Agree….Lynch was a tremendous 80's hair metal player. Love The Hunter. Also love Mr.Scary. That is a romp.George Lynch is my favorite guitar player so I have to list one if his solos. The solo in The Hunter is awesome. Lynch was blazing fast but was also melodic. I'm not comparing his solos to Page, Gilmore, SVH, or even Slash. Those guys are on another level. When it came to the 80's metal sound, Lynch was king to me.
Mark Knopfler, "Sultans of Swing" live version is pretty damn good.
Absolutely fantastic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAkC4awGiJ8In terms of soloing that is not overly dexterous yet fits the song perfectly, is there anything better than Sultans of Swing?

Highway Star by Deep Purple comes to mind.

Would like to see a "best guitar RIFF" thread. She Sells Sanctuary is #1 with a bullet there.
I still think Vito Bratta's solo in White Lion's "Wait" is one of the most musical, best sounding solos ever.
Also like the solo in Def Leppard's "Wasted". I forget which of the guys did the solo.
Good call on Wait. Bratta is another underrated guitar player from that hair band era. Guys like Bratta and Lynch were not taken seriously due to their bands. I have to admit that I do really like a few White Lion songs including Wait.Highway Star by Deep Purple comes to mind.![]()

yeah brohan that was a great right on take that to the bank brochachoThe studio version of McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" has a great guitar solo.

Played every instrument on that track as well.
That's the crazy part. I would argue that's the best guitar playing I've ever seen, and he's not even working hard. Dude is unbelievable.I was watching that video and Knoplfer looks so damn casual, like that was exactly 0 effort for him
Ultimate Classic Rock magazine is on it:Would like to see a "best guitar RIFF" thread. .
Skynard's "Sweet Home Alabama" currently 2:1 over Nugent's "Stranglehold."Ultimate Classic Rock magazine is on it:Would like to see a "best guitar RIFF" thread. .

Either one, much of EC's best work imo was with that band.I was going to say Badge.Cream - White Room
Seriously?my current "best of all time" just because:Picking a "best" is impossible imo. Unless you break it down, somehow.
Most melodic: Knocking on Heaven's Door, Slash (his best work - song is tired but man those solos are back to back to back awesomeness).
Most underated: Purple Rain, Prince
Most buried in drek: Outta My Mind, John Mayer
at the 5:23 mark. :shivers:

I think Free Bird has the best long solo, but my favorite LS guitar song is "The Needle and the Spoon." I love the guitars in it, and there are a couple solos in that song. My favorite solo ever is probably Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower." The late Terry Kath from Chicago doesn't get much love, but he was a fabulous guitar player, and has a great solo in "25 or 6 to 4."Free Bird gets all the Skynyrd love, and its a great solo for the sake of soloing. I think the guitar work in "That Smell" is much better.

He still has the most embarrassing "celebrity" death ever. The late Terry Kath from Chicago doesn't get much love, but he was a fabulous guitar player, and has a great solo in "25 or 6 to 4."
More than David Carradine's autoerotic asphyxiation death? He still has the most embarrassing "celebrity" death ever. The late Terry Kath from Chicago doesn't get much love, but he was a fabulous guitar player, and has a great solo in "25 or 6 to 4."
I don't think so. He had already done the Russian Roulette thing with another gun with no problem. He thought the second gun he picked up was also empty. Stupid and embarrassing but not nearly as bad as Carradine.More than David Carradine's autoerotic asphyxiation death? He still has the most embarrassing "celebrity" death ever. The late Terry Kath from Chicago doesn't get much love, but he was a fabulous guitar player, and has a great solo in "25 or 6 to 4."
I agree. Before anyone mentions it, Mama Cass did not die from choking to death on a ham sandwich.I don't think so. He had already done the Russian Roulette thing with another gun with no problem. True the sandwich that was by the bed was untouched. It was an on scene coroner who started that rumor unintentionally when asked for an immediate cause of death. The real cause was her heart muscle. The constant weight yo-yo had weakened her heart to the point it just failed.I agree. Before anyone mentions it, Mama Cass did not die from choking to death on a ham sandwich.I don't think so. Pearl Jams early early stuff (Ten in particular) has some incredible emotional guitar playing. I agree about Yellow Ledbetter....great solo indeed.Mike McCready is a vastly underrrated guitarist. His work with Temple of the Dog....is legendary.I always think of Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam
Mccready is as good as anyone who has ever picked up an axe when it comes to making his instrument speak. They call him the "master of animal sounds". Porch, garden, even flow, deep... Ten is a ####### clinic when it comes to using the guitar to elevate the songs meaning.Texas flood would be my throw in for SRV. I hate that he's gone but love that he left behind a good bit of work for us to enjoy.some good picks in here. shine on you crazy diamond is probably my favorite, but someone needs to mention SRV...Texas Flood, maybe.
and McCready is very underrated.

Sick indeed. That version is so good, you could make an argument that the intro solo OR the solo in the middle are the best of all time. That lick from 1:37-1:45 is just ridiculous.satch said:Mark Knopfler, "Sultans of Swing" live version is pretty damn good.Absolutely fantastic:In terms of soloing that is not overly dexterous yet fits the song perfectly, is there anything better than Sultans of Swing?
