye. Not stoked, but it could be worse.

Here we go again is right..I benched Hill last week and lost about 7 points. This week I have no Hill option, and in a league with no WW moves, I'm looking at starting Henne over Ben.

Balt + broken foot has me thinking it's another Mendenhall type game.

Wish I had a better option here..

oh yeah and I need to win to make the playoffs.

Starting Cutler over him in one league.

Thinking about trotting out Henne ahead of him in another, and in that one I need a win this week to make the playoffs.

I am sitting Ben for Orton. I have been playing musical chairs with these two for 6 weeks and have always picked the wrong guy. I just don't like Ben's matchup with a broken foot. I have already clinched plus a BYE in rd 1, so it's no biggie either way.

Starting Gerrard.

My team likely doesnt need a massive day like Ben is prone to have, just need to get some usable points and let the rest of my squad carry me into the playoffs.

His foot and the Ravens defense was enough for me to play the safe side fo the decision. I do think he is going to do statistically well so long as he finishes the game though.

I have one crappy team that has been eliminated from post-season for a couple weeks, but I am still playing to win games. Have Ben on the bench for Freeman vs Atlanta.

Starting Fitzpatrick with confidence . . .to those of you still playing Big Ben in those Baltimore winds - good luck . . .

Depends...

If I am close tonight I am going with Ben.

If I am down a lot I am going with Sanchez.

I am going to be going with Sanchez.

Most everyone in here has nice backup options. I see Ben's ceiling as about 200-250 yds and 1-2 TD's based on the weather, his foot, and the fact that they should rely on the run a lot in a low scoring matchup.

But my only other option is Henne. :X

Sure he had a nice game last week against the raiders, but is he gonna throw for 300 and 2TD's again?

Talk about lesser of two evils...anyone taking Henne over Ben?

So Ben played well considering matchup and injuries. What are your thoughts on this upcoming game at home with CIN? The foot problem looked to be a little overblown to me. He was moving around fairly well. I think hes a pretty strong play this week...

I sat him for Ryan and it turned out to be the right call albeit marginally in my league. He definitely got better as the game went along. He may have been playing a little tentatively at first. I give him props for toughness considering his foot injury and his nose having a bigger list to the left than the Titanic.I'm digging the Cincy matchup at home though. Even though Ryan plays Carolina, I could see them running the ball down their throats.Back on the wagon with Ben.

This is killing me... One week I play Fitzpatrick and the next week I play Roethlisberger. No matter what I do, I play the wrong one. I think Fitzpatrick has the better matchup when you look at what other decent QBs have put up against Cleveland. Roethlisberger is not leaving me confident here, considering what he put up the last time they played Cinci

Fitz could outscore Ben this week based on matchup but 2 things 1) Fitz lost two centers in the game @ MIN. So the starting center is going to be some scrub off the street 2) Cinci is just god awful . I like Ben to tear Cinci a new one. :goodposting:

Ok, so the blizzard could also cause problems in Pitt. So, does the weather + Ben's less than great history vs. Cin change your opinion? I am seriously thinking about starting Eli indoors @ Minn over him..

I saw the interview with Ben and they ask him if he had ever played with a face shield before and he said no but he would in practice leading up to the game, then he sort of mentioned how it was supposed to be raining and his concern for looking through a shield. He said he would grit it out regardless but still I have my concerns if he has limited visability because of rain on his face shield. Wouldnt they remove the shield if that were the case? Seems so. I am entertaining Kitna as an alternative if I bench Ben week 14.
