Best albums of 2016 (1 Viewer)

Nada Surf's "You Know Who You Are" came out a few weeks ago. Love the last three songs on the LP, including a song called "Gold Sounds." No it's not Pavement. For whatever reason, I'm finding it beautiful on a nice Southern California night.

Linky:

I've been enjoying these albums this year:

Sunflower Bear: Human Ceremony

Allen Stone - Radius (from 2015)

Atlas genius - Intimate Objects (from 2015)

The Bird and the Bear - Recreational love (2015)

Dylan Leblanc - Cautionary Tale

Foals - What Went Down (from 2015)

Cage the Elephant - Tell me I'm pretty (from 2015)

The Staves - if I was (from 2015)

James Hunter Six  - (Hold On)

Bonnie Raitt - Dig in Deep

Lake Street Dive - Side Pony (Got tickets for the Radio City Show in Oct)

Lissie - My Wild West

Santigold - 99c

Tedeschi Trucks - Let me get by

Ray Lamontagne - Ouroboros

In additon still enjoying these from last year:

Adele and Flo and the Machine

Brian Fallon - Painkillers is good. If you like older Gaslight Anthem albums, it's more raw like that (not as punk influenced though, maybe slightly folky) than their more recent (not as good) polished stuff - he's their lead singer.

I've switched to listening to Spotify on my phone while at work because our server and my computer can't handle running spotify. this has made it tougher to easily search and playlist things, so my 2016 has been a bust so far. pretty much have kept it on Savages and Hooton Tennis Club radio streams.

The new White Denim album "Stiff" is really good. Much more consistent than "Corsicana Lemonade" and far more uptempo and soulful.  I wish they'd play a bit more loose like they did on "D" but this is a solid effort.

Joe Bonamassa's new album "Blues of Desperation" came out today.  Nice to finally get some new material!   :P

I know there's a few Joe fans around here....

i have enjoyed the new album by toad and the meatheads called count barfula and the seven dwarves it is a ragay funk album take that to the bank bromigos

Knocking out a few albums on my shortlist this afternoon.

I realize they're pretty anonymous but Night Moves' new one, Pennied Days, isn't too bad.  Pretty similar to their earlier stuff.  Kinda a cross between, like, Smith Westerns and Real Estate.

I've just started listening to it. Not sure what to make out of it so far. Really like Drive and Distant Lonesome Train.

He's using a totally new band with two drummers. At least it's all original material with no covers.

I queued this one up last week after reading a review. Will get to it this week.

Mould's album is the usual collection of strong songs played with conviction.   At this point, he knows what he's doing and you know what you're getting.  If you've liked the last four albums he's released since Blowoff, you'll enjoy Patch the Sky.  Consistency is kind of an un-rock 'n roll value but Mould has produced a body of work (Body of Song) with very few missteps over 35 years.

Yeah it might be getting a little predictable.

Thermals.. eh, OK.  These lame songs like most of their others will sound a lot better live.

Teen - Love Yes

All-female 4-piece that I've been following since I saw them as a random opener years ago.  Indie rock that can't decide whether it wants to be standard pop or some kind of avant-garde thing.  Honestly, this is probably their best album, albeit it's a little scatterbrained.  "Free Time" and "Superhuman" sound like they could be on a mid-80s pop album, "Animal" sounds like something you'd hear from Warpaint.

One of my favorites of the year thus far.

New album means another tour. :confetti:  But I live in a city that loves Mould and it's already sold out. Boo!

The Last Shadow Puppets new one "Everything You've Come to Expect" is a good album. Very "chill", relaxed. When 'Bad Habits' came out as the first single I wasn't a huge fan of it but in the context of the album it's actually a really nice welcome change in pace. I really like 'Aviation', 'Used to Be My Girl', 'The Dream Synopsis' and 'She Does the Woods' as well.

I think it is not as good as either the latest Arctic Monkeys album (AM) or TLSP debut (Age of the Understatement) it makes sense to compare it to both and in that context it suffers a bit, but I still think there's a lot here to like.

Really good release day today - Frightened Rabbit, M83, Parquet Courts, Future of the Left, Tokyo Police Club (EP), Woods etc...
Tokyo Police Club on the undercard of Buffalo's Edgefest on July 31.  For some reason after all these years I've never seen them live.  Rest of the list is decent, standard local favorites City and Colour and Sam Roberts at the top of the bill with Deftones (which one of these 3 is different from the others....?).  Still on the fence with it being a week after Wayhome.

New Woods is another strong entry. They've gone a little jazzy, funky and worldly on this one. It's subtle. Everything I love about them is still there.

Yeasayer - Amen & Goodbye

More accessible than most of their stuff, there's 4 or 5 "singles" on there. Gonna go seem them live in Philly in May.

:excited:

Where have you been?!
Just been around.  Had a period of time where I was busy at work and then just kinda forgot about this place at the expense of being productive.  Now my job has changed and I am back to be being a slacker so I thought I would see what was up around these parts.  How things with you?

Around. I'm not here a whole lot anymore either. Too busy at my dumb job. Good to see you around again

Since my job change in January I seriously have like 5 hours a week of actual work to do, but at least it's a job.  Been wasting time on FanDuel but that goes away in May so I have to find something else to keep me busy.
