Best albums of 2015 (1 Viewer)

CHVRCHES album is great, as expected.
Yes. Top 5 of the year so far.

I think this one might be deeper than Bones of What You Believe, though I think Bones had more grabber pure pop hits. There's no "Recover" or "Gun" on this one, I don't think, but the album is top-to-bottom better. And Bones has been like my second most listened to album since 2013, so that's something something.
8/10 so far. Not quite up to their debut, but still pretty darn good, IMO. Clear Blue is by far the best track and there are a few others that really stick out, but unlike you I find to be pretty uneven. We'll see how it listens with more exposure as I certainly will. New running album, for sure.

Now eagerly awaiting the new Avicii album - out Friday, I think.

I think I found Bones to be more uneven because there are some really killer songs on there and the rest just fall a little short. I still love Bones but I find myself skipping tracks or sometimes cutting off nearly the entire second half of the album, and I'm usually a full-album listener. I haven't had that problem with the new one yet.

I agree that "Clearest Blue" is the best song on the album.

You guys need to check out the new debut album from Big Grams, a collaboration between Big Boi and Phantogram. It is super dope.

Listened to Chvrches, New Order and Metric today (synths on synths). Really like Chvrches, parts of New Order - 'Plastic' is amazing and a little bit of Metric - 'Cascades' in particular.

Not sure if the Metric album just isn't good or if it was synth fatigue after the first two.

had the NO album on in the background the other day... didn't hate it.

Mbongwana Star - From Kinshasha

Congolese band. Not in my usual wheelhouse but sounds like outer space on headphones. Getting rave reviews.

:blackdot:

first 20 seconds and I'm in. not sure if this will hold up for me over the whole album, but
ended up cycling through it a couple of times in the background while working. good stuff, but more of a "in-the-mood" thing for me than a regular listen.

Just found Wavves/Cloud Nothings joint album, No Life for Me... part way through, and I'm liking it a lot.
That Wavves/CNs album has held up prettty well for me.

Wavves appear to have a couple new singles out- pretty good as well.
Full Wavves album is out (V)... listened to it once, and pretty much only liked the singles they released earlier. A bit disappointing.. but I'll give it some more listens.

Try it again. I think it's excellent.

In fact, listening to the new Avicii I would say Metric>>>Avicii. Not horribly impressed with what Avicii did this time around on first impression.

Really digging the Metric.

my Spotify "discover weekly" list has a band called Sundara Karma (a couple of EPs)... seems like somebody who took Arcade Fire and evened out a lot of their edge/idiosyncracies and made it more straightforward- for better or worse, depending on what you think of Arcade Fire. first listen... I like it, but find myself missing the quirkiness.

I've found that list to be pretty decent most of the time.

Deafheaven rawks.
I am the complete opposite end of the spectrum of this. I have tried several times, but can barely get through 2 songs before pulling the plug.
It's out of my wheelhouse but the guitars are so good.
love it musically... until they start grawking. greaming? as soon as the guys open their mouths.
Right. It's akin to ####ed Up for me. That aspect can be off putting but I guess it fits both bands.

I'm no metalhead by any stretch. Screaming is usually off putting to me but this album... just wow. I can't stop listening to it. If you can get past the vocals the music is so so good.

Can't get past the vocals. I tried, and like KP, struggled to finish the 2nd song.

A couple months old now, but recently stumbled onto Alina Baraz + Galimatias Urban Flora EP. Really digging it. 8 tracks, kinda like a downtempo ambient R&B feel. Sensual is probably the best way to describe it. Not sure if this is going to be an ongoing partnership or just a one-off....I don't know much about either of them.

Also, for any Beach House fans, they just released a surprise second album, Thank Your Lucky Stars, just two months after releasing Depression Cherry. Apparently the songs were all written in a short time last year and they recorded the album at the same time they recorded Depression Cherry. Could they have two fantastic albums two months apart?

I originally posted some links to the new Coheed album then I realized this was the best albums of thread - if you like Coheed, don't bother. If you don't, #### it give it a shot.

They dropped the concept, and its awful - 10 tracks, 4 bearable ones, one of which made its way into my rotation - just mediocre to poor all the way through. Really sucks as a huge Coheed fan.

Really liking FFS

FranzFerdinandSparks. A very odd combo that just works somehow with very good songs with one being an absolute gem
