Best in-season waiver wire pickups of the past few years? (2 Viewers)

I'm trying to recall who some of the best in-season pickups have been the past few years. I'm not talking about guys who made a lot of noise in training camp and preseason and were taken in most late drafts (like Slaton, James Davis, etc.). Cassel, Colston, MJD and Boldin all come to mind. Anyone else?

Boldin, MJD, and Colston in their respective rookie seasons are all good examples...

Ryan Grant in '07, probably helped a lot of teams win chamionships.

Samkon Gado in '06, or '05, don't remember.

Reuben Droughns in '04.

In IDP league's Barrett Ruud kind of came out of nowhere in '07... He was on people's radar going into the season, mostly because he was starting, but I'm sure was sitting on a lot of waiver wires entering the season.

TD was named the starting RB pretty early in preseason, so I doubt he went undrafted in too many leagues... I could be wrong, though, I wasn't playing fantasy football back then.

Billy Volek is the all-time MVP
Of course you have to throw in Drew Bennett as well...
Yeah, but I think Drew might have been rostered already in a few leagues. No one had Volek, then the fantasy playoffs come and he's throwing for 400 yards a game. A playoff wildcard picking him up would have had like 35+ fp per game and easily rolled to the championship.

Love me some 07 Ryan Grant.Marion Barber and Brandon Jacobs also come to mind

Was there much hype surrounding Antonio Gates entering his breakout season ('04)?
Not too much. In fact, I traded Boo Williams and an RB (Willie Green, I think) for him because of a TE by week issue. It was a dynasty league - I still have him :-)Colston was mentioned, but Cotchery also broke out that same week (I remember going back and forth on which one to try to claim - I liked Colston becuase of his size).

LJ in '04 probably helped a few teams win championships as well... He may have been rostered in a few leagues, but IIRC, he was only third on the depth chart and didn't take over as the primary ball carrier until a couple of games after Priest went down... Almost 900 total yards and 11 TDs, almost all in the last 8 games, is not too shabby for a midseason pickup.

ETA: I think initially Blaylock was the guy who replaced Priest until it became obvious that LJ was better.

1998 Randall Cunningham

1999 Marcus Robinson

1999 Stephen Davis

1999 Kurt Warner

2003 Anquan Boldin

1999 was a good year for the waiver wire. I am sure more will come to me...

Ryan Grant. Absolutely. No way that any FF player predicted this. Without the trade to Green Bay, he'd be sitting behind all those RBs in New York.

I picked Betts a few years ago a couple weeks before Portis went down. Finished the season a real stud and got me a Super Bowl.

It was ten years ago but Kurt Warner probably was the best WW pickup ever.
I actually drafted him late in 2 of my 3 leagues that year. The only league I didn't draft him was a league I had with a partner. Due to the unique scoring that gave insane bonuses to QBs, that pick alone would have won us the league. I still remind my former FFL partner of that.

Two years ago Farve and Ryan Grant- Championship

Last year- Deangelo Williams and Tyler Thigpen and Schaub QB carosel- Championship #2

same league. This year #3 (Hoping)

I remember back ten years ago when Patrick Jeffers of the Carolina Panthers got really hot. He carried a lot of teams to their Fantasy Super Bowls. Kid was nearly unstoppable.
