BCS National Championship Thread: Florida St v. Auburn (1 Viewer)

I'm not one of these people who root for the SEC. In fact, as an LSU fan, I am happy that Auburn blew it.

I haven't watched Winston much this year. IMO, he looked awful. No touch throwing the ball, slow release, awful mechanics and unathletic. I know he's young, but if he was entering the draft, I think he doesn't get drafted until the 4th round, and that might be a stretch. The post game stuff about them "jumping on his back" is NOT the way a leader talks after a big win. Leaders give credit to the team, not themselves.

Color me unimpressed...

So, umm, are they going to rebroadcast this game for East Coast old farts that had trouble keeping their eyes open past 11:00?

Winston was 9 of 10 for 117 yards with 2 TDs on final 2 drives. Pretty clutch once he settled down.
He didn't play his best game tonight, but we are witnessing something special with this guy. If he can pull off baseball & football on the pro level it would be bigger than Bo or Deion.
I don't think Winston projects as a Bo or Deion in baseball. This is from a chat with the baseball prospectus scouting guru a couple weeks back:

MonkeyEpoxy (Amarillo): Have you seen Jameis Winston play baseball? He good at it?

Jason Parks: Yeah, he's a stud, as you might imagine. Had a scout say he could develop into a very good late-innings arm out of the 'pen. Check out this throw from RF: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX-1DenR_IQ
Neither Sanders nor Jackson were great major leaguers- they were more about talent and the occasional eye-opening play than steady production- but they were a lot more than just valuable bullpen pieces. Also they didn't play QB, which places special demands on your time. My guess is he gives up on baseball when he leaves school.

Scroll through your guide. I know they are showing it again late morning/early afternoon on one of the non-main ESPN channels, and the "Film Room" version is being shown on ESPN News at 4p today.

 bo was a very good baseball player.
Not really. His career OBP was .289. He had a couple very good seasons, but his peak OPS was .866. He's got an fWAR of 3.1 that year, which is what Alex Rios and Austin Jackson put up last season. And that's his peak performance. His career fWAR is 7.7. Desmond Jennings of the Rays, who I'm guessing many non-baseball fans haven't even heard of, already has accumulated a career fWAR of 8.8 in slightly more than half the plate appearances of Bo.

He was an awesome highlight machine and he probably could've been great if he'd only played baseball, but he wasn't anything special from a production standpoint.

Great game hate to lose though. Flying to Atlanta to drive home rather than risk connecting in Midway. No sleep at all so far. I now remember how it felt catching flights after Vegas trips. One day I'll think of it as a great trip but I'm not the best loser. Congrats to FSU.

Holy ####balls I'm exhausted.

FDAS > sorry for underestimating your team. Crap they are great. ####ty loss and I'm not going to do that "you'll be back" crap because it's patronizing and doesn't fix this. But you're an ibud so I feel for ya.

When Whitfield ran the kick back I almost came my pants. The last 5 minutes were almost too much to take. I don't want to do that again. Seriously. It sucks. Super sucks.

-perfect 14-0 season

-won a legendary memorable title game

-Heisman

-Gators went 4-8

Not going to top this season. Can't think of anything better sports wise.

I'm a proud Florida State alum tonight.

FSU is back! Lets make it back 2 back!

Over/under on Winston's Wonderlic is at 8.
Under

FSU just won the National Championship and SEC haters are turning it into an SEC thread.

:lmao:
Tis kinda funny....

Jay Smith@pastey448m

SEC may not have won but at least we kept the trophy in the South where it belongs.

:lmao: What is next? At least we kept it in America?
 seriously... Civil war was a long time ago fellas...

State of Florida…Univ of FL 3, Florida State 3, and Miami 5 so a total of 11 in the last 30 years for the state of Florida.
:lmao: and then there's this

He struggled and looked awful for much of the game last night. The rest of that is crazy talk though.

Did any of you watch the feed with the coaches and Spielman.....that was pretty cool to watch. Thought that was a really good idea. Would have loved to have had Saban in that room.

I caught some of it. It was nice. I flipped between the 3 feeds (assuming there weren't 20 more out there I didn't see).

I thought it was a good idea for ESPN to explore different ways to broadcast big games. They weren't perfect, but they certainly seem worth exploring.

One thing I've found pretty interesting in the postgame coverage: I haven't seen anyone pitch the "Chris Davis- Hero to Goat" story line. I think that's a great thing- it was just a PI call, guys in the secondary get called for them all the time, and he'd played pretty well until that point. Plus he might have temporarily saved a TD with the interference. But when I saw that flag I was dreading the blowback. Seemed like a ready-made story line. There's probably even some misguided angry Auburn fan tweets out there. Nice that nobody really took the bait on that one.

Football porn. Loved Sumlin and thought Addazio and Chryst were dry but had good insights.

The best part was when FSU ran the kickoff back Millen said guys it's 26-24 do you go for 2 now. They looked at him like he was Matt Millen.

Agree with some of this.

Not sure he's NFL caliber but he's frosh... tough to judge. Easily rattled right now though. Shows flashes of special though (both verbally "special" and on the field "special". 4th round is a stretch, but as of now he doesn't look anywhere near NFL ready.... Like I said though, he's a freshman. I think FSU won in spite of him, not because of him. JMHO.

Interview was horrible.

Great job by FSU pulling it together after digging a hole and getting it done though. Some serious atheletes on that team.

Davis was in coverage on the TD too IIRC.

I knew he'd be a problem, but Spielman surprised me a little bit. He was better on the show than he's ever been in the booth.

We know what you didn't agree with:

You, Jurb and Joe T should get a room and talk about how all your individual teams blow.

Also nice job not plagiarizing anything last night, must have been very difficult for you. Sorry Auburn lost, you'll get'em next year donk.

I think I have to agree with AJ's mom.

http://deadsp.in/MZQSgh8
Well...at least he's good at sports.
Comments are hilarious:

Ignorant? Perhaps. Sweet Brown? Definitely. Today 8:45am
She isn't entirely incorrect. The use of double negatives, improper conjugation of verbs, and lack of grammar is startling for a college student. Today 12:33am
I think it was an honest question because most Alabama fans don't really know what English sounds like. Today 12:32am
lol

The last one is dead on.

:lmao: at Jameis being a 4th rounder.
Sorry. Last night it looked like he played for the first time in his life against a real defense. Didn't run away from anybody that I saw. Looks like his arm is strong, but his mechanics aren't good. Not real accurate throwing it, especially downfield.

I'm not good at deciding where people are gonna be drafted so maybe 4th round is a bit harsh, but I don't see NFL star anywhere close to this guy. Career backup if he's lucky.

Scouts are already saying he understands his progressions like no freshman QB they've ever seen, and makes back-shoulder throws like a 2nd year NFL QB. His mechanics are a work in progress and he has a lot of work to do on pocket awareness, but he's WAY AHEAD of the curve right now. His leadership skills are undeniable, I think he's got a fine future ahead of him.

Also nice job not plagiarizing anything last night, must have been very difficult for you.
I'll take a link to me ever plagiarizing anything

let's see how he ducks this:

• Posts link to baseball forum index

• Posts link to wikipedia homepage

• Makes snide comment but fails to post link to anything

• Goes with the Pick approach and just posts a bunch of rolling smileys

• Changes topic completely because reading speed is not conducive to panning through large amounts of data quickly

• Other...

World Series thread, cut and paste. Whole bunch of it and then when someone asked you a direct question, you couldn't reference the statistics. Clumsy, stupid, and very much you.

ETA: With link and another and then no more stat geek stuff after you couldn't answer GJC and Bruce called you out. Hilarious and inept cut and paste job, everyone knows what a meathead you are so going from  posts to those was a real reach.

Clearly, among other things.

OK, so you tell me, what is he going to be as a pro since you are so smart??

This is why the word "clutch" sucks, imo.

He was throwing little 5 yard hitches that Auburn was happy to give up. Luckily his stud WR broke 2 tackles and turned one of them into a huge gain.

Made a couple of good moves. That was the only time all night. Looks kind of slow to me. Certainly not a Vince Young or Cam Newton in terms of mobility for a big guy.

Looked a little Big Ben like and that's no insult.
