Ask Joe and me anything about FBG (1 Viewer)

David Dodds

Administrator
We are going to leave this thread up until Monday, May 31st.

Clayton Gray will then select approximately 30 questions from here and Joe and I will answer as an interview we post as site content. It can be about what we have planned for the website, our takes on certain things happening in the industry, etc.

How many leagues do each of you plan in each year? Also, approximate split b/w leagues with friends, industry, and popular high stakes leagues?

What can folks expect from the new contest and leagues that you all are going to run this season? I think most of us are eager to see this. When can we sign up and can you go over the fees and prizes?

Thanks

How much money did you guys make through FBG in 2009?
 I don't think anyone will/can complain due to the low level of costs for the content you actually get. So the more you guys make the better and good on you. But I have often wondered how much is made for you guys from this site.

Here is a question you guys would ask if you knew what I know right now. So I am going to ask it because you guys will love what this is all about.

What is TIF and how is it going to change the fantasy landscape?

Funny you posted this - I saw this on your FB page and was going to ask about it.So, what is TIF?

How will an extended strike or lockout impact sites like FBG? Will FF players get mad and walk away if its prolonged?

is this thread really just a poorly disguised plug for something?(if you pick this for the interview plz change 'thread' to 'interview')
I suppose I could have just gave Clayton the 30 questions I wanted him to ask us, but I thought most people would like the illusion of thinking they get to ask the questions. (sarcasm)Honestly, if there are a bunch of great questions, we will do a lot more than 30. It's easy for Joe and I (and the whole staff) to get super busy executing stuff. This post and the subsequent interview/responses lets us reconnect to the very reasons we do what we do. If I were asking these questions, here are some that I would be interested in:- What's FBGs Mobile Strategy for this year and beyond? - What things are behind the curtain today that are planned for 2010?- Map us out a picture as to what FBG the company will be like 2-5 years from now.

Mr. Dodds: your campaign website seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train -- Why are you so popular?

FBG used to have 5 staff members doing projections for Projections Dominator. Last year you guys dropped to 4 sets of projections. This is not enough of a sample size to produce an ideal result. Can FBG please have more staff members doing projections? 8-10 sets of projections in PD would be ideal.
Next time just ask GB - I'm happy to join the staff and do projections.

When will the "Stats>Historical Stats" link going to be fixed on the front page, it's a hassle to go through rankings and then player pages to get to it.

Also, will all the "Sub" pages change over to the new design or stick with the old?

Also, will the 5 features on the front page/middle of the screen be changed more regularly than they have been?

Why do customers walk away? How do you compare yourselves to the competition? Are you going to expand the fantasy predictions to other sports?

Here's something I've been wondering....

What's the OTHER news source Joe uses for his FBG "Daily Email"? It seems that about 75% or so of the stories come from rotoworld... but there's one, maybe 2 others that he C&P's from for that bit of content.

Do you ever get sick of rating players by ranking them numerically and have you discussed an alternate (or additional) method?

Odds of being #1 at the end of the season?

Percentage chance of finishing in the top 5 (or top 10, 20, etc.)?

The Waldman-Bloom Upside/Downside Awesomeness Quotient?

David,Hi. I saw a story about a startup FF organization on Dateline NBC or 60 Minutes or one of those shows about 4-5 years ago, anyways, it was about a group of guys who decided to start a FF website..one of these partners converted his garage into office space. it was located in San Diego..was that you guys?

Is there going to be an Ultimate Survivor Contest this year? I have always enjoyed those contests and hope that even though there were a few issues with the start-up last season that this contest continues in 2010.

Can you please add rankings for Dynasty PPR? These types of leagues seem to be the most common on the message boards here, it only makes sense that you have rankings for this.

I'll take this a step further and propose multiple dynasty rankings, i.e. dynasty rankings if a team is in "win now" mode, and dynasty rankings for teams that are rebuilding.

You and Joe square off mano y mano in the following...who wins each?

- Wrestling match

- Karaoke

- Tickle fight

- Bakugan brawl

- Egg McMuffin eating contest

When my job was in sports, it basically ruined my ability to enjoy it as a fan. Have either of you had a similar experience with starting to view football as "work".

would you consider diversifying the FBG "brand" to include league hosting, a la MFL? it seems like a natural progression to me that FBGs has somehow resisted to this point.

What are the biggest changes in FF since you started this site many years ago, and how has the competition changed the way you present news/information and development of the tools we use? Follow up - Do you see an expansion or contraction of on-line FF sites in the next 5 years, and why?

If there was one thing you guys could do with the FBG site's content/features/etc without having to put in the work/funds to do it what would it be?

Your fantasy football applications are by far the best in the business. Do you have any new applications that are going to debut this year, and are there any plans for mobile versions of the current applications? A mobile version of Draft Dominator would be amazing.

Did David's experience with FFTOC lead you to believe that non-roster and/or weekly contests might be an avenue for growth? Weekly auctions, for example, for people who love bidding but who are meh about season-long roster management. Like I said, for people with short attention spans.

I LOVED the "rate my team" feature that was introduced last season. When will this application be available for this season's projections?

Also, what other kind of game-breaking applications similar (or different) to that one can we expect in the future?

1) Do you see any benefit in using "non-traditional" econometrics in football now, and is there any research in the field that makes you optimistic about its use in the future? I've seen IBM commercials advertising their work with professional sports organizations in developing useful data for quantitative analysis of player performance. Do you think only well-funded organizations will be able to implement useful metrics in football due to the complexity of the game?

2) How much has interest in dynasty leagues grown over the past year compared to the past five? At the current and expected rates of growth, when do you see the tipping point occurring and what is FBG going to do to keep up with demand?

3) When can we expect an overhaul of Lineup Dominator, reborn as "League Dominator"? MFL Import is a great start, but an app better suited for managing multiple leagues is needed. Consolidation of the apps would be nice - How awesome would it be if you could open up one app, and every time you opened up a league, you could set it to auto-sync with MFL?

4) Is the future of FBG to continue providing information and community, or will there ever be a push into league management?
