Anyone live near Lake Tahoe? Thinking of relocating there (1 Viewer)

Do you have a job lined up? What kind of work do you do?
I lived in South Lake Tahoe for a couple of years when I was in my late teens. I loved everything about Tahoe. Winter & Summer especially. The only problem was jobs are tough to come by, and they generally don't pay well. To find any kind of decent paying job in my field (accounting) I had to move back to the SF Bay Area. We visit Tahoe at least every couple of years.
South Lake Tahoe is the most populated city around the lake. The north shore is much less crowded; the east side (Nevada) is nice but there are almost no businesses or jobs.
If you have specific questions, I will try to answer them to the best of my recollection.

We're in Carson City, about 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe. There are some jobs available depending on what your skills are. Most good paying jobs are getting about 200 people applying for 1 position. It's a pretty tough market. If you can line up a job before you move, you will save yourself a lot of grief. The housing market is starting to come back, but housing is still fairly reasonable. Reno might be a better bet with the number of jobs open up there.

I spend a good chunk of my summer in the Northlake area in Incline Village, NV. Great place to live. If you have a job where you can work from home this would be an ideal community to raise a kid. The schools in Incline are great and the perks of being a resident are fantastic.

Seems like a nice place. Just poking around initially. I have multiple bachelor's degrees and I am running my own real estate company now. Just a house flipper which I can do anywhere but I thought of perhaps looking into a contractor's license in CA or NV and see what I could like up. Just seems like this place is where I live (Upper Michigan) on steroids. Same atmosphere, less Walmartians, and way way better entertainment options for the family. Truckee was the town that got me interested in the area. Anyone know what that area is like. Housing doesn't look too bad.

What would a good snapshot of the seasonal weather look like? Are winters brutal or more mild? Is the summer hot and muggy? I read no poisonous snakes so there's that.
