Are you a Costco member? What do you buy for your household? (2 Viewers)

Kids ski jacket + pants + down vests + gloves + long underwear.... $120.   :hifive:

Versus last year's last minute round up costing about 9X that.

:lmao:

I love visiting NY - could never live there.  A close representation of my costco parking lot today.
The two people in the cars facing opposite directions at the bottom of the picture had words over the spot right there where the people are packing their car.

I pulled into this row and figured I'd be sitting there for 15 minutes before I could even circle to the next row, all of the sudden someone wheels a cart to the car right next to where I was waiting, so lucky!

:blackdot:  Never been in one but have one opening up a couple miles from my house on 11/18.

I book as soon as I think I might need a car for a trip. Then a check back about once a week to try to better the price. Its very easy to book and cancel your previous booking.
Costco Travel is now my favorite way to rent a car.  There's always going to be one renter whose price will be way below market, even after scouring sites like RetailMeNot.  Also like not having to pay up front.

Tip: when putting in your rental length, first run the search as close to your travel times as possible.  Then do another inquiry extending the times out to exactly full days.  Another deal might pop up.

Example: say your flight arrives at 4:00 pm, and flight home takes off at 1:00 pm a few days later.  First run the search with pickup/dropoff right on those hours, or even dropping off an hour or two before your flight.  Then run the same inquiry, but adjust the pickup and dropoff times to both at 4:00 pm, or both at 4:30 pm.  Something about renting for exactly four days instead of 3 days, 21 hours might trigger a deal alert from one of the providers.

Only read the last page, so sorry if it's been covered. Not a member there but my wife goes with one of her girlfriends sometimes. Anyways, anyone ever buy furniture there? My wife likes a sectional they have there for our TV room. Quality? Any opinions are appreciated!

Generally good quality, and the return policy puts it over the top versus other equivalents.

Link to sectional?

I just bought an entertainment center from there on the 2nd. Seems pretty good so far. Had looked at some leather furniture online from them, and I like that you can get details on how it is built. This one was coil-in-foam for the cushions and 8-way hand tied, which is generally considered high quality. However, not being able to see/sit on it made us shy away then the sale was over. In retrospect, I should have ordered it and returned it if I didn't like it. The return policy is made just for that.

We bought some smoked salmon dip that was pretty nasty. Not spoiled but we just didn't like it. I was going to take it back and pulled it out of the fridge and the lid came off and the whole thing spilled over the floor.

Got a free membership through work last year. Here's what I always stock-up on when I make my monthly runs:

  • 2.5 lb. packages of rotisserie chicken breast meat. All white-meat, already picked and shredded, vacuum sealed so it lasts 1-2 months in the fridge. Always good to have on-hand to make a quick dinner for a couple days.
  • Kirkland Protein Bars
  • Kirkland honey-baked sliced turkey breast packs. Use these for weekly lunch sandwiches I take to work.
  • Microwave popcorn and Trail Mix that I bring in for my staff to snack on.

don't think ive seen that picked rotisserie chicken before. im going today will have to take another look

Long time Sams member, and recent Costco convert.  Costco had it all until recently, but Sams new app where you can checkout yourself by scanning your items using your smart phone and paying on your phone (no alcohol/tobacco purchases though), saves a ton of time and removes the single biggest annoyance i had with Sams - the checkout lines.

I'll have to check that out. Though, our self-checkout lines are usually pretty wide open, as 95% of the people at our store seem terrified of them (watching some try to operate it, that's probably just good self-awareness to avoid it).

Off topic, but watching people avoid self-checkout lines is as baffling as people that are scared of the "right lane" at the bank drive-thru. At my bank, people will regularly go to a 3-deep left lane, leaving an empty and open right lane. In both cases, I'm not sure why, but I'm pretty thankful for it.

Costco is the only place where I don't mind waiting in line to checkout.  Its usually very quick b/c I only go before closing or close to opening and for the brief amount of time I am in line, I typically just check out what other people are buying b/c there's such an interesting mix of stuff there.

He might mean grilled chicken meat vs. rotisserie...I've bought the grilled before...but then again, maybe not

We have that out in the Chicago burbs. It's awesome and a huge time saver.

We buy tons of kirkland stuff.  Alcohol is particularly well-priced, if hit or miss.  For mixing, it's awesome.

Always paying attention for the prices that end in *.97 as they're on some type of markdown, and usually it's significant.  I believe the same sam's code is *.01 in the price for closeout items.

It's just enjoyable to shop there and I trust the quality of their products, milk, eggs, and meat, more than any other place (perhaps except whole foods, but who can afford to shop there much anyway :) ).

Booked our trip to Italy last year through Costco travel, extremely happy with everything, will use again.

Just bought a car through Costco auto, saved $1400 more than all the quotes through Edmunds.  Again, would use again but hopefully no time soon.

Kirkland Chianti Classico,  Kirkland bourbon and Kirkland vodka all delicious.

We booked a trip to cancun last month for ~$2500 and it probably saved me a good $500.   Plus they arranged travel to and from the airport. Will use them again.

I will also vouch for the car rental service. Its money.

They make a duck that's fantastic. A whole duck, split in two and individually vacuum sealed. It's about $15. Just open a half and heat in the oven. The skin gets crispy and it's all kind of tender wonderful inside.

Their queso was always very good, but when I went last week there was a new queso supplier. Jury's still out on the new guy.

Our main TV is a 55" Samsung LED that is 5 years old. Nothing wrong with it per se...except when I go to Costco and see their prices on 60" 4K models. My wife doesn't understand why we need one.

Should I assume their prices are the best or shop the sales around Super Bowl time?

It'd be a shame if something happened to the old one...

I just bought one before Xmas from them.  Was the best price I found

Keep this out of the diet challenge thread, but if your store has the spicy dill pickle kettle chips buy every bag.

Today my foodsaver died that I bought from Costco a year and a half ago.

Tomorrow they will replace it for me, no hassle.

I love Costco
Perfect timing.  I keep pondering the purchase of one of these, for I feel like we end up with a lot of wasted food suffering from freezer burn.

Any thoughts on the foodsaver??

Their prices seem to fluctuate a lot and not necessarily tied to the Super Bowl. I think black friday and Christmas are typically the best.

I like it. Use it for cooking sous vide. I bought a big package of pork chops on rebate today from Costco and was planning on sealing them with some salt, butter, and rosemary and throwing them in the freezer to be able to pull directly from the freezer and drop in the water bath. For anything that doesn't have liquid it's great. For anything that has liquid it sucks.

I really want a chamber vacuum sealer but don't have an extra 800 bucks I'm willing to spend on one just so I can vacuum seal something with liquid.
Haven't had much problem using it for liquids, definitely more challenging and you may not get all the air out. I've used it to seal up leftover chicken and wild rice soup, red beans and rice and chicken tinga without too much of a problem. I use the wet setting and keep the bag as vertical as possible, so I'll put the food saver right on the edge of the counter and then get the bag into it. Once it clamps down I make sure it's at a 90 degree angle and seems to work fine.

That's a great idea.   How long does it usually take to cook that way?
