The Patriots-NYG superbowl comes to mind. I hated the Patriots at the time, and watching the sheer miraculousness of NYG scoring a goahead TD followed by the sadistic thrill of watching Captain America Tom Terrific taking monster hits desperately trying to get the ball downfield only to have the ball sail just out of Moss's fingertips was a therapeutic moment for a Bay Area sports fan. I can enjoy watching Patriots games, now. That's the one. As much as I loved the first two Giants SB wins, I was going absolutely nuts near the end of that game as I did NOT expect them to realistically have a chance. I was quite literally screaming at Coughlin via the TV after the go-ahead TD; my best bud said it was something like "you go into prevent defense I swear to God I'll crawl through that TV and beat you senseless with a boat oar" but I may as well have been speaking in tongues at that point. I had no voice for two days afterwards. Didn't hurtthat I also won my office squares pool. Helluva game.
Definately a classic, but Boise St/Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl is probably the best football game I've ever seen.Add another vote to USC-TEXAS
That's up there.1994 Montana v. Elway on MNF.
That was the most exciting game I've seenLast years NFC Championship in the Super Dome, I doubt I'll ever top that one
I was at this gameBet the under due to horrible weather(it was tough just getting into the stadium) I think GB scored enough to cover it by themselves.Packers at BearsOct. 31, 1994Monday NightHorrible weather - windy and a downpour.Packers had like 80 yards passing and rushed for over 200. Just the funnest game I can ever remember watching.
Is that the game Tiger Greene rode Matt Suhey like Secretariat when they were 10 yards out of bounds?I was at this gameBet the under due to horrible weather(it was tough just getting into the stadium) I think GB scored enough to cover it by themselves.Packers at BearsOct. 31, 1994Monday NightHorrible weather - windy and a downpour.Packers had like 80 yards passing and rushed for over 200. I was at that game in the Orange Bowl (20 yard line) (still have my ticket stub). At one point before halftime the Chargers were up 24-3 (if memory serves me correctly) my Dad turned to me and said we may be leaving early....then Don Strock comes in hit's the hook and lateral before halftime and the rest was history.I could not talk for days (horse from screaming all night) I was 11 years old. I was crying after we lost. I have never cried again at any lost football game. I was so emotionaly invested in that game. It was hands down the greatest game of any sport I have to this day ever seen.Second place would be the 85 Dolphins Bears game. I was there on the 45 yard line near the sideline. Seeing all the 72 Dolphins pacing up and down the sidelines....chills. What a great win for the Dolphins.SDC @ MIA in the play-offs... the "Winslow Bowl"
Totally. What an amazing comeback. And historic collapse.1/23/93 Bills vs OilersEPIC
He also blocked a FG in that game. My No. 1 as well.Count me in for the Fins and Bolts
SD went up 24-0 early. Miami cut it to 24-17 with the infamous hook and lateral to close out the first half. Winslow carried off and returned how many times on his way to a 13-166-1 day? Both QBs over 400 passing yards. Over 1,000 of offense. Decided in OT. Not many games like that one.
Being in the dome that night was like being on a rollercoaster ride that just wouldnt stop, it was awesomeThat was the most exciting game I've seenLast years NFC Championship in the Super Dome, I doubt I'll ever top that one![]()
Yes....this one. Was living in SD and a huge Charger fan at the time.....epic performances on both sides.SDC @ MIA in the play-offs... the "Winslow Bowl"
+1. The Catch.Dallas vs San Fran in the 1982 NFC Championship '81 season. That was an incredible game.
wait a second... i remember that Reich game... but wasn't that the 1993 playoffs? and wasn't it the Bills over the Oilers?1985 Maryland-Miami Frank Reich overcomes Bernie Kosar and a 0-31 halftime deficit
I love how Texas people love their HS football. This has migrated up to OK some and out to Arkansas some, but the most love is far and away in Texas.2010 Texas High School 5A Regional Finals

Its not that they "lost it"; Rather they were simply matched up against better teams in the Super Bowl. A comparison of their point differentials:The 1986 (or year before or after) or 90s Giants were the most fascinating team to watch IMO. I thought Phil Simms was nails as a QB, but he didn't throw much. They had a plodding offense. Little Joe Morris was downright fascinating. Camera views show the D literally couldn't see him behind the big OL at times and ...oh he was something. Mark Bavaro, despite a short short career, is the best TE ever IMO in the sense that some call some RBs best ever with short careers. (I'm fine shifting to Sharpe or someone else, context) I've never seen an NFL player carry four or five defenders on his back and keep running. There has probably never been a better player to characterize the "man among boys" phrase. Their D was awesome, best ever type. Lawrence Taylor by himself was fascinating to watch.
How would the Giants slow offense outscore Montana and the Niners? How great is the Giants D and BB, can they stop the oh so creative and elusive Randall? The Bears were similarly built with an awesome D and plodding O, how would they matchup? Gibbs' Hoggs were awesome and could move any defense, could they move the Gmen's DL of unsung players like Jim Burt and Leonard Marshall? Dexter Manley did his own sack master routine, was blocking LT in practice enough practice or would he be all over Simms all day?
The NFC was loaded then! The AFC got dominated in Super Bowls for years and no one was surprised.
The Bills were stacked. They became the butt of jokes losing four Supes and all, but they were loaded with talent. Player by player, if we could use some modicum like pro bowls or AP voting, they are likely one of the top teams ever. Anyhow, that Supe with wide right was the best game ever IMO. I felt like the Bills walked to the Supe while the Giants went through battle after battle to get there. Such a close game. A top K then kicks it wide right. I have ever since thought the Bills entire history would be different had he made that kick. They really were a real good team that just lost "it" in big games after that.
Can't count b/c the Bucs were stone cold robbed in that game.NFC Championship game 1999/2000 season, St Louis win 11-6 v Tampa, just for that battle between the greatest show on turf and that great Tampa defense.
I moved to Texas from up north. HS Football is king and nothing is remotely close here. The atmosphere is unprecedented on a Friday Night. I still can't grasp the fact I need to buy season tickets for HS football.I love how Texas people love their HS football. This has migrated up to OK some and out to Arkansas some, but the most love is far and away in Texas.I never saw a HS game anything like this growing up in the Northeast. I have relatives all over and (web) friends all over and it is simply not like this in the rest of the US. I enjoy just telling them about it.2010 Texas High School 5A Regional Finals

HS teams with a $100,000 work out bubble is ridiculous. HS teams playing in a stadium that can hold as many fans is insane. HS coaches getting 250k per year salary....
I think, despite Friday night Lights' popularity, there is still a giant portion of America that doesn't believe it exists.
If you are a football fan, you need to take a long weekend from work some time and check out a Texas HS game. It should be on your football bucket list.
I had an uncle coming for a visit. He flew into OKC not Dallas so I got him to come with me to a Jenks game. He lives in Virginia and has a flag on his front lawn every fall that reads "Jenks HS." He had a great time and loves to have people come say Jenks? What's Jenks? just so he can talk about it.
Texan LB Brian Cushing grew up in NJ like me. He's said several times he wants to retire in Texas and live near a HS football field. Even if he's an old man, he wants to be able to catch a Texas HS football game.
Really, this has to be a bucket list item for football fans.
So interesting you wrote this in a best game ever thread. I'm sure it was, just fascinating is all.
Best game ever on TV?
I will never forget watching the San Francisco/Green Bay game where the TO Catch II happened.
Best game in person?
It wasn't the NFL, but hands down the greatest thing these eyes have ever seen was sitting goal line about 10 rows up to the USC/Notre Dame Bush Push game in South Bend back in 2005.
I was @ that game, it was electric, and heartbreaking...Big Husker fanMiami 31 Nebraska 30 - Orange Bowl 1983...Miami storms to a 17-0 lead, Nebraska comes back and then it's 24-17, 24-24, 31-24, then Nebraska on a 4th down IIRC runs it in from about the 20 yard line, 2 point conversion batted away, just an incredible game that marked the beginning of an era in college football for Miami (4 Titles in 9 years) and the state of Florida (15+ of the next 27 would involve UM, FSU, UF).
