Bernie Miklasz of the St Louis Post Dispatch is reporting the Rams/Saints have a deal in place for Michael Bennett. The trade would give the Rams a solid back-up for S.Jackson....does this mean Faulk to retire?

I don't know if it necessarily mean Faulk will retire, but there has been talk that Faulk needs more work done on his knees, and is considering taking '06 off.Whether he comes back in '07 or not remains to be seen. I doubt he'd have much fantasy value if he did, however.

He reported it on his morning radio show,i got the news from a Rams forum (realramsfans.com)...here's the actual post.p.s. this guy is reliable, he doesn't make stuff up.

"Per Bernie on his radio show just minutes ago--

The Rams and New Orleans have a deal in place to bring Michael Bennett to STL as backup to Steven Jackson. Bernie doesn't know the details -- i.e. if it will be a 3rd rounder, 4th rounder exchanged, but the parameters are in place.

The Rams are waiting on the Saints to give the green light right now -- New orleans will not pull the trigger just yet because of some remaining concerns - particularly to make sure Deuce is healthy, etc., they would like to get Bush signed.

But Bennett played under Linehan in Minn. and knows the system. This would be a good signing. It could take some time to get done - but Bernie wishes he could tell us it was a done deal now, but he obviously cannot."

Is there a team Bennett has not been linked to? The only thing that's clear is that New Orleans doesn't want him.

Who?

If this is true, what a coup for the Saints.

In essenct they signed a RB as a free agent and trade him for a 3rd rounder and swap of 4ths.

It might take a while...

St.L Today . com

In need of someone who can help Steven Jackson share the load at running back, the Rams will try to get Michael Bennett from New Orleans, but the Saints won't deal until they are covered at the position. They want to sign No. 1 draft choice Reggie Bush, and they want to make sure that Deuce McAllister is fully recovered from knee surgery.

It's funny when a player signs with a team and is traded that same year. IIRC, that happened to Olandis Gary.
I forgot about that. I think Buffalo did sign him and trade him to Detroit during camp. But I don't think they got a first day pick.

What about will try do you not understand?

Yeah I've heard the rumors of the Rams being interested...I was more focusing on the "have a deal in place" part of the original post.

So the real news here is that we can expect a healthy Deuce if they trade Bennett, and if they hang on to him..

Like Ragone with the Bengals. Got a free pick after picking him up off waivers and then trading him to the Rams (?). :excited:

I'll bet what this likely is is a deal in place contingent upon a few of three things:

1) Bush signs in a timely manner

2) McAllister shows he's ready

3) Faulk doesn't need additional work.

It likely is nothing more at this point though than a verbal deal that both teams have as options.

I'm sure the Rams are exploring other options, but see themselves as the frontrunners for Bennett and also as Bennett being the most compatible to compliment Jackson.

Who else might the Rams be looking for?

Jonathan Wells comes to mind for me...any others?

No, who would the "solid back-up" be?
Third base........
No no, what is the guy's name who is the solid backup RB in St. Louis? :lmao:

Would think that this may happen sooner rather than later now with the news of Marshall. Puts the Saints at an advantage as far as making a deal as Fisher is really the Rams only reliable backup, other teams know this. Any other teams looking at Bennett ? I had heard rumors of the Dolphins.

From what I have read lately on this subject:

a. The Saints will probably not trade Bennett until they sign Bush AND ensure the Deuce is healthy.

b. The Saints want a 3rd rounder (forgot where I saw that but was surprised at how ambitious it is)

The Dolphins, Chiefs, Rams, Texans, & Raiders have all been mentioned, iirc.
