Austin Seferian-Jenkins - What do you think? (1 Viewer)

that would be great if the guy would ever play
Now he's saying he hasn't been cleared by the medical staff. I thought I heard he was cleared but wouldn't play unless he was 100%....?

What is with this guy...? Dropped Richard Rodgers for him before last week as my bench TE...that turned out great.
I hear he has been cleared to play and the decision is his.
I tend to agree with that statement.

First clue was when he started talking about the need to be 100%. Most players are not 100% this time of the season and you don't need to be 100% to be cleared to play. It's possible I'm over reacting to player speak but typically when I hear players say they need to be 100% it seems to me that the choice to play or not is in their court because coaches and medical staff are not holding out for 100%.

Hard to interpret from that article what his exact mood was, Rotoworld seemed to spin it as mad at medical staff for not clearing him. I thought it was more a guy frustrated with people putting pressure on him to play when he's already exceeded the estimated recovery time and again for all we know he's been cleared but is choosing to not return which only amps up the pressure.

shoulder strains can be gravely painful. so can tummy aches. give the kid a break. oh wait, not a break. that'd be a career ender for him.

Any news anywhere? This has sucked.
Not really news but Tampa beat writer wondered if his designation this past week to doubtful was a sign he had a setback because the other weeks he was listed as questionable. Not sure since end result was the same, not playing, was the same but he knows more then me.

TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been cleared for contact, a major hurdle to getting back on the field "He has been cleared. It's a big step," coach Lovie Smith said. "Austin has been cleared for full contact. ... This is as advanced as he's been, as far along as he's been in a long time. We're encouraged. We'll see what happens Sunday."

Seferian-Jenkins has missed the last nine games since injuring his shoulder in the Bucs' win against the Saints in Week 2. His return would add another key target for rookie Jamies Winston, who has yet to play a full game with receivers Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson and Seferian-Jenkins all healthy at the same time.

If there was such a thing as "TB team TE" that guy would be worth a lot. But as it is Winston spreads it around to three different TE's every game.

Decided to switch to him last minute as the least crappy of many crappy tight end options. Almost ended up being a disaster but ended being a foot shy of a grand slam. Still, 10+ points is more than I've gotten from the TE spot all year, so I'll certainly take it.

I think he's a moron. Cost his team a chance at 6 when he was tackled at the 1 and then chucked the football for a delay of game penalty.

He must get so excited when he actually manages to catch the ball that he can't control his emotions.

The few plays he's made in his short career seem to have all been in blowouts and he celebrates like its the Super Bowl.

Rotoworld:

Austin Seferian-Jenkins - TE - Buccaneers

Austin Seferian-Jenkins reeled in two of four targets for 60 yards and a touchdown in the Buccaneers' Week 16 loss to the Bears.

Garbage time was kind to ASJ. He reeled in a 43-yard touchdown on Tampa Bay’s final play from scrimmage. He was nonexistent before that and continues to be a relative disappointment for fantasy purposes. Seferian-Jenkins will get one more crack at it next week against the Panthers.

I am gonna bench him next week in my bowl after two lucky weeks at my flex. Unless Gronk is rested, there is no way I chance a zero.

Bucs OC Dirk Koetter suggested Austin Seferian-Jenkins is in a fight to win a starting job over Cameron Brate.

A former UDFA out of Harvard, Brate posted a 23-288-3 receiving line in 14 games last season. Seferian-Jenkins has struggled to stay healthy, missing seven games as a 2014 rookie and nine more last year. "Jameis (Winston) and Cam(eron Brate), they really connected last year," Koetter said. "They had a real good feel for each other in the red zone and on seam routes and just all over the field really. And Cam, well, he really made the most of his opportunities." The job will belong to Seferian-Jenkins if he stays healthy. The Bucs cut Brate four days after Week 1 last season, only to re-sign him after ASJ went down. Still, this could be a make-or-break year for Seferian-Jenkins in Tampa.

So he is somewhere between the key to the entire offense and losing his job..... tumultuous month for the big fella considering he didn't even play in a game.

If he stays healthy I can't imagine him losing out to Brate, but this isn't great news.  He better be trying hard to build chemistry with Winston this offseason...

Keep an eye on 6th round "fullback" Dan Vitale. He should probably have his own thread here if he doesn't already.

He played a hybrid "super back" position at Northwestern.  Great receiver. Great athlete. Give his combine numbers a look.

He'll play all over the place for the Bucs.

If ASJ falters again via injury, drops, or mental lapses Vitale could supplant his looks quickly.

Think Chris Cooley.

Afterward, while practice was going on, ASJ tweeted "MOVING ON!!!!"

That tweet was deleted, but later posted "Can't let negative stuff get to u. Let it happen and move on!"

http://twitter.com/gregauman has a short clip where Koetter says "You guys are making more of it than you need to."

It sounds to me like ASJ let his emotions get the best of him & the gun on Twitter.  Koetter down played it, and said it was a voluntary workout anyways.  I don't think k the Bucs are taking his unofficial claims about quitting too seriously.  It sounds like he didn't know the playbook, and was messing up so they sent him home.

But why delete it?

I have no problem believing a mountain was made of a mole hill but I do have a problem with a 2nd year pro NFL player not knowing (or understanding) his playbook.  That's a some of something (whatever that may be) that is not good.

Also, he could have just meant that he was "Moving On" from whatever issue it was, and he deleted the tweet and reposted to clarify...

But still, as an ASJ owner this isn't what you want to see in the offseason.  My first thought when I saw the story?  F***.

He is a great kid and great talent as evidenced by the stats above. Thanks Xue!
