Lots of great albums there. A few are from 2012, but good nonetheless.

You have probably heard some Imagine Dragons songs, they had a couple songs in pretty heavy mainstream rotation. It's not my thing, but it's probably the most successful new rock group since Mumford.

Big fan after seeing them live. Kind of a middle America, commercial Jamie T. This album was a 2012 release I think.

 
Surprised to see no mention of Cheatahs in here. Tough to find any info about them, but Allmusic says their "Extended Plays" came out in 2013. "The Swan" might be my favorite song of the year thus far....

.Pretty standard guitar rock that seems like it'd be right in the wheelhouse for a lot of posters here. Kinda garage rock noisy, the kinda stuff I enjoy. Allmusic says RIYL Wavves.

A couple places Ive looked at say Jan 8th release date. Ive heard that single quite a bit on the radio. It would be interesting to see what theyre like live considering all the production on this album.

My favorite album from last year. When My Train Pulls In is one of my favorite songs of the last decade or so.

Im definitely interested to see if his next album is as diverse as Blak & Blu. I think he surprised some people there. His live iTunes session from a few months ago is smoking and sticks mostly with the blues rock songs (and covers).

I really like this Sons of Hippies record. Another case of good band, bad name. More 90's alt rock worship. Girl has a solid cutie pie voice ala Hatfield or Hanley. Some nice drumming too.

I prefer them to Speedy Ortiz.. just better songs IMO. Not as Pavementy. I expect I'll be alone on this.

You may be right. Spotify lists it as 2012 but I see January 2013 a few places.

I thought they were great live. It's just 2 guys, one on the drums and the lead singer plays keyboard, piano and several other instruments. There is a production track running in the background of most songs. But they have a lot of energy and they have a good time. At one point he scaled the light scaffolding above the stage. It looked like the security team was going to have a heart attack. Their stage presence is a lot like Matt and Kim if you've seen them.

yeah, I liked Blak and Blu and will be checking this one out too.

 
John Moreland's In The Throes is freaking awesome - I was looking forward to Isbell's Southeastern, but after hearing both albums I think Moreland's is better. The guy writes incredible songs.

So they have similar sounds I take it? Id be shocked if I liked it more than the Jason Isbell which may end up being my album of the year, Southeastern's a lock for my Top 5 if not. That said, I'll definitely check out John Moreland.

I will usually refrain from posting something negative in here as I don't want to discourage or disparage suggestions, but this was absolutely awful.

If it were an SAT test question:

Twenty One Pilots is to Jamie T as

where the only answer listed would be Apache

yeah, both in the Americana vein. The Isbell album's good, and it has better production and polish, but I feel like JM's stuff is stronger lyrically.

Hard to believe she's so young...she sounds much older. I've enjoyed that record a lot, but the style of music usually isn't my cup of tea.

 
Nobody else here liked Deafheaven? Not my usual style but you guys should give it a listen, they rock hard.
