Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (5 Viewers)

Iowa sucked Maryland into a "hey, let's not play defense" game in the first half. Maryland played defense in the second half and Iowa continued not to (they also couldn't shoot).

Remaining schedule:

USC
MSU
@PSU
@UM

All winnable games, but could just as easily lose a couple. This stretch is the difference between a 3/4 seed and a 6/7 seed.

I'm hoping 3-2. It would be nice if they can get into a double-bye for the B1GT, though.

MD has a great schedule remaining and I could see them moving up considerably in the tourney seeding

Is it the top 4 that get double byes?

yes: https://assets.contentstack.io/v3/a...796742f4f6666/2025_MBB_Tournament_Bracket.pdf

Also, the bottom 3 teams don't get an invite.

Yea, but I'm talking NCAA tourney

Oh, I know. I'm a one tourney-at-a-time guy

As for the NCAAs, I've seen MD stuck on the 8 line for like a month (usually vs Auburn or Bama) by the experts. I want them off of that sucker.

Rutgers is a weird watch. Two lottery picks but the team stinks. That was the first time I’ve watched an entire game of theirs, is it just coaching malpractice? I mean it was pretty obvious they only have 6-7 good athletes and then their bench drops off considerably, and they don’t really seem to have a good PG. But still seems weird that beating them only gives you a Q2 win.

Good to see the Ducks play with effort on D again last night and move the ball on O, and Shelstad was obviously fired up playing against those dudes.

#Illini big man Morez Johnson Jr. is OUT indefinitely with a broken wrist, per Brad Underwood. Happened on the fall after his incredible two-hand block on Saturday.

I think it disrupts a program that isn't used to dealing with 1-and-dones like duke and Kentucky. He runs a good program, but needs consistency from players to adapt. Agree that they look like a mess with all of the talent.

Yeah we’ve had a few one and dones. None of them have worked out very well for the Ducks.

Although the 12 games of the Bol Bol era was a hell of a time.

Nice game, Sparty! That's a big one.
This "team" is so fun to watch, especially Coen Carr.. But how can Booker look so lost when he's out there?
Yea, he's regressed this year. May be the issue that Kohler and Cooper have surpassed him by so much this season. He's so raw. The talent is there. Sometime I wonder if the staff isnt doing their jobs bringing these kid's skills on board with enough emphasis. I hope he sticks around because State will need him.

Congrats. If there is any other team I root for in the BT, it's MSU.

Glad I wasn't able to watch. This team is in trouble. Can't turn anyone over now and no one else is stepping up on offense. Turnovers were a problem last night and I have no idea how this team will finish the season or do in the post season. Anything positive is a bonus. I'll have to look it to see when the last time Purdue lost three conference games in a row.

Purdue seems to be in a free fall. I believe I heard on the broadcast they’ve not lost 3 straight for something like 20 years. Illinois is terrible with Johnson out. UCLA was on an impressive run before blowing a big lead at home to the lowly Gophers late last night. Wisconsin keeps winning but I still don’t trust them. It’s another crazy Big Ten season and I’m loving it. Peacock and the BigTen Network are good value this winter.

It's really weird seeing Wisconsin score a ton of points and have the best offense in the Big Ten.

Wait ... Wisconsin?

I've only seen a few of their games, but they've impressed me in all of those I've watched. That's a good team.

I saw the UCLA coach complaining about travel schedules earlier this season. It's always going to be tough to play on the road in the Big Ten but it really is crazy now that the conference stretches from coast to coast. Maybe that gives the Midwest schools a small advantage. Oregon is playing tonight in Iowa. I'm not sure their travel plans but they have to be in Madison for an 11:00 a.m. tip Saturday morning. If one or both of those games were on the east coast they'd sure just stay out there. Wisconsin did that earlier this season for games at USC followed by UCLA. It's like an NBA west coast road trip.

The Terps ran out to a 18-5 lead to start the game, and outscored USC 15-5 to start the second half. That was basically the game. Maryland got sloppy after those two big runs, missing a dunk, a few layups, and turning the ball over. Once again, the starters did all of the scoring (all but 3 points, I think).

Maryland's had issues filling the gym. I can kind of understand the general public being hesitant - I don't think most understand how good the Terps are and D.C. is a fickle sports town (a lot of people from elsewhere) on the best of days (other than the Commanders) - but they weren't filling the student section, either. Last night, it seemed better.

That place should be packed next Wednesday when MSU comes in. That should be a fun one.

If only they had conferences to help reduce the travel.

It all started going to hell in 1990 when we let Penn St. join.

Bring back the University of Chicago Maroons

1st Place Baby. Excellent way to start the weekend by beating the skunk bears on their home court.
GOGREEN!

Michigan does not have a point guard that can play. MSU had better guard play. Holliman beat his season scoring average of 8.5 in a 60 second span and what was a one possession game the whole time was all of a sudden a 9 point lead and game over.

Announcers before the game said MSU is one of the worst 3 point teams in the BIG. Did not seem that way last night.

They are one of the worst, but they were on last night. Very timely. Was happy to see it.

UM has zero bench scoring too. That was a big difference as well.

Ugh. Michigan got their butts kicked in the second half last night. That’s depressing. Sparty played great. Surprisingly shot really well. Maybe we can get em in EL.

Overtime in Madison after a furious Oregon comeback and the Badgers forgetting how to inbound the ball.
What a win on the road! Ducks down 17 in the second after another lackluster first half, and then pulled their heads out of their butts and started playing hard. Wisconsin seemed to mentally check out as well, or we wouldn’t have gotten all the way back into it. Win probability was 98.5% with six minutes left and 93% with 17 seconds left.

Shelstad struggled a bit again after having zero FGs in the last game, but huge deep 3 to send it to OT.

Well shoot. I thought the Boilers had this one. Kaufman-Renn had his normal great game until fouling out. Smith started the game on fire but went on a long dry stretch then started hitting but too little too late. And Caleb Furst you are the weakest link.
Good game Michigan.
I'd say that zero bench points and Colvin and Heide are the weakest links. These two have really made no improvements and they are the two biggest keys, besides the core, in order for this team to have a chance.
Heide and especially Colvin are contributing so far today. Glad to see it on the 40th anniversary of the chair toss game.
Physical game as always, lots of contact and bodies on the floor- like they’re playing for the Oaken Bucket.
