Best EDC Knife? (1 Viewer)

Ron Swanson

Been carrying this one for about 10 years and haven't found anything better.  Light, sharp, fast opening, durable, and lifetime warranty. Anyone want to post their favorites?

I have had Spyderco knives for a very long time.  The quality has gone down, but I really like their lightweight knives.

I have the same Kershaw and love it. The kids tease me that I try to look cool when I flick it open and cut open a box, a letter or whatever.

Ron - unless you are on a hunting or fishing trip, why the 24/7 need for a knife?  Is Daniel Boone your neighbor?

I carry a Swiss army knife (tinker I think).  A lot more useful than just a blade.

Well, mostly because I always have, since I was a boy. These days it mostly gets used opening packages from Amazon Prime. But I do use it multiple times a day and just about every day.

My work knife. Tiny and easy to clean.

One thing I will say is that Gerber knives aren’t very sharp out of the box. I ordered a few for other people (so I could get the free shipping) and they all probably need to be sharpened.

I've been using a Kershaw Cryo for a year or so. It's nice. Pretty quick. Was very sharp, though I need to resharpen. I like the clip, and don't think I'd care to carry a knife without a pocket clip.

I had the Kershaw Leek before this benchmade.  I liked the Kershaw, but broke the pointed tip.  I have had the Griptilian for a couple years now and it is still rock solid.  I didn't like how light it felt at first, but, it disappears in your pocket which is nice for EDC.  It is razor sharp and the blade is very durable.  The clip is adjustable and has stayed tight.  I have had a couple Kershaws with flimsy clips that eventually bend too much.

Benchmade makes a good knife.

As a 41 year old guy.. the cumulative number of times I wished I was carrying a random knife in my pocket would not be too far from 0.

What would you use this for?  Are we serious with the "opening letters and boxes" reply above?  You carry a knife just in case you get some pesky mail?

About as useful as the keys in your pocket it seems?

Nice.  I've actually broken the tip on the Leek before as well.  Sent it back and they fixed it, cleaned it, and sharpened it for free. I think I'm going to buy another one and just rotate them through Kershaw occasionally.  That was my impetus for starting this thread was...to see if there was anything else better out there.  I do like that Benchmade.  How is their warranty service and do you ever wish it was part serrated?  The Leek was my first part serrated and I think I would hate not having it.  I do a decent amount of rope cutting on the dock and boat.

I don't carry keys around the house.  I have everything automated so the only keys I have are for my vehicles.  I'm dead serious about the Amazon packages.  Don't really use it for mail. But I also use it regularly for rope cutting, making quick cut bait, trimming/cutting fishing line (especially braid), quick trimming of bushes or mangroves, occasional casual restaurant use (my wife hates this move), and occasionally dispatching a critter. The serrations can also be used in a pinch to strip smaller gauge wire.

I use my knife way more often than my keys or wallet. I also design and make #### for a living so there is that I guess. But even at home I find uses for it pretty regularly.

I have the same knife from Kershaw only with a tanto blade (https://goo.gl/images/fVFJvv).  Outstanding knife, especially after reversing the clip and removing the safety catch.

I carry the SOG key knife (https://goo.gl/images/dhCPbd) instead of the Kershaw simply because it's enough knife for most of my needs on a daily basis.

Self defense reasons.

What kind of critters?

Used to be an archaeologist so I needed a knife often to cut line for test pits.  A knife always comes in handy when you’re in the field.  A fanny pack, not so much.

Speaking of keys, I carry this because it adds no volume and it doesn't add another thing I need to remember to keep. I've got a leek, but truthfully just never need anything more than the keychain knife, which opens boxes, cuts zip ties, and all the silly stuff I use a knife for. I use it every couple days, and am always happy I have it.

I carry a Kershaw Leek as my everyday carry. But.... I am a chef (use it all the time in the kitchen. Breaking down boxes; opening packages; etc) and I live in a ghettoish city (Buffalo). But the chef/owner of the place I work eventually got a nice blade, as well, after seeing me use my knife for a year. Just super useful.

A man should always have a knife, a lighter, and cash on him at all times.

I seriously doubt that I will actually carry it everyday, but the Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight I just bought as a replacement hiking/camping knife is certainly light enough to be an EDC.  I had a very hard time choosing between the Para 3 LW and a Benchmade Bugout.. but I found the Spyderco for $75 and that made my decision for me.   Both are ultralight, made in the USA blades with a ton of good reviews.

I do not carry a knife daily as I am never too far from one.  In my truck I have a k-bar and a buck knife.  Also A filet knife and an ax and a machete. (Also tarp, sleeping bag, lighter, shovel, candles, binoculars, firestick, water purification straw, extra hat, socks and gloves and some cordage.   In my car, a Leatherman tool.    When hunting I will carry the Buck knife, when fishing a Leatherman tool.

Like my Grandpop used to say, "It really don't make no sense to go nowhere without rope and a shovel".

I sometimes go pretty remote without any real pre-notice. I do have a crate in my garage full of full camping and or hunting gear and one also for fishing stuff.  I can get out fast, but there are many times when up in the high country I might have a reason to go off road and in the winter around here, best to be prepared in case one gets stuck or they close the passes.

Grandpop was the same way.  Until he died in prison.
