Japanese Breakfast - Psychopomp

I'd never heard of them but it came up as recommended for me on Spotify.  Very solid.  Lo-fi indie pop, little shoegazy at times.  I dig it.

RIYL:  Hospitality, Braids

Hinds - Leave Me Alone

Kinda seems like a genre crossover of surf pop and psych rock with a lo-fi feel.  4 women from Madrid.  Somewhat scatterbrained vocals a la Warpaint.  Album has been out for a while but I finally got to it today, definitely enjoying it....saw it hadn't been mentioned in here on a search so figured I'd put in a comment.

RIYL:  Real Estate, Speedy Ortiz, Warpaint
This is a serious dark horse candidate for AOTY for me.  It's grunge garage pop.

When the Tequila runs out we'll be feeling no pain

The new Volbeat album was released a couple of months ago for the rockers that are still around.  It is tough to find a big, newer, rock band these days.  Volbeat is one of a handful of those.  Seal The Deal & Let's Boogie does not have that metal edge of Guitar Gangsters or Beyond Hell but is good rock.  It is very well produced and very commercial sounding.  Volbeat has become radio friendly for sure.  Many of the songs sound similar on Seal but there a handful of standout tracks for me such as The Devil's Bleeding Crown, Seal The Deal, The Bliss, Black Rose, and The Loa's.

Morgan Delt's Phase Zero is good if you like psych rock, pot.
seems like starting last year that psych has been in trend, musically. I've been hearing a bunch of stuff that sounds like it could have been made in the late 60s. the direct rip-offy stuff doesn't really turn my crank, so I haven't been posting any of it here.

huge Volbeat fan here.  took my 11 year old to see them in Detroit a few weeks back.  I've seen them 4 times now and each show you can see the crowd is more and more into them.

anyway, my favorite tracks from this album are Black Rose, Goodbye Forever, a remake of a punk song called 'Rebound', and Let It Burn.  Seal the Deal and Devils Bleeding Crown are nice too.  great album for any people into hard rock these days.

This is a very underrated live band.  I have only seen them once but cannot wait to see them again.  One of the cool things about the live shows is how kid-friendly Volbeat is.  Did your kid go onstage?

No, he is too shy.  They did that a couple years back when I saw them with Five Finger Death Punch.  I told my son before the show that he might get to go onstage but he had no interest.  I was joking but it turns out they still do this, must've had 50 kids on stage for the last song of their encore (Still Counting).

Hey guys, it's been a while. Great to see all the familiar faces here still swapping suggestions. I am extremely out of the loop music-wise, but I feel the urge to get jiggy with it, or something slightly more contemporary perhaps...

Anybody willing to compile a top five list of 2016 things they love? I promise to check out at least half of it.  :hifive:

Hi Nige! After listening to (half of) the Happy Diving record I was thinking Dinosaur Jr. x Japandroids. But maybe that's too simplistic.

So far off of Floppo's list I really like Witching Waves the most. I'd already heard the Parquet Courts record and, while I like those guys a lot, this new one hasn't grabbed me like Sunbathing Animal or Content Nausea did.

Didn't really dig Gotobeds, though they get bonus points for recording a Pavement tribute song that makes me question why I ever liked that band in the first place...

Twin Peaks is a Chicago band that has a good garage pop album out; Down In Heaven. Not sure if they get play outside of Chicago, but worth a listen.

JZ!  :tebow:

I wish I had something to bring to the table in this thread. Everything good I've heard in the last while is definitely pre-'16, and probably actually sucks when it really comes down to it.

That is exactly what I was referring to.  That is a cool experience for the kids when Volbeat invites all the young fans onstage for a song in front of thousands of people.

Wildflower by The Avalanches has a couple of really good interesting tunes, but unfortunately also a bunch of duds.

The new Butch Walker - Stay Gold isn't anything groundbreaking but fans of Gaslight Anthem or Ryan Adams (who produces and plays on the album) should enjoy it as just a very good Springsteen inspired rock album.

Sweet, thanks man. This will keep me busy today.  :headbang:

Witching Waves alone made your list more than worthwhile. Post punky bass riffs, noisy guitars and rock girl vocals, yes please. Really appreciate it. I will work my way to that other stuff for sure.

Does anyone here do the spotify thing? Wanna trade usernames and be bffs?  :oldunsure:

Here's my 2016 mix in its current state

Nice. This is me. My #### is a mess because the wife and kid both use the account from time to time, so don't judge me.  :bag:
Followed you and this is me. This is my 2016 mix which hasn't been updated in a bit. I know I'm following a few other FBG's here, but aside from JZilla, Tasker, Eephus and I think NT, not sure who, as my FBG to real life name skills are lacking.

pill... fwiw- I stumbled onto this playlist a while back. will scratch your post-punk/garage/etc itch for a long time- lots of oldies, plus the guy is constantly adding new stuff.
