Any Roethlisburger owners considering the bench here? (1 Viewer)

Maybe they'll install a little windshield wiper on his facemask? Seriously I would expect them to remove the thing if he can't see out of it.

Was sticking with Ben. Thought I'd enjoy him ripping my bengals apart but the more I look at the forecast the worse it looks to me. Think I'm gonna roll with Schauby.

A little rough though as I've got Arian Foster. So I'll be rolling into Monday Night with my qb and rb1 going.

Garrard plays against Oakland, who is giving up the second most points to fantasy QB's this season.

Garrard has also been doing some great things and steady points since Week 8. I think he might do better than Big Ben the rest of the season.

The only QB Oakland has managed to keep under double digits was Hasselbeck. Even when whooping Denver Orton managed to get double digits.

On the other hand, Big Ben has always been up and down, he either wins it for you or kills you. The last time he played the Bengals this season he put up maybe 8 pts in my league.

Bengals let Brady, Freeman, Ryan, Fitzpatrick and Brees score double digit points on them

It is either a QB feast or famine with the Bengals this year. They held Flacco, Henne, Roethlisberger, Manning and Sanchez to less than 10 points. While QB feasts have been greater than 15pts. There is no trend just up and down up and down.

I think I'm going with Garrard.

So they're saying it's been raining all morning long and the field is going to be muddy and rough. We've seen Pittsburgh's field go to hell in a hurry in the past. Sprinkle in the fact that it's going to freeze and turn to snow.

Uggghhhh. This good matchup is getting pretty dicey.

Any reason to be concerned about Ben's matchup with the Jets this week, or full steam ahead? The weather looks cold but not terrible conditions.

He's back on the bench for me. I was fortunate to survive another ofer from him but I'm not leaving this week to chance. Matt Ryan, come on down, your'e the next contestant on the QB carousel.

He is averaging about 12 points/week over the last 3 weeks in my league. Don't think I can start him against the Jets with any confidence.

At this point, it seems like everything is catching up to the passing game for the Steelers...visor, no visor, foot, broken nose, beat up oline, WR consistency, poor matchups, etc.I would start most other QBs over him right now.

I'm rolling w/ BigBen over Fitzpatrick. They've been equally mediocre the last few weeks and the Phins pass D is better on paper than the Jets so far this season.

However, the ankle makes me a bit nervous, especially w/ how much NYJ blitzes... so if Aaron Rodgers is out (the only QB my opponent has) I might start Fitzpatrick... but I'll prob swing for the fences w/ Ben regardless.

If you've made it this far with Ben, consider yourselves lucky to have a good surrounding cast or a fine backup QB. Ty Mr. Matt Ryan and your 3 TDs last week.

Now, Ben gets Carolina at home. Initially you say sweet matchup, right? However, Carolina is surprisingly not all that bad against the pass (9th). Just a few weeks back ATL played Carolina and Matt Ryan could have been my play and I decided to bench him figuring that ATL would run it down their throats and play it conservative knowing they were the better team. That's exactly what happened and ATL still won going away with Ryan with a very modest 227 yards and a TD.

Those same circumstances could play out here. Or Pitt might unleash the dogs and go after them fast and furious to put them away early. Ben has only thrown 2 TDs in the last four games so they might try to fix some of those ailments in the passing game this week to get primed for a playoff run.

Thoughts?

Steelers should try to destroy the panthers early. Fired up defense, go deep to Wallace, maybe a gimmick play(s). Get a 3 score lead and then unleash hell on Clausen.

Weather could factor in, its cold here, lite snow almost every day, some wind.

I have Ben, Eli and put a bid in for Tebow. I got Ben in for now, I think over 250 and at least 2 TDs for him.

i'm scared s---less to start ben and/or pick up tebow/garrard. i think i'm sticking with ben. i like the comments about working on the passing game to prime for the playoffs. from a team perspective, they need to get that going. hopefully some homers can help us with this during the week

I guess I should add that Heath Miller has been cleared to play on Thursday night. Although he hasn't been a big factor this year, it could provide the security of familiarity both as a blocker and pass catcher for Ben.

Ben is glued to my bench right now, and I'm not changing that.

If the Steelers are going to do anything to get primed for a playoff run, it's going to be to pound the rock as much as possible and re-establish themselves as a hard-nosed running team. The O line has been a sieve and - particularly on a short week, when your gameplanning is limited - I think Pittsburgh would be thrilled to run the ball 40 times, grind out a 20-3 win, spare Ben from taking any more big hits, and ease him into 10 days of rest before their next game.

2 TDs over the last 4 weeks is not getting it done

The Steelers are not going to win the Super Bowl by running it 40 times/game. They will go as far as Ben will take them. They use the run to set up the pass. I benched Ben last week for Collins but I'm starting him this week. I see a big game on the horizon. The Panthers are a lesser team. The Raiders have a good pass D as well and Ben torched them. I see the same type of game this week. The great run Ds hurt the Steelers passing game. Ben doesn't have time. The Steelers do not run the "west coast" offense. I wish they would sometimes, but we get yards when Ben makes things happen.

I think I'm starting Big Ben (over Cutler and Collins) here as long as the weather isn't too bad. The Panthers may be 9th against the pass... but it's not like teams have needed to throw much against them either (especially in the second half). Big Ben is due for a big game... hopefully this is it.

You make some real valid points but I do think this team goes as far as Ben takes them as another poster pointed out. The more comfortable he gets back there, the better off they are going to be in the long run. They might not chuck it 30+ times, but I do see them being more offensively efficient in this game which will translate into good #s.If the weather permits, I see 250 & 2-3 TDs.31-10 Steelers.

Going w/ Fitzpatrick over BigBen for the title. I know the Bills will have to throw to keep up w/ NE and the Pats have given up plenty of yds and TDs. Although I do have Stevie Johnson too and would like to diversify my scoring interests. I gotta shoot for the moon though.

Well this article isn't making me feel any better about playing him this week:

Weather Update: As of early Wednesday morning, the Heinz Field forecast called for temperatures in the 20-30 degree range, a 30 percent chance of snow, and relatively mild 10-15 MPH winds. The elements should not affect fantasy production on Thursday night.

The Steelers have clinched a playoff spot based on strength of victory, but have plenty to play for with the AFC North and seeding still in doubt. Only three teams have more rushing attempts against than Carolina, indicating that offensive coordinators' game plans are run-first more often than not when facing the Panthers. It's good news on a short week that Rashard Mendenhall saw "only" 17 carries last Sunday, because he's likely headed for one of his bigger workloads of the season. The Panthers have also allowed the most rushing touchdowns in the NFC. ... John Fox's team has permitted the third most yards in the league to tight ends, but here's to hoping you can do better than Heath Miller. Returning from a two-week concussion, the Steelers' tight end is averaging under three catches for 32 yards a game in 12 appearances. He's only scored once.

The premier fantasy play in Pittsburgh's passing game is Mike Wallace, who's on pace for nearly 1,250 yards and ten TDs. Though Wallace moves all around the formation, he's likely to match up most often with RCB/slot corner Richard Marshall. Marshall has been the Panthers' weakest corner this season, allowing a whopping 75.3 percent of passes into his coverage to be complete per Pro Football Focus. ... Emmanuel Sanders capitalized with Darrelle Revis shutting down Hines Ward last week, posting career highs in catches (7) and yards (78). Revis isn't a Panther, so Sanders won't have as many opportunities this week. ... Ward is 41st among receivers in fantasy points, and the Panthers rank eighth against the pass. He's barely a WR3. ... Though Ben Roethlisberger has a relatively tough matchup, he's never a bad play in prime time. Big Ben would instill more confidence if he had more than two touchdown passes in his last four games.

Pittsburgh hasn't allowed a touchdown to a running back since Week 9, and only one tailback has scored on them since Week 4. Just three backs have found pay dirt against the Steelers all year, with two of them coming from a yard out. Also permitting a league-low 3.02 yards per carry, **** LeBeau's defense will make it awfully difficult for Jonathan Stewart to continue his late-season surge. ... Averaging 8.3 touches for 47.7 total yards in his last three games, third-down back/kick returner Mike Goodson certainly isn't a fantasy option against the No. 1 run defense in football.

Jimmy Clausen is coming off his best game of the year, a turnover-free effort in which he posted a season-high 7.42 YPA and "improved" his TD-to-INT ratio to 2:7. It obviously wasn't enough for his receivers to emerge from their season-long slumber. Steve Smith refused to fight for a pair of touchdown chances in the end zone, and Carolina's top receiver on the day was Brandon LaFell (33 yards, three catches). While Clausen is likely to attempt more passes Thursday than he did against Arizona -- theoretically leading to more yards -- the Panthers' wideout corps has been hands-off from a fantasy perspective all year. They're not to be touched in championship week.

Since this turned into a veild WDIS thread, how do you guys feel about Eli over Ben?

I do feel more confident in Ben seeing some Steeler homers endorsing him this week.

Ben seems fairly high in the FBG rankings this week. Much higher than Fitzpatrick who I'm gonna start over him.

I can see him going off like he did in the Raider game... but every indicator is pointing against it. Unless having Troy out allows Carolina to score enough for them to have to throw.

I see ben floor around 15 points. Sure Tebow, Rex, Kitna may easily surpass that total, but there floor is much lower. If you are looking for a home run QB, Ben is not it. But if you want stable, risk free 15 points..........ben is your guy.

If I was a Ben owner, what I'd be encouraged by was that the Steelers offensive line looked as good as they have all season against the Jets. I was actually surprised by how well they were firing off the ball as well as the job they did in pass pro. They had a couple of breakdowns against the blitz, but you'll have that against a Rex Ryan defense. Overall, if they play like that tonight and give Ben pockets to work with, he could have a big game.

:hot:

I was looking for upside and thought about Grossman or Tebow but decided to play the safer bet in Big Ben.

Sticking with Matt Ryan in what should be a pedal to the floor affair for 60 minutes.

Doesn't mean I don't have reservations against benching Ben in this match up though. I do think the problem you have with Ben is the fact that if this game gets a decent first half spread, Pitt will take the foot off the pedal and coast to preserve their QB somewhere around the 7 min. mark of the 3rd which in fantasy is an eternity of wasted point potential.

:goodposting: My opponent has Vick so I'm looking for a home run, especially since the rest of the teams seem fairly even. Going with Tebow.

Yes I am going out on a limb this week and I am going to bench Roethlisberger in my championship game....for someone named Michael Vick.

Trust me........... :goodposting: The Steelers want to get Ben cranked up for the playoffs. They might be able to run all over the Panthers but I think at least for 3 quarters, you are going to see a lot of passing. Arians was taped in the local radio that they are going to go a lot of no-huddle tonight. I see 300 yards with 3-4 TDs. They aren't going to win the Super Bowl without Ben having full confidence in his young (other than Ward) receiving crew.
