Anyone starting Drew Stanton? (1 Viewer)

Anyone starting Drew Stanton this week?

With weather issues for Cutler and Fitzpatrick, it's looking like I might have to. This week's matchup is at home, in the dome, against GB. While it isn't the greatest passing matchup, it seems like DET will get behind and fall back on some sort of spread and Stanton's fantasy output could turn out pretty good. Since Stanton ran a spread-like offense at Michigan St he seems pretty comfortable in what Detroit's having him do. His weapons aren't bad either, Megatron always seems to have a good game against the Pack and Best is looking a tad bit healthier.

Stanton's last 2 starts came against pretty good defenses and he fared pretty well.

@NYG:

19-32 222yds TD INT

5-30 rush

v CHI:

16-24 124 TD

5-12 rush TD

What say you? If so, who are you starting him over?

NYG wasnt even a start, he only played a half or so.if you rank QBs strictly by upside this week, Stanton has to be top 15

I watched the entire Detroit game last week and I have to say I was mildly impressed with Stanton. That may be partly due to the fact I came into that game with a preconceived notion that he would do God awful. The game plan was half way decent, he tried to stay within that game plan and didn't make that big mistake I thought for sure he was going to make.

Stanton is capable of scrambling, so even though he only had so many yards last week on the ground, he's capable of getting you a few more on his feet. I will say I was not satisfied with the amount of targets Calvin Johnson had, especially in the 2nd half. Calvin Johnson should be TOUCHING the ball 8 to 12 times a game. Last week he had just 3 catches, 1 a spectacular effort on a crossing type pattern from left to right where Johnson caught it about 18 yards down field and turned it into a 46 yard TD after breaking several tackles along the way.

Stanton HAS to do a better job of getting him the ball. You'd hope the coaches would emphasize that thoughout the week. Green Bay is going to score, Detroit will have to score along with them IF the game is going to be competitive. You would think that Detroit would have to move it by air. Pettigrew will get a piece of that, Best will get some on screens, Burleson maybe 40 yards but Calvin is the key. If he can get the ball and bust a long one, this will obviously boost Stanton's numbers big time.

If you knew before the game that Calvin is going to have 61 yards and no TD's, more than likely Stanton's numbers will be way outside QB1 numbers and bottom rung QB2 numbers for the week. Calvin needs 100 plus and a TD.

Waiting to see the definite weather forecast for Buffalo first. If it looks terrible, I will be starting Stanton over Fitz.

Green Bay is awfully tough on opposing QBs but here are a few things I'm chewing on:

- Much of Green Bay's effectiveness is predicated on pressure and sacks. It seems logical that mobile QB's stand to perform a bit better. Vick and McNabb were able to put up decent numbers. Stanton is very mobile and has stated he plans to use his running ability more this week.

- Green Bay will score plenty opening up the possibility of garbage points.

- This is the lull before the proverbial storm for Green Bay. They must view this as a gimmee game but lying in wait next week is none other than New England with the Giants and Bears coming weeks 16 and 17. It could be a possible trap game for Green Bay.

- This game carries one of the higher lines this week at roughly 47 and Green Bay favored by 7. That leaves 20 points for Detroit.

- Megatron is historically strong against Green Bay and All-Pro corner Charles Woodson is a bit gimpy this week. CJ put up 11/86/2 against GB in the 1st game. What's good for CJ is good for Stanton. Stanton was awful against Green Bay last year but CJ didn't play.

The only thing holding me back here is Green Bay really needs a win here. As noted before, their schedule is very tough the last 3 weeks. They may view this as a must win as they are in a very crowded playoff picture.

Tramon Williams seems more likely to cover Megatron.

I read somewhere today that Woodson will be covering the slot receiver which is Burelson, so Williams and one of the Safeties are likely to cover Calvin.

Whats the deal with Tramon? I know he just signed a big extension and is playing well but I don't know much about him. Looked him up and he went undrafted, is he legit? Have the talent to keep Megatron in check?

Stanton looks like a decent play with upside. The Lions game plan creates big fantasy value for QBs and Drew can rack up 20-40 yards on the ground, equal to another passing TD in some leagues.

Would you start him over Eli? Eli has not played well against MIN historically. And it seems they are back to running 60% of the time. Stanton will be throwing all day, and has alot of weapons. He'll get points for rushing as well, but again it is the playoffs. Really hard to start a 3rd string QB.

No way, I wouldn't. I wouldn't start him over Palmer either as mentioned above.Anything is possible, he could score more than Eli and Palmer, it's fantasy but I wouldn't bench those guys in favor of Stanton.I was impressed to some degree at Stanton, that's because I was expecting epic failure. However, the passing game to me was still somehow limited. There were not nearly enough attempts to Calvin. There were a lot of little screens to Pettigrew and some quick passes to Burelson. I can remember 1 deep type throw towards Calvin and it was underthrown by 10 yards.I'm starting Calvin in 3 leagues today, obviously these are important weeks but I still am not liking Stanton as the QB. I've been wrong before on a player so I'm just hoping I'm wrong on Stanton. And not that anyone is saying Stanton is the next this or that at this point, but I'm expecting epic failure from this guy. So if he's able to play within the offense like he did last week, he's playing better than I thought he would. So no, I would not bench Eli Manning, I would not bench Carson Palmer over this guy. Those guys at least have put up solid fantasy numbers at some point this season, you can't say that about this guy. If there was a button to press and if someone asked me would I take 80 yards and a TD for Calvin today, I'd push that button in a heartbeat as I don't see Calvin as a multiple TD threat like he has been in past games with Stafford and Hill.

I don't see how you can sit Eli Manning for the Detroit Lions third string QB lol

I would say Stanton has more upside, but his floor could literally be negative points. I'm hoping Stanton has a big day because I have Calvin, but if Eli has both Smith and Nicks back you have to roll with him. Minnesota's secondary struggles and even their D Line isn't what it once was. They're about mid pack in terms of fantasy points allowed to QBs and WRs, but their solid against the run.

I'd guess at the end of the day Stanton has higher yardage totals both passing and rushing, but one less TD and one more INT than Eli. His rushing yards close the gap a bit but Eli has a better day.

-Drew Stanton: 316 passing yards, 2 TDs/2 INTs, 34 rushing yards

-Eli Manning: 265 passing yards, 3 TDs/1 INT, 12 rushing yards

you sat brady for stanton?

:ptts: Yes. Stanton has averaged 19 fantasy points in his 2 starts. More importantly, he's in a dome and NOT throwing in 50 mph winds. If I'm wrong, and Brady outscores him, then so be it. But don't act like it was a totally unfounded decision.

He outscored Aaron Rodgers.

As an aside, it looks like it won't matter WHO I started, as my opponent has McFadden. :wall:
