Tex was originally a decent 3B.
And Jorge Posada was originally a decent 2B.I know what you're saying, but I just disagree. If TEX really feels the need to move Blalock to make room for A.Gonzalez, (I just disagree with that too), how about signing Bill Mueller to play 3B and move Tex to LF?

I don't follow TEX closely, but agree Blalock would reap a windfall of both major league and minor league talent.

BOS Gets Hank Blalock

TEX Gets Kevin Youkilis, Matt Clement & Anibal Sanchez

This is fun.
I would like that trade a lot, but how is Clement doing after surgery?Youkilis' OBP would be very beneficial in that small ball park.

how is Clement doing after surgery?
According to Rotoworld (via Boston Herald) 10/30/05:
Matt Clement underwent arthroscopic surgery in Pittsburgh to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Clement wasn't limited by the knee during the season, but the Red Sox found the injury during the year-end medical review. He'll be ready to go when pitchers and catchers report.

According to the Boston Globe:

The Red Sox have announced their first two interviews in the GM search. Jim Beattie, the former Expo GM who was part of the two-headed disaster in Baltimore, and Jim Bowden, the Weston native who thrilled Washington by keeping the Nationals in the NL East race for much of the season, will interview for the job.
EDITORIAL COMMENT: Huh?

According to the AP, P Ugueth Urbina has been charged with attempted murder:

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ugueth Urbina was arrested as Venezuelan authorities sought to charge him with attempted murder for an assault on several employees last month, his lawyer said Tuesday.

The Sporting News names CLE GM Mark Shapiro its "Major League Baseball Executive of the Year."
What a joke.White Sox GM Kenny Williams rebuilt a team in one season and won a World Series.

Shapiro is a good GM, but this isn't even close.

LAA P Bartolo Colon wins AL Cy Young.
Nice turnaround. This time last year, Bartolo Colon was about to be filed under the "Darren Dreifort" folder for "overpaid crappy starting pitchers who were in demand for a moment in time."

If he had done steroids, he might have been the AL Comeback Player of the Year, too. But alas, we love our druggies, right Mr Giambi?

BOS has requested permission to interview CLE Assistant General Manager Chris Antonetti for their vacant GM position.

All because they wouldn't pay Epstein any more than the same salary a utility infielder makes. It's gonna be a rough few years in Boston the way this organization is heading. Manny.....gone (?) Damon.....gone. Schilling.....ineffective and a day older than dirt.

It's gonna be a rough few years in Boston
Why?
I kind of said it in my post, but I'll explain.Manny and Damon want to leave, Schilling is on the downfall of his career, they let Epstein go because they barely wanted to pay him utility infielder wages, and now they could be stuck with one of the worst GM's in the history of baseball: Jim Bowden.

Now, keep in mind, a "rough few years" in Boston = mediocrity everywhere else. And since Boston has some real whackos for fans, we won't hear the end of it.

ATL manager Bobby Cox named NL Manager of the Year.CHW manager Ozzie Guillen named AL Manager of the Year.

Cox is definitely deserving, but I really thought LaRussa had a shot at it this year. Losing Sanders and Rolen and making due with guys such as Taguchi, Mabry, Nunez, Luna, etc. was very impressive. 100 win year yet again and only one dominant pitcher (Carpenter).Admittedly, Cox did a great job in Atlanata as well with his young team. Did LaRussa at least get some love in the voting?

If Manny and Damon leave, and they don't do something to address starting pitching, the possibility of a 3rd place AL East finish the Devil Rays passing them in the AL East isn't remote.
Fixed.
OK, I'll bite. I'd be interested in hearing the case for that.
I won't make a case for that happening in 2006, but I'll explain why they'll have a shot in 2007:1. New ownership. Seems like Steinberg actually gives a crap about the team.

2. New GM. His last name isn't LaMar. End of story.

3. Young talent. By 2007, Crawford, Baldelli, Gomes, Kazmir, and Cantu will starting their young prime years. Delwyn Young will be manning the OF with Crawford and Baldelli (I hear he had is contract extended today) by then and BJ Upton will have finally arrived for good, replacing Lugo probably.

This is gonna be a solid team in 2007. 2006.....not so much.

Delwyn Young is a second baseman in the Dodger's system.. Delmon Young is who you are thinking of.

No, I don't even think I was thinking at that exact point. My mind is putty today.

according to Newsday Mets will basically be the top bidder for Wagner. If he chooses to go else where (and maybe even if he doesn't) the Mets according to NY Daily News have been in contact with TB. Mets would trade young arms for Baez and Huff. Not big on that myself. Mets also might look to trade Trachsel and/or Benson and go with Burnett, Loiaza, Millwood or Washburn.ALso the NY Post says the Mets have interest in first baseman Eduardo Perez and reliever Octavio Dotel, both free agents. They are not aggressively pursuing Paul Konerko as of now. But Wagner is the #1 priority.

Loiza, Millwood or Washburn -- AWFULThink Id rather have Ryan than Wagner

Loiza, Millwood or Washburn -- AWFUL
Kevin Millwood was the 4th-best pitcher in the AL last year, according to VORP. He was the 6th-best pitcher in the AL last year, according to SNLVAR.SNLVAR - Basically, it's wins above average added by a pitcher's performance, compared to replacement value.

11/14 RUMORS:

- NYY and OF Hideki Matsui are rumored to be close to agreeing to terms on a 4 Year/$50 million contract. Matsui becomes a free agent 11/15 if the two sides do not agree to a deal.

- CHC and FLA are reportedly in talks on a deal that would send FLA OF Juan Pierre to CHC in exchange for OF Corey Patterson and a package of minor leaguers. Other reports say a third team may be involved in the deal.

- LAD owner Frank McCourt has reportedly offered former BOS General Manager Theo Epstein a minority ownership stake in the team should he agree to accept the GM post.

- ATL Assitant General Manager Dayton Moore is rumored to be the current front-runner to replace Theo Epstein as GM of the Boston Red Sox.

EDIT: Clarity.

I have this transcript from the interview. Here's the play-by-play.====================================================

John Henry- "Hello, Mr Epstein!"

Dayton Moore- "I'm sorry?"

Henry- "Mr. Moore, excuse me I'm going through Theo withdraw here. Please disregard it."

Moore (puzzled)- "Ok, so let's get this meeting started."

Henry- "Have a seat."

*Henry and Moore have a seat*

Henry- "So, can you provide the same job functions as Theo Epstein once did?"

Moore- "Aw screw this."

*Dayton Moore storms out the room*

Secretary- "Goodbye, Mr Epstein!"

Moore- "IT'S DAYTON MOORE, WENCH!!!!"
