Bears offer 4th-rounder for Lelie (1 Viewer)

Just heard this on NFL radio on Sirius. Do not yet have link. Bears have offered (I assume) a 2007 4th rounder for him. Seems like a good deal for both teams. Anyone remember the original asking price? I think it was a third-rounder. Perhaps the strong-showing of Marhsall at camp makes them think that he is more expendable.

Not only that, this will be a low fourth (20th+), which is closer to a 5th than it is a 3rd.

My guess is that an early-mid 4th wins Lelie.

I think Shanny will let him rot then give him up that cheaply. He's already been fined 150k.

I'm sure Denver laughed in Chicago's face. Reportedly, Denver's already shot down offers of 4th round picks... and Lelie's value has only INCREASED since then.

Shanny has repeatedly said that he wants a first or second round pick, or a front-line starter. He might budge a little, but not much.

Was never really interested in bringing Lelie over, but if the current trend of bad health continues for Bear receivers, it may make sense

Denver will not accept a fourth. Shanny has repeatedly said first day pick or a starter.
Shanny is going be stuck with a very unhappy WR then. Lelie hasn't done anything to justify a first day pick at all.
the market sets the value . . . he has faults, but he is a legit deep threat . . . too many teams have WR issues . . . one will probably give up a 3rd for him; also, Lelie is getting hit in the pocketbook to the tune of $14K per day; he will wise up soon and drag his behind into camp . . .

I'd have a hard time believing anyone would give up a 1st for Lelie. 2nd maybe. He's much more polished than any WR you'd draft in the 2nd round next year. If Denver would take a 3rd, I could see a deal being reached.

:goodposting: That's what I was thinking. When I heard they wanted a 1st rounder for him I started laughing. Just because they got burned by drafting him they want that 1st rounder back. Good luck. Seems stupid and bad business just to let him rot on the bench. They may not be able to get anything for him before too long.

Curious as to how Lelie's value increased? As a Bears fan I believe that we can get the same production from Bradley or Berrian, so I'm glad that Denver turned down the offer.

Id love to agree about Bradley or Berrian but Bradley isnt going to be healthy for the beginning of the season and Berrian has a hard time staying healthy

Anyone think this Mike Bell nonsense might indicate that Shanahan is disappointed with how Dayne/Tatum have worked out, and thus more likely to work something out in a Lelie + ? for TJ?

Who do you cut? Clearly Currie's injury history is troubling so I would assume that he would be cut, but you would also have to decide between Gage and Davis. Gage has looked impressive this far, and Davis has been pretty active on special teams. While I assume the cuts would be Davis and Currie, I see Lelie hindering Bradley and Berrians development and not resulting in much of an upgrade in terms of numbers.

Why would the Bears bother annoying Denver by offering a 4th? From earlier reports they knew Denver wouldn't even consider that kind of deal.

Bears getting bitter their team is falling apart due to injuries or something?

TJ isn't going anywhere for the time being . . . Benson's issues have taken care of that . . .

Ask Brian Finneran. :)The more WRs get injured in the preseason, the more teams are going to develop an interest in Lelie. As the demand rises, so does the cost.

Gage in a landslide. I don't care how that guy has looked. He sucks and will always suck. I'd cut Gage and be a receiver short just to not have to look at that waste of space anymore. He's barely Arena League material. :hot:

Obviously it only takes 1 GM to decide to give what Denver wants but no way would I give anything more than that 4th for a WR who has been a disappointment and wants to get a new contract paying him like a #1. Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought it has been said Lelie wants a new contract with #1 WR money.

Lelie hasn't made any contract demands at all. He doesn't want more money, he wants the #1 WR job handed to him on a silver platter.

He's better rested than he was back then... :D

Is he in his final year of his contract? I think what a team might pay would depend on if they thought they could sign him to a longer contract if he has 1 year left.

iirc, he has 2 years left, but that's really just a vague guess and I'm not at all certain about that.
