Big change in Madden 2010 (1 Viewer)

I actually like it. I think it will make it more realistic and challenging. Madden is and has been too easy. Especially for the Franchise Mode. I don't play the games too often but every now and then when work is slow I'll sim through some seasons until my team becomes too good then I get bored with it. I'm glad to see it become more difficult.

sounds like they actually made it worse than it was
<rant>That has been the pattern. Over the last few years this game has had an amazing ability to actually get worse with every release. I finally gave up on EA's product last year (didn't buy the favre cover). Since they got the monopoly on the NFL, it seems the product has been on a constant state of decline to the point of unbearability. I haven't seen the new game but at this point I'm obviously skeptical. This is extremely ittitating because its not just another game. This is football! I really want a good football game!!! </rant>

Wow so Madden is actually going to fix something that has been broken for how many seasons?

Color me suprised.

so if all players get a drop in ratings, how does that change anything?

 The worst thing to happen was the demise of the 2k NFL games. Whether you were a 2k fan, or a Madden fan, the competition was good for everyone. It was funny how many Madden fanboys at the time couldn't see that and thought it was a good thing.

5 years later, and you 2K fanboys still can't let go.

Or he sees how competition is a good thing and helps push both sides to create a better product. This is why monopolies are frowned upon. EA has zero incentive to improve Madden since the same idiots rush out to buy it every year and then complain about it, then go buy the new one. Rinse and repeat.

very :goodposting: I've never baught a 2k football game in my life, but it is better for consumers if there is legitimate competition as it forces producers to increase their quality, or lower the price of their product. In a monopoly, EA can do whatever the #### it wants. In this case it doesn't want to do anything.

I was a 2K guy, but I would have been upset to see Madden go away, for the very reasons others have hit upon.

IMO, most of the Madden players should be rated between 50-65 OVR, with standout guys being in the 70-80 range. Guys that are 90+ would be your Hall-of-Fame kind of guys. Of course, those 90+ guys would then be rare commodities, just like in the real NFL. Play 5 or 6 seasons of Madden and you'll have top-rated players coming out of the woodwork.

That's mostly a problem because they game "progresses" players too quickly. I think there's somewhere around 3 progression points in a season. Plus additional ones in the playoffs if you make it there. There are ways to work around this on the PC versions, but nothing for the consoles.

Considering there is no PC version, i'm not too sure how you would go about doing that.

I meant the previous PC versions.

The ratings system is not the problem. The problem is the gameplay. How EA gets NCAA so right and Madden so wrong baffles me every year. And I bet you we will still see players that we haven't heard of for two years like Al Wilson pop up and be an 88. Its stupid.

couldn't this be resolved with a simple roster update? just make it available for d/l and quit treating it like a revelation?

EA knows how to play the system. This has to be the lowest-cost "tweak" they've ever done. And they'll still hype it as something great and it will sell a ton. "Hey, we'll make the players play worse. Buy this one for sure!"

Personally, I buy Madden and NCAA in alternate years, two years behind the current product. So the games cost maybe $10 (sometimes less) and EA doesn't make a penny. I'll let you know how I like the new changes when Madden 2012 comes out.

do you really think they are sitting around smoking cigars going "hehe - we fooled em again'I wouldn't hesitate to call them inept or not good at it - but ignoring what makes them lots of $$ - cmon - those conspiracy theories are silly. Im not a gamer per se - i sit down and play it for fun once in a blue moon and it seems fine - it entertains me when Im lazy.

If it's not good - it's not good because they have the wrong people telling them what to do to improve it.

And yes - $10 for Madden 2008 or so is a much better deal than a $60 Madden 2010 or whatever.

It's not a conspiracy theory that EA Sports doesn't work hard on improving Madden, its fact. The gameplay is totally messed. It takes 5 minutes of playing in practice mode to realize it. And its been like this for as long as i can remember, which is at least the last 4-5 years.
