I'd say Oakland. But I also very much agree with your larger point.Name one team besides Chicago thats not loaded with question marks in their pitching staff.

Great, a few teams have question marks, we agree. But these teams are going to be as good as their starting pitching takes them and for that reason, its a little early to say that the Yankees are that much better than the Red Sox or Toronto for that matter.Name one team besides Chicago thats not loaded with question marks in their pitching staff.
Kyle Farnsworth... Octavio Dotel... bueller? So all they have really done is sign Johnny Damon. I'm really not that impressed with their offseason.
More questions than answers. The last time I saw Farnsworth he blew an Atlanta lead, that cost them the playoffs. Dotel coming off a major injury.Sorry but Im not sold on either of those guys. Glad that you are though Bueller.Kyle Farnsworth... Octavio Dotel... bueller? So all they have really done is sign Johnny Damon. I'm really not that impressed with their offseason.
I'll take either of those guys over ANY pitcher currently in the Red Sox's pen. And that's no "anti-Sawx" shtick.More questions than answers. Over Mota and Timlin? Hmmmm....interesting. I'd say its a push. Of course, The Sox have nothing close to Mariano. How old is he anyway? It feels like he's been the Yankees closer for about 50 years.I'll take either of those guys over ANY pitcher currently in the Red Sox's pen. Well Joe, Why ARE you stealing from them?Hey Guys,
Please don't post pay info from other sites. Whenever you do that, I have to deal with the site as to why I'm "stealing" from them and so on.
Thanks.

You're a Cubs fan too?]While the conversation in here being dominated by sox/yanks discussion I'd like to remind everyone that neither the Sox nor the Yankees will be winning the world series this year.
Dotel and Mota are definately a push. Impossible to say right now who will be more reliable out of those two.Farnsworth had his best year pitching in meaningless games in Detroit. We will see if he is ready for the next level. I was never particularly impressed with him in Chicago, other than that he could throw really hard.Over Mota and Timlin? Hmmmm....interesting. Add Papelbon into the mix in the bullpen too. The Sox pen is better than the Yankees, except for closer.Of course, that's like saying that Sandra Bernhart is really hot, except for her face.Dotel and Mota are definately a push. Sox have a wildcard in Craig Hansen. He was great in college and relievers generally get adjusted to the Majors faster than starters, he could be decent for them this year.
If Papelbon is in the bullpen, that definately makes it stronger.I think Papelbon is going to be starting though. Good chance Wells and either Clement or Arroyo are traded. If they trade two, Papelbon will be starting for sure.Add Papelbon into the mix in the bullpen too. Nope... lifer Sox fan but also a BIT of a realist (sometimes)You're a Cubs fan too?,Jan 4 2006, 04:24 PM]While the conversation in here being dominated by sox/yanks discussion I'd like to remind everyone that neither the Sox nor the Yankees will be winning the world series this year.
I agree. I actually think the A's finally get over the hump and win it.]While the conversation in here being dominated by sox/yanks discussion I'd like to remind everyone that neither the Sox nor the Yankees will be winning the world series this year.
that is laughable. no way the sox do anything but laugh at that.Sox offer Manny and Clement and cash for Tejada.
Orioles counter with Manny, Clement, Marte and cash for Tejada.
Apparently 6 teams are pursuing Tejada.
If the Sox do what the O's want, I'll be upset.
That's ridiculous.I'm starting to come to the realization that this Tejada thing is not happening.Orioles counter with Manny, Clement, Marte and cash for Tejada.
I agree with...[icon]?]So all they have really done is sign Johnny Damon.Thier only weak link was the pen. The injuries to the starters can't be expected to recur... and their only weak link was CF and POSSIBLY 2B though Cano showed flashes of brilliance for a rookie last year.
Where else do you propose they improve. Sure, they'd love to have a starting rotation like Chicago, but with a lineup like thiers, their current rotation is more than serviceable.
This is such dishonest analysis, I needed to say something. Sure, Lowell won a gold glove with the Marlins last year, but his OPS was a pitiful .658 compared to Mueller's .799. Even Brooks Robinson's skills at 3rd couldn't make up for that deficiency at the plate. Worse, Lowell's OPS was .859 in July, meaning that the res of the year he REALLY sucked. Sure, Lowell improved over the 2nd half last year (to the tune of a .693 OPS), but for a guy that's turning 32 and only had one month last year where he even broke a BA of .250 I wouldn't be talking him up so much.Mueller has a career .798 OPS and is essentially an average fielder. Lowell has a career .799 OPS, is 3 years younger, and just won a Gold Glove. I don't see how this is a net loss.
When will Giambi be out of the league?Lowell was a steroid user, plain and simple. His good years were a result of steroids. He already had the testicular cancer to prove it. Hell be out of the league in 2 years along with Bret Boone and sammy Sosa.

Testicular cancer = steroids? You sure about that?Lance Armstrong's fans are going to be awfully disappointed...Lowell was a steroid user, plain and simple. His good years were a result of steroids. i agree with this. i am very skeptical about seeing lowell return to previous form. Also, I am inclined to be overly suspicious of guys that had bad 2005s, because of my steroids suspicions. Lowell's best hope is that the monster will do wonders for his stats.
So they basically resigned Doug Mientkiewicz
agreed. If wilson's knee is healthy, he can put some numbers up. He was big 2 years ago in colorado.Anyone mention Preston Wilson to the Astros yet?
Huge signing for the Astros and Wilson is my pick for comeback player of the year in that ballpark on that team.
Snow has a higher OPS over the past 3 yrs (.823 to .760) and isn't as nifty with the glove. For $2MM it sounds like a good signing, although how the Red Sox use him is a bit more complex. So they basically resigned Doug Mientkiewicz

He wasn't bad enough to get consideration for that award. His OPS was almost .800 last year. He still whiffs like it's nobody's business.Anyone mention Preston Wilson to the Astros yet?

...but he dropped off from his phenomenal season in Colorado, so comparatively the numbers he will put up in Houston will be mind boggling. As a Cardinal fan, I was desperately hoping we would land Wilson as a last second move by Jocketty. Why use splits when his regular stats indicate the same thing? Splits just make it seem that he's much better, which he's not (although the difference is significant)3-year splits against RHP:
Mientkiewicz:
.271 avg
.362 obp
.399 slg
JT Snow:
.300 avg
.391 obp
.456 slg
Not quite the same thing...
Because the Sox plan on using Snow in a platoon role with Youkilis. I'd bet that JT will be used almost exclusively against righties. Why use splits when his regular stats indicate the same thing?
