Attire NYC Winter (1 Viewer)

Help a warm weather Texas guy dress for an upcoming weekend:

Broadway matinee - jeans/button down?

Saturday night out - same?

Do I need a coat?  I believe I own a Northface jacket and a ski jacket.

Are shoes a concern? If there is snow left over from this week's storms do I need boots?

I've never intentionally gone anywhere cold aside from skiing for vacation... wife wants to see NYC, so off we go.  Highs in the 30's next weekend, in TX that simply means I put on sweat pants and don't leave the house.

You can wear whatever you normally wear everywhere, unless you're going to a fancy gown ball or a nice restaurant that has a dress code.

Check the weather forecast otherwise. We just had most of a week pushing 60, but now are in the 30s. I'd assume the latter and bring a parka. Hat scarf and gloves useful, but optional if your northface coat is warm and has a hood.

No hood.  I don't even know wtf a parka is beyond being a type of jacket.

I wouldn't expect much from whatever snow it looks like we're getting. It rarely lasts long on the streets in the city even if there's a lot and this doesnt seem like much.

Dinner/drinks... probably no need for anyplace fancy.  Rooftop bars open in December?
Most places are pretty casual unless otherwise stated. Wear what you feel comfortable in...although probably want to make the wife happy matching her if she gets dolled up (were going out to nobu tonight for anniversary, and even though I was Jean and t ready, the wife alerted me she was getting dressier so now I'm adding button down and Blazer.)

Congrats on the anniversary.

You'll be fine. If it starts to dip lower and you have plans to walk around, you'll want a hat at least.
I like hats. Go with a fedora tonight.

Dudes from Texas.  30 degrees is gonna feel like he stepped into Antarctica
Hit mid twenties here in Dallas a couple weeks back

If it's mid or upper 30's, you might want to go with a button down or sweater and a sport coat... match that (especially sweater or sweater shirt) with gloves and a hat and you should be good if you dont mind the cold too much and it classes #### up if ya want to for a nice din er or broadway. Definitely bring your heavier coat just kn case, though.

As a fellow Texan who spends a lot of time in NYC, I'd definitely take a coat.  The weather can be all over the place this time of the year and like Chicago, if the temp doesn't get you the wind will.  Sportscoat, Pullover sweater and a button down can also suffice in early winter.  Class it up with a scarf :style&warmth:

Whatever you do, be sure you wander along the sidewalks at a very slow pace, and constantly look up in awe at the tall buildings.  Pay no mind to the guy behind you trying to get to the train to work through his 90-minute commute home to his family.  Just look up, mouth agape.  Maybe get out your phone, snap a few photos.  Also works very well at densely populated street corners with people crossing in multiple directions.  Always a good spot for that.

Love me some tourists.

And yeah, bring a coat dodo.  It's cold out.

I wouldn't know what to do with a scarf.. the guy at Saks was trying to sell me one.  Couldn't do it.

You’re going to a Broadway show. Don’t dress like a slob. Upgrade the jeans to slacks, are a sports jacket.

otherwise wear a jacket, Skip the rooftop bars and instead find a good basement speakeasy

I’ve been to NYC a bunch for work, but taking the wife and kids for their first visit next weekend. Buying a Canada Goose jacket for the occasion because #### it, I want one.

My oldest wants to see Carlo’s Bakery more than anything else because he watches too much TV.

Don't do this.

Make sure he realizes the real one is across the river in Hoboken and not the one in Port Authority.

Real one doesn’t get big crowds anymore but the main people are happy to come out and take pics if they’re there.

He does for sure, but we don’t have time to make Hoboken. It was either this one or nothing.

OK, someone recommend a scarf.

I'll go watch some youtube videos on how to use them so I don't end up with a turban.
I have like 50 soccer scarves. Happy to finally get to wear one.
