Last night Gold Standard came out--running about $500 a box and you get seven cards. I did a two box break and got a Justin Simmons auto that is really sweet. However, there is no way this product is priced right. I have watched multiple breaks and I haven't seen one box justify the price. One of the boxes in the break last night had a Fletcher Cox auto, a Steve Largent patch and some rookie auto I haven't heard of.

ive added a bunch of big cards to my PC over the past year and been buying and selling off target to flip and level up some other cards.  
 

ive been sending in cards to SGC to get graded $30 and you have your cards back in 14-20 days.  

 
Found football cards at Walmart for the first time in forever. Got a Donruss Elite blaster and almost instantly had buyer’s remorse. Blaster prices got raised to $27.50 and apparently Panini removed the guaranteed auto/mem card from Elite this year.  :lol:  I guess that’s why I was able to find it on the shelf.

Got a Prestige mega — 1 guaranteed auto probably makes the megas a little better than the blasters. Thought about canceling and getting a Prizm Draft Picks mega instead, but it was too late. Oh well.

In-store, people are reporting Select football megas at Walgreens and lots of Prizm basketball hangers at Wal-Mart this week. Might be worth a look.

I ended up getting the Tim Anderson Relic /25. It's the most I have ever paid for a card ($399) but damn, that was such a cool night and for TA to walk it off like that? I had to pull the trigger.

I’ve been quietly picking up Anderson.  He’s one on the hobby’s big secrets.  
 

The next big Now card to get will be Cabrera’s 500th HR.  I’m sure there will be auto and memorabilia cards also.

Only at Walmart. Seen the same blaster pictures at $19.95 elsewhere. Walmart going to Walmart. 

 
ALMOST got some Select NBA from Target this AM :sad: Had it in my cart then it said "removed because this item is no longer available." On the listings page, it actually went back and forth for a few minutes between Add to Cart and Sold Out. I guess maybe people were fighting over the last few available. 

I did pick up a couple NFL Prestige megas, one for my son for Xmas and one for myself. They still have those in stock if anyone is in the market.

The bots are running wild again — through some mechanism I don’t fully understand, they were able to start checking out 10-15 seconds before the rest of us. Also doesn’t help that Target increased the item limits from 3 to 5. I got lucky and landed 5 blasters but wasn’t fast enough to get any megas.

Now I’m just hoping they get here safe and sound — last week I got a Prestige mega and the shipping box got mauled in transit again. It was a fairly big box and there was only 1 mega inside, so thankfully the actual product was able to avoid damage. Makes me worried about this 5-blaster shipment though.

 
Pardon my ignorance, but does anyone have a good guide on sports card collecting in 2021?  

Are you in it for making a profit or is it mainly fun to collect?

I used to have a lot of cards, but never really understood the financials of what made one Michael Jordan card worth 2,000$ and another Michael Jordan card worth 2$.

The more I thought I knew about it, I realize I know little now.  It’s a flippers market now.  As a set collector, I am looked down upon.  I read the Blowout Cards forum and realize how different everything is now.

WSJ reporting that Fanatics is taking over basketball as well, having struck deals with the NBA and its player association. They also have a deal with the NFLPA but not with the NFL yet—I assume that’s to come. Massive.

Weird drop this morning. 24k Select basketball blasters and bots ate them all. I maybe saw one person get them manually. Next came 60k Select megas, and everyone was hit with high traffic errors so they actually stayed in stock for a few minutes. I thought I was out of luck but finally got an order through right before they went out of stock. Looks like nearly 80k Topps Chrome blasters were dropped this morning so they might be in stock a while.

where do you get the numbers of what's dropped?

I had 2 select Megas in my cart this am, then poof, gone. :sadbanana:  saw on Twitter there were also some Prizm NBA this am but I didn't even see those

I'm in a free cook group on Discord, and a few guys in there are also in bot groups that have access to backend info. Used to be that you could find the stock numbers with retail monitors but Target reconfigured something to make that impossible. With the Select megas I had problems with my cart being emptied too -- I got several out of stock errors but was able to go right back and add them to my cart again. Unlike any drop I've seen before. 

The Prizm mega stock was absurdly small and I figured the cello box drop would be similar, so I didn't bother trying for those. Turns out there were nearly 7,000 cello boxes, and quite a few manual users got some.  :doh: Oh well.

Finally got my red card figured out.  Hoping to land some nba prizm this month as that's the only one that's eluded me as far as sealed product goes.

Nice. I need to get up a little earlier. :lol:   I saw there were some 2020 NFL fat packs set for In-store only, but none anywhere near me. 

 
So it seems Target is basically randomly dropping cards on any weekday now. On the west coast, its a bit tough, but now that I'm getting up much earlier for my job, I guess I'll start trying this method. Seems a never ending list of obstacles keeping normal folk from getting even basic stuff.

It's a grind. I don't bother getting up on Mondays, but they really like to drop between Tuesday and Thursday. 6 of the last 8 drops have been on Wednesday: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1arab-D12ETv7-323v-VTneVSffKqjzmaUzZ7oRvp3mI/edit?usp=sharing

There was at least a mini-drop this morning. I saw Topps Chrome show up for one refresh, then it was gone. :lol:   I'm hoping my first score will be when they release Optic BB or Select FB.

I'm really looking forward to Optic BB, praying that the stock quantities are big. :lol:  For high-demand products, it seems like any stock smaller than 40k has become really hard for manual users to hit. Bots gamed the RedCard Exclusive system so badly that Target gave up on it. It's a constant cat and mouse game, and the big companies are almost always a step behind the smaller and more flexible bot developers.

Thanks for the insight! Same here. Optic Hobby at $850 today sold out in like 4 minutes on Panini I think. I''m just getting back into...again. Had the wedding in September so I took off all of the year w cards until now haha. Good to know there was at least some Donruss blasters initially. Saw the Topps Chrome restock (follow @targetrestock on twitter) but I don't care for baseball. Lets grind it out together!

Twitter bots and in-stock alerts from the store are pretty slow and sometimes don’t even catch the hot products that go in and out of stock in 10 seconds. A lot of Discord groups have retail monitors that can ping you the instant a product goes live. Still no guarantee you hit anything — the vast majority of people in my group missed out on Donruss this week — but it can increase your odds. If you’re interested, I can probably get you (and any other interested readers here) an invite to the group I’m in.

 
Watched a 2019 Museum Soccer break last night on the whatnot app.   

3 spot hit draft @ $220/spot.  

one guy had two of the three spots and won the top two.  

two best cards in the box was a weston mckinnie 1/1 tri patch, and a haaland jumbo rpa /50.

that's somewhere between $5k - $7k in cards he won for $440.

I’ve gotten my boys (9 and 5) interested in baseball cards. I used to collect in late 80’s-early 90’s and things are totally different, which I’m getting up to speed on.

We’ve purchased topps update series jumbo hobby boxes - my issue is, I have no idea if I’m paying appropriate prices. I’ve purchased in person at card shops.

Is there a reputable place to buy online, so I can at least sense check what I’m paying at shops? TIA

When I am buying something in person at either a show or Local Card Shop or retail, I will at least do an eBay search of the product and see what the Buy It Now prices are to see if they are in the ballpark. You are going to pay more at the LCS, but if it's not a ton, probably worth it.

Check sold comps.  You can do that on a website like 130point.com.  They have a “search eBay sales” function—where you can look at the prices that sold items have went for—including “best offer” prices.  I’d be wary of buying wax online because of not knowing the origin of wax is, and if they searched/weighed it.  

 
The good news is the market is softening ( unless you’re a flipper).  Not a bad time to keep your powder dry on new stuff as the price will drop more.
