Best LT in football (1 Viewer)

In the eyes of NFL historians and those who really know the game, LT is by far considered the best LB ever and in the eyes of many the greatest defensive player ever.
**** Butkus down?
One of the all time greats. Top 5 for sure. But when the "best ever LB" question comes around, it seems that the consensus choice is LT. That is not taking away from anyone else. It is not saying Stan Musial, or Joe D or Ted Williams werent unbelivable all-time greats... but Babe was still the consensus best ever.

McNeill has no holding penalties, no sacks against and LT has scored 19 of his 26 rushing TD's to his side. He's done this all with two broken hands as a rookie. If he's not the best he's one of them.
I did notice that when ESPN ran every one of his TDs this year, most of the them were left. Those stats are amazing.

I'd bet anything that the consensus among people aged 50 and over is Butkus, and that the consensus among those aged 30--45 is Taylor. I don't know how the 45--50-year-olds would vote, nor do I know how the under-30 crowd would lean.

Interesting... maybe I need to change my position. Whenever I hear the discussion, including amongst NFL people, writers etc (ie not just me and my idiot friends) it is LT, without question.

The mere fact that you hear the discussion proves you wrong. Ever hear any discussion about who was the best WR? Not very often. And the reason is obvious: Rice has put an end to the discussion. Taylor was great and deserves to be in the discussion, but he obviously didn't end the discussion.

I hear the discussion of the best LBs ever, and you have a few in that discussion. However, it had seemed to me (perhaps mistakenly) that the overwhelming (not unanimous) conclussion has been that LT was the best ever, as great as the others were.

This was about to be my next post. I think the 45-50 year old crowd would be partial to Ham or Lambert, and certainly all of Pittsburgh would. The under-30 crowd might lean towards Ray-Ray or Seau or Brooks or even Derrick Thomas. You should check out Bill Belichick's book; he's got an interesting topic on Taylor. From what I gather, he wasn't a big fan of his. I'm sure to a coach like BB, LT was incredibly frustrating to deal with. That being said, LT certainly benefitted from playing alongside another HOF LB, three other LBs who would make the Pro Bowl (Van Pelt, Banks, Johnson), and two HOF coaches. Certainly, it's hard to argue that BB gets the most out of his 'backers.

The Bears O\/\/ned Lawrence Taylor back in the day. He was about as effective at Lavar Arrington has been lately.

Lawrence Tynes is in the 'Best LT in football' conversation after that kick he just banked in.
