Thanks for the heads up on the Futurebirds and **** Diver--liking both of them.

Not a 2013 album, but I just found it randomly surfing through bandcamp and have been listening to it a lot lately: Broncho's Can't Get Past the Lips

Really short and good album imo with an obvious 70s garage/punk/pop influence. I particularly like the first half of the album, with Try Me Out Sometime as the standout.

Just fired up Kurt Vile on Spotify - "Wakin on a Pretty Day". It doesn't happen often, but I could tell 4 seconds in I was going to like this. I haven't heard another track yet am only a few minutes into this one and the sound reminds me of the band War on Drugs and I like them a lot.

So far, this is great.

Vile was a member of The War on Drugs through their first album

Wow, how about that. Thanks, GB!

The 10 albums I have listened to the most so far.

Local Natives- Hummingbird

FIDLAR-FIDLAR

Parquet Courts- Light Up Gold

The Growlers- Hung at Heart

Phosphorescent- Muchacho

Wavves- Afraid of Heiights

Edwyn Collins- Understated

Kurt Vile- Walkin on a Pretty Daze

Bombino- Nomad

Steve Mason- Monkey Minds in the Devils Time

Cronin and Savages get the zilla endorsement

That MCII might be the best full record yet from anyone in that crew. And Savages is the best thing I've heard by an all-chick band since who knows when

Queens of the Stoneage ...Like Clockwork is shaping up to be amazing, second single released and its just great.

I made a huge rookie mistake and paid attention to the middling reviews of the new Phoenix album and didn't give it a real shot, it's great, pretty close to WAP, imo.

Steve Mason - Monkey Minds in the Devil's Time may end right up there in the top 5 for AOTY for me.

Seen It All Before

good stuff, I hadn't heard about this album but I'll definitely grab it - thanks!

ha - also, while checking out these three tunes you linked earlier today I'm thinking "man this guy's vocals sound a lot like the Beta Band". Then I look him up on Wikipedia and find out there's a reason for that :wall:

Really enjoying this one. Not the most exciting stuff out there, but it hits me right in the sweet spot. Good stoner music and the > 6 minute songs are highly appreciated by me. And yeah, most of the songs sound the same and I'm okay with that. War on Drugs works for me too. Happy with this discovery. Thank you good citizens of the FFA.

The Mavericks' "In Time" comes out this Tuesday. I got the UK version which came out in January. If you don't want to get the whole album, I recommend these songs:Back In Your Arms AgainLiesCome Unto MeAs Long As There's Loving TonightDance In The MoonlightThose are all more upbeat songs. I love their old slow stuff like I Should Have Been True and Missing You, but just can't get into the ballads on this record except for Call Me When You Get To Heaven. The guys will also be on Leno next Friday, March 1. Not sure what they will play, but I would guess Come Unto Me since that's what they played on the Americana awards and the song was also featured on "Nashville."
:moneybag:  :goodposting:

Have to say, thank you for posting about this. Checked it out on Spotify when it came out and liked it. Went to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival ("Jazz Fest" to most of us) and they were playing Friday afternoon at one of the two main stages. Awesome. Just awesome. They were fantastic live. Came right out of the gate with "Back In Your Arms Again" and never looked back. Played for about an hour, but it seemed like 10 minutes in a good way. Just absolutely killed it.

Too bad that when I recorded the three days of AXSTV coverage last weekend, Sunday's 10-hr broadcast pushed Friday's 10-hr broadcast (with The Mavericks) into the permanent crapper due to "space issues". So, when I went to rewatch the set this week, no dice...

Once again - thanks for posting this one here - was glad I checked them out and will look to catch them again next time through the NYC/Phila area.

The new Daft Punk album was leaked and is on Grooveshark.

Different than what I was expecting. I think it'll take a few listens to grow on people, but I'm liking it the more I listen to it.

She Beats by The Beaches

Not AOTY worthy, but it's a good Shoegaze album.

The new Daft Punk album has been better than expected, if I could find a clean version of Giorgio without the monologue it would be one of their best songs, shifts from disco, to funk to techno, to rock in like 5 minutes just great. Lose yourself to dance is also amazing.

Did Daft Punk just get insanely massive between albums? I don't remember them being this big.
Yes.Debstup exploded and then collapsed cause there was maybe a handful of talented artists in the genre, then all the hipsters fell back on house music with Daft Punk being the biggest recipient. M83 and MSTRKRFT got noticeably more popular as well.Synth and Electronica as genres have become much more popular.

I feel like everything is passing me by.

When did MSTRKRFT get big? Because they played at a local university block party here just last year. Though I suppose it's possible they just did it to #### university chicks.

Slowly but surely removing all talent from music, one Pitchfork darling at a time. Don't get me wrong, I get wanting to take ecstasy and dance for 10 hours to grooves that go on and on and on...that was pretty much my life in SF from 1996 to 2000. But let's not confuse this with music.
