Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

Good test for the Boilers at UW as they only made three 3s (none in the first half) after making 19 against Nebraska. Found a way to tough it out and now on to Eugene!

Turned on the end of that game last night after getting home from the WBB game here in Eugene. Sure sounded like a lot of Purdue fans in the house. The Purdue players sure seemed to be getting into it with the UW fans those last few minutes, is that normal for them or a response to things the FUsky fans were doing?
I think they were interacting with Purdue fans...there was a of them there.

Yeah that wasn't throwing any shade at your guys, in fact one of my favorite sports moments is Payton Pritchard hitting a game winning three in OT up there and yelling at their fans "This is my city!"

It's been fun having the B1G fans coming to Eugene, as annoying as it can be when it's not going well for the Ducks (like the Illinois debacle). Those alumni bases are just so large that they have fans everywhere, including within a few hour drive of Eugene apparently!

My Purdue diploma is dated 1983 so those west coast tipoff times are not cool.
I was a freshman in 1987...but I've been out on the west coast for almost 9 years. This has been great for B10 fans out here. Finally.

University of Wisconsin graduate Dec 1981. SF resident since Jan 1982. Never looked back after discovering winter was optional.

I like Big Ten after dark but wish Bill Walton was still around to pontificate on it.

I guess the good thing about being old now is that I got to see the Rick Mount college days, the Bill Walton college days, etc.

Nostalgia aside, the on-court product is much better today. College games of that era have no clock, no dunks and not a lot of shooting. There's a lot of dribbling on the perimeter (which is only around 20' from the hoop) with defenses sagging to prevent the ball from getting into the post.

Of course, there's not a lot to be nostalgic about when it comes to Badger basketball of the 70s.

Rough loss for Michigan. I didn't watch the game, but looking at the stat sheet I don't know how they lost.... More TOs but points off were equal and they shot better from 3. Wolf really can't keep having 6 TOs a game though....

Terrible second half for the Ducks. Couldn’t make a three but decided to keep shooting them, couldn’t get a rebound, and turned the ball over repeatedly. I don’t think Purdue played particularly well and they essentially ran away with it.
Especially fun to watch our big transfer wing starter TJ Bamba be openly mocked and dared to shoot, repeatedly. And he just kept missing. What a portal whiff, that dude is straight up unplayable.
Dana is going to have to find a new rubiks cube to align, the starting lineup he has just doesn’t work.
And how the hell did we beat Alabama?

I just don't understand this team. They make turnovers that only bad high school teams make, go on huge scoring droughts, give up countless offensive rebounds. I have no idea how they only have 3 losses.

Yeah they were a total mess yesterday. Horrible execution. Most frustrating decent Duck squad in a while. Although I feel like I’ve said that 3-4 times in the last decade.
There’s an Elite Eight level team in there somewhere, with a solid stretch five and a good pg who can create his own shot as the core. But they won’t reach their potential unless they can get consistent contributions from Bamba and Angel.

Ohio St did just about everything they possibly could do to throw the game away at the end but somehow managed to hold on and get a huge win in West Lafayette.
didn't see the game because no Peacock. Was scoreboard watching and thought they had it in the bag after the first half. Checked back and couldn't believe it. I honestly can't tell how Purdue lost this one looking at the box score beside Smith being 3 - 14 from the field. Horrible loss.

Ohio St. had three bad turnovers in the last two minutes that all seemed like potential game-changers, and there was an uncalled but blatant dead ball foul on a push near the end that also could have changed the outcome. Shocking for me in that I'm so used to Purdue being ruthless at Mackey.

Yea...i just watched Painter's post game interview. Sounds like like a lot of missed opportunities they usually capitalize on. 3 or 4 missed shots around the rim down the stretch. Oh well.

Bigtime much needed Q1 win.
Oregon was on the flip side of that against the FUskies at MKA last night - avoiding a bad Q3 loss. This Oregon squad seems to struggle with physical play, and that proved true in the first half again last night. I'll say it, they're just soft.

Strange game in that the two best players this year, Bittle and Shelstad, were totally ineffective last night while the struggling transfer starters, Bamba and Angel, had big games. And Supreme Cook, one of the only dudes who definitely ain't soft, had a nice game as well.

As I've said before the talent is there across the roster, but they still haven't put it all together very often.

And it was the definition of a Bad Beat! 12 1/2 point spread. Ducks pull away late but aren't covering until they hit a meaningless three at the shot clock buzzer with 17 seconds left to go up 14. Then UW dribbles down and hits a three 5 seconds later to knock it back down to 11. Game over.

Ivisic out for the Illini tonight vs. MD
MD absolutely ate in the paint with no Tomi in the middle.

62 (!) points in the paint for MD. Believe I read an insane 42 of their first 46 points were in the paint. Didn't even hit their first 3 until 12 minutes left.

A butt whipping. Won by 21 and didn't really even feel that close. MD dominated first half too before late Illini run cut the halftime deficit to 3.

Thankfully only for one year. ;)

Well - I said previously that I didn’t think M was a big ten championship contender. They are now 4-0 with road wins at WI, USC, and UCLA. Hard to say they aren’t contenders now.

Since I wrote this, Michigan has sucked.

So I take it back. MI is a bubble team.

That was a huge win for Maryland. Their 1st true road win, and they've beaten Illinois (who will probably remain ranked all year) twice.

I agree that Illinois not having their big guy was a huge factor. But Queen and Reese are a handful for any team, full strength or not.

Maryland wins another conference road game in an insane last couple of minutes at Indiana. I thought both teams were done about 17 times in the second half.

Man did they even know what the play was that was drawn up? Every IU player was super confused.

Also they had a foul to give why didn’t IU foul?

Ridiculous.

Woodson is a dead man walking

Ducks are still soft. Our center and leading scorer put up a big fat zero points. What a bad loss.

As I’ve said, this is the most frustrating and inconsistent decent team I’ve ever seen. They could play themselves from a projected three seed all the way down to the bubble, or they could go on a run and be a Sweet 16 team. I have no idea. The talent is there, but as per usual Dana hasn’t figured it out yet in January. We’ll see if he can align this dysfunctional Rubik’s Cube as we get into February.

8 Quad 1 wins is pretty good. Only Auburn with 11 has more.

Yup, as frustrating as they've been this year at times, the resume is still pretty good. 16-4 overall and 8-2 versus Quad 1, with those two losses against the current #9 and #10 teams in the Net. Have wins against the current #7 and #12 teams, both at a neutral site. 7-0 against Q3 and Q4, so no horrible losses (yet).

That said, we're sitting at #27 in the Net. And it doesn't get any easier with games against the current Net #17, #18, and #20 all on the road in February.

Top scorer only scored 12 and State wins by 22.
13 straight wins. Tough West Coast trip coming up, then the Ducks @ the Brez.

Big problem right now in the State with Avian flu killing all the waterfowl in Michigan. Not kidding...

What's going on with Oregon and Illinois?

One thing I think is that Nebraska and UCLA are much better than most people expect, especially at home. I don't know how Oregon lost to Minnesota, but the Gophers also beat Michigan so maybe aren't quite as bad as they seem. I'm enjoying Big Ten basketball this season, although I could only watch the first half of the west coast game last night. No idea how many B10 teams will get in the tournament but I think there are going to be a couple good teams left out.
