Peterson considering change in running style

December 11 10:30 AM

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is seriously considering altering his running style, being less upright and not fighting as hard for extra yards after being wrapped up. “Some guys are really out there to hurt you. ...It is really all about being smart. I have learned a lot and took heed of that.”

Fantasy Spin:

While some owners will bemoan this news, dynasty owners have to be thrilled. Peterson could easily, if things continue as they have, have a shortened career due to the hits he takes. There is some concern that his production may drop off if he drastically alters his style or shies away from contact, but most likely he will still continue to produce big numbers for his owners.

I could be completely wrong, but it seems to me that injuries are more likely to occur if you're worried about them and ready to "give up" while being tackled. I'd be fine with him being more willing to go out of bounds vs. tackled, LT style.

I think this statement is accurate. WHen I am watching the games and a guy is stuffed there is always a player who flies in to get the extra big hit. You would think that would be unnecessary as the player is clearly going down and the extra hit is doing nothing except hurting someone and ruining his career.

I see the flip side that he may bounce out of a tackle or make a miraculous play and you are doing your job, but there are A LOT of hits that do not seem necessary and you wonder how they do not get penalized. They may be fined after the game, but not flagged during.

This is the fundamental thing wrong with the NFL, go out and take as much steroids as you want and make the big hits, we will only slap your wrist with a $10,000 fine, but it is GREAT for ratings. I don't see a lot of concern for the players.

I can't access the link, but I can't see how they made the jump of him changing his running style from that quote.
