Bad news for Lamont Jordan... (1 Viewer)

History speaks not so well for ACC RBs and 2nd rounders at that.

I would not be paying top dollar for a guy who's spent his 4 year NFL career as a backup.
Can we say this now that Miami is in the ACC? :bag: Don't draft Priest because he was a backup for four years! :P

My point is, to reach the top you have to take a chance every now and then. Jordan has been behind a HOF'er for all of those years (and a guy who led the league in rushing last year) and has shown that he is an above average performer when he is in. He is in a good situation with good WRs and a wide open offense. He will succeed if he can carry the load.

[As far as scouting a FA out as much as the rookies... What kind of interest did he generate outside Oakland? AFAIK, they were the only team really looking to give him big bucks like that. It's not like other teams didn't have RB needs before the draft.
IIRC, Tampa was supposedly making a big push to get Jordan, and Miami was making some noise as well. The Raiders clearly made Jordan an offer he couldn't refuse, but I don't think they were alone in their interest in Lamont.

Any reason to read into Crockett getting carries inside the 10 in the preseason game?1-10-HOU10 (12:10) Z.Crockett right end to HST 8 for 2 yards (J.Babin).2-8-HOU8 (11:46) Z.Crockett up the middle to HST 4 for 4 yards (R.Smith, M.Greenwood).3-4-HOU4 (11:05) K.Collins pass to D.Gabriel for 4 yards, TOUCHDOWN.Lamont did run for a 27 yarder the play before and was probably tired, but that is not good news for Lamont and scoring TDs. Tha was the only time in the game that they got within the 10 yard line. It could have been just bad timing when Crockett took over for Lamont after his run, or it could be just what they have planned for Crockett.

Crockett is definitely going to vulture some TDs from Lamont and this should be a concern for the Jordan bandwagon contingent. Unfortunately the Oakland first teamers only had one three plays inside the 10 v SF too (1 rush for Jordan and 2 passes by Collins) so it is difficult to gauge how much of an impact Crockett is going to have at this point. Maybe we will learn more next week, until then this is definitely something to keep an eye on.

We had a thread discussing this a week or so ago.

As I mentioned there, IMO Jordan will likely get first crack at goal line duty. If he stumbles, Crockett will assume that role.

Let's not forget that Jordan is a very big, powerful guy himself - we're not talking Charlie Garner here.
WRONG. Crockett is the short yardage goal line back in OAK. Every time they have 1-3 yarss to get a first down or TD he will be in the game nad has proven to be the best around at getting it done in this roll. For me this makes Jorday no more than a 3rd RB on my teams and if that as i just hate having a player who takes hias team down the field only yo lose the 6 points if they get close to the goal line. Not much worse than that.

He looked good running for the Raiders in the preseason - if you didn't watch it you don't know.He was explosive to the corner and he powered through tackles - plus the Raiders offensive line looked very good in front of him.My point is that I watched him RUN and he looked good RUNNING with the ball. He also looked good last year when he ran during various points in the game - he also looked good two years ago filling in while CuMar struggled with injury.Agreed on his running skillz, but also consider the following:Catches, catches, catches. If you are in a ppr league, upgrade LaMont. He has shown great hands and Collins has shown that he's gonna throw to LaMont whenever he doubts the longer routes.LaMont will easily surpass 40 catches and may push 60+.BTW, I just drafted him at 4.09 in a decently competitive 10-team redraft league, but the big reason for that was b/c I went QB/WR/WR in Rds 1-3. Calculated risk, but it paid off.

Keep in mind he also has one of the hardest run schedules in the league this year.its one thing to look at last years rankings and conclude about strength of schedule but to PREDICT SOS is so dumb i laugh when i see it.if SOS is based on a winning record the year before and bad teams become good the following year and vice versa, how can one assume the Raiders have a tough overall run defense facing them all year?yeah, like the titans, dolphins, jets, giants and browns all have awesome run defenses!Like predicting san diego to be the worst team in the league last yearand dallas was supposed to have an awesome D last yearand atlanta would lead the league in Sacks these are examples that have nothing to do with injuries too. all that you do KNOW is lamont was paid big bucks ot come ot oakland and complement big play receivers and kerry collins/norv turner deep ball game. He has a solid line including a stud tackle in Gallery and a key block tight end (roland williams) returning

Roland Williams is in St. Louis. Courtney Anderson and Teyo Johnson are the OAK TEs.

aside from that, it is possible that because they graded so highly (three went in top 5... may have been first or second time since merger?) they were thought to have higher upside. but a RB doesn't necessarily have to have top 5 pedigree to excel... priest is huge aberration being undrafted... i do think a pretty high percentage of leagues RBs are from day one... dom davis exception as fourth rounder, many think whizzenator/SOD, moore & fason all better than bennett & they are fourth rounders... i forget where rudi was taken but definitely not first round...
Rudi, Dom Davis and Stephen Davis are the only relevant 4th rounders the last decade. We'll see what happens with Lee Suggs and LaBrandon Toefield, but I feel they'll end up on the discard pile of past 4th rounders as well.

On a slightly related note, Kevin Jones has about a 71% chance of being REALLY good during his career.

And yeah, C-Mart was a 3rd rounder along with Ahman Green.

That's at least the second time I've seen you post about Crockett definitely being the goal line back. Maybe he will be, but the truth is, no one knows for sure.Sounds like you missed out on Jordan and are really trying to bash the guy as justification.
