Back Up RBs worth stashing on your roster? (1 Viewer)

I feel like this year more than most there seem to be a bunch of guys that went undrafted that either have a chance to play significant time or are an injury away from the limelight.

Jerome Harrison---->Peyton Hillis

Mendenhall--->Redman

Who in your estimation do you think is the real deal this year?

b.scott, j.ringer, d.brown, r.jennings, b.jackson, j.snelling, a.dixon

lottery tickets, but i like to have at least one of them on my team in case the guy in front goes down.

My guess would be Dixon in SF. I hope that Gore carries my team but he hasn't exactly been Favre when it comes to missing games. For an early season gamble, he seems as though he could have real shot at a couple of starts.

A Dixon, B Scott, Gerhart, Ringer

I also have a feeling Green-Ellis is gonna get his shot this year. No way will F taylor get the bulk of the carries.

The only real dudes worth a damn

Best backups to have:

Rashard Jennings- only because all of the MJD rumors, even though I think MJD is just fine

Willis Mcgahee-I believe is still able to put up decent numbers as a starter on a mediocre team, and since the Ravens are pretty damn good if Rice goes down Mcgahee may just be top ten material.

Benard Scott-is fairly talented and if given the opportunity through injuries or what have could become an every week fantasy starter

Darren Sproles- is gonna be involved in the offense regardless of a Matthews injury, but could turn into a ppr monster if Matthews goes down

L.T.- Yeah he's done but if Greene goes down with that offensive line I don't know how the guy couldn't produce.

Kareem Huggins-everyones sleeper is supposed to be the next Jamaal Charles, and not that much is holding him back. Come on kid

Other options:

Donald Brown- Even if Addai goes down I think the Colts will find a way not to make him the guy. Just Saying

Leon Washington- it's gonna be a committee and Leon is gonna get his touches but I would stay away from the Seahawks rushing attack

Javon Ringer- Titans line is good, The End

Peyton Hillis- I think Jerome is the guy and even if he isn't neither is Hillis

Snelling/Norwood- they are just mediocre at best, I would stay away

Toby Gerhart/Albert Young- forget that

Oh yeah i forgot

Anthony Dixon- he be pushing it, the line be pushing it

Redman- Moore will do more than people think if Mendenhall can't play

If I can put a finer point on this, since no one has the roster space to stash all these guys they really need to be ranked according to value and expectations. I'll go first but some may disagree with me. Interested to hear others takes on this list.

B Scott- As the Bengal backup would step right into the best situation carrywise he has to lead the list. Talent opportunity and situation. Check, check and check. I don't have him anywhere but he leads my list.

R Jennings- Rumors of MJD having a tear somewhere in his knee has to frighten those who spent high dollar to secure his services. Kid is supposed to have all the tools and the situation looks right. Karim threatens but smart money has Jennings with the first shot and I agree. Course Del Rio is not the most stable guy in the league, a hot seat sends guys in funny directions. Still, he's my second choice.

Dixon- A very good #3 choice this year. Gore always seems to get dinged up there. Dont get me wrong, lotta love for the guy and he's a real talent. But you cant ignore the history of injury and easy schedule his backup would face. Westbrook is gonna take some no matter what, but Dixon is able to win a trophy for his owners if things fall right.

Those are my top 3 and hopefully one is available in your league. If not, keep hunting. It'll be that guy outta nowhere that wins someone his league.

What about Andre Brown (I think it's Andre - the guy that Denver picked up off NYG waivers). I think that screams pick up as the guys in front him are weak.

considering spiller has been named the starter in buffalo, fred jackson has to be on this list. Although im sure he isn't on that many waiver wires, i found him on mine somehow and had to stash him as my 4th rb. I like spiller as a player, even being a rookie i think he does well, but history points more to a rookie struggling initially than running away with the job. (yes i know its been done, but its not the norm :( ) Jackson was solid last year despite being behind that horrid line with no real passing game and he should see some time as soon as this week and even more when his thumb is fully healed (at week 4 1/2 in what was said to need 4-6 weeks to heal). If anything were to happen with spiller (poor performance, injury, fumbling, etc etc) jackson should see a huge increase in his work load

thoughts?

Donald Brown, Peyton Hillis, Kareem Huggins, Fred Jackson, Leon Washington

In my mind, those are the 5 guys who are in a position where they could find themselves getting a strong enough workload to merit flex consideration even if the guy in front of them doesn't get injured. Addai, Harrison, Williams, and Forsett are not world-beaters. Spiller is unproven and might see more usage as a change-of-pace-slash-general-purpose-weapon-type than as a pound-the-rock type.

Obviously Jonathan Stewart and Jamaal Charles both go without saying. You know, since they were both top-12 RBs last year and all.

If you want to take a flier on a real longshot in Denver, roster Lance Ball, not Andre Brown. JMO.

Jamaal Charles would be a good backup to have (according to the KC depth chart)
What is the real story here in KC....all my rankers including FBG have charles ranked so highly, yet Tjones is the "starter."
todd haley head games. the chiefs won't need TJ to grind it because we're gonna be behind most games.
Thomas Jones had two career years in 09 and 08 and Charles played great in 5 of the 8 last games last year, 4 of which against garbage defenses, so Jones gets the start but it will be a time share regardless of who gets the start. On topic:-Beanie Wells at this point-Michael Bush-Larry Johnson-Slaton Possibly-Chester Taylor

chester taylor. better fit for a Martz offense and they gave him a bunch of $ to sign him as a FA... doubt they did that just to have him riding the pines.

I have Javon Ringer in a league that I don't have CJ

I have Bernard Scott in another league where I don't have Benson

I have McGahee in my third league, and I do have Rice.

Godd answers in here.

:excited:

Edit: Oh yeah, I have LT in 2 of those leagues, Greene in none.

If by chance your in one of them 20 man leagues, and them guys are rostered, Id suggest Lex Hilliard.

btw what happened w/ Starks? Id like to roster him, dwyer or some longshot for nxt season at some point...

What about Tashard Choice. Even when Felix and Barber are healthy they find a way to get him on the field. If one of them is injured his value really goes up. (Oh yeah NEWSFLASH, Felix and Barber are not the model injury free RBs) WOW SHOCKER.

Javon Ringer Peyton Hillis and that is only if you have CJ and or harrison. Its such a waste to hancuff a guy you don't have. People do that in my league and it never works out for them. :)

b.scott, j.ringer, d.brown, r.jennings, b.jackson, j.snelling
I agree with you about d.brown...but havent we seen Bjackson have the chance and fail before? Snelling too....
snelling was fine last season when turner went down. jackson hasn't had the chance, but the packers have confidence in him and he's the only other back on the roster (ty bloom :) )
snelling was better than fine, he posted 100+ yd td games.ETA not quite. (as in his td was not with the 100 yd game, but he did put up 8-9 pts vs the jets last year12/20/09 atNYJ 0 0 0 0 0 0.0 16 59 3.7 0 3 5 1.7 0 012/27/09 vsBUF 0 0 0 0 0 0.0 15 68 4.5 0 1 6 6.0 0 01/3/10 atTB 0 0 0 0 0 0.0 25 147 5.9 0 3 21 7.0 0 0

I fully expect Keiland Williams to get at least one start in Washington. Undrafted RB in the Shanahan system behind two old worn down guys, there are way worse chances to take considering the guy played pretty well in the preseason.

Mike Tolbert in SD should be on the fringe of your radar. He's looked good not only in short yardage, but also on "regular" carries.

handcuff to either Bush or PT- Chris Ivory. Probably on waivers in even the deepest of leagues yet with the injury history of the Saints duo, Ivory should be on the radar. He will not be a featured back even with injury to Bush or PT but how many of those are left in the NFL any way?

The only problem with picking up these handcuffs is that unless you have a fairly deep roster, it's pretty hard to just hold them waiting for some random late season injury. It seems that in all the leagues I play in, these are usually the first guys dropped onto waivers in the first few weeks. I drafted Toby Gerhart this year, but I'll most likely end up dropping him.

1) Tashard Choice - Will be the benificiary if either Felix or Barber goes down, and one of them usually does. Could have a Miles Austin/Arian Foster value spike for a cheap investment.

2) Anthony Dixon - Should be a fairly run-heavy offense and he's got talent.

3) McGahee - Backup+TD vulture
