Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (10 Viewers)

I think Minnesota is definitely trending up with Pitino taking over. Despite the loss to Arkansas, they look completely revitalized.

2013 BigTen/ACC Challenge

The Big Ten hasn't lost this challenge since 2008, and I certainly don't see any change in that this year.

Wisconsin at Virginia = Wisconsin

Miami at Nebraska = Nebraska

Boston College at Purdue = Boston College

North Carolina at Michigan State = Michigan State

Northwestern at North Carolina State = North Carolina State

Maryland at Ohio State = Ohio State

Michigan at Duke = Duke

Florida State at Minnesota = Minnesota

Notre Dame at Iowa = Iowa

Penn State at Pittsburgh = Pittsburgh

Illinois at Georgia Tech = Illinois

Indiana at Syracuse = Syracuse

7-5 Big Ten

Wisconsin at Virginia = Wisconsin
I hope you have this one penciled in. Tony Bennett has that Virginia team in a good spot and they won in Madison last year. Bucky has played some good ball so far this year but their only real road test was @ UW Green Bay, with a lot of red in the crowd.

I'm not calling a loss but I'd probably be more confident about them beating Marquette this weekend than the Wahoos

Yeah I don't think people know Virginia is actually good this year. But I think the Badgers are very good this year even though they're the devil. I have this one as 37-36 Badgers.

We should probably alter the thread title just slightly. :oldunsure: What I've witnessed the last few days is a major decline from last year's teams. Most will get better as the season goes, but as it is right now, these teams aren't playing well.

Pretty painful week.

MSU looked like the walking wounded last night GB...what the heck is going on up there?! Between the flu, cramps, ankles etc it was turning into a war of attrition within the MSU team.

And on top of that, they just plain looked like crap. Too many quick, pull-up (missed) jumpers in transition, way too lazy on the boards, awful passing. Hate to be at practice today... Izzo is gonna run them ragged.

They are off for 9 days. Izzo will run the living #### outta these guys in the meantime. Granted, there were some injuries. That was a terrible showing last night.

Update from EL today: Gary Harris out indefinitely.

I disagree completely. The ACC doesn't send the worst three teams in their conference every year, while the BigTen sends every member. The ACC still hasn't won since 2008 and they never include their weakest members.

I'm really impressed with the Hawkeyes so far. Their only loss against Villanova who also beat Kansas. Villanova was draining 3pts like they were nothing that game against Iowa and Iowa still almost pulled out the win. The Hawkeyes are very deep this year.

You do know this is the first year for the expanded ACC, right?

This isn't about the ACC vs B1G challenge....it's about the play of the teams overall.

Our Badgers are 10-0 with a top 5 RPI

How does Crean get all of these stud players yet no shooter? There are plenty of these available in Indiana alone. Teams should play zone exclusively against them.

So, in 2011 and 2012 (the ACC lost both times), they did. Prior to that they still excluded their worst team.

2006 - Wake Forest did not play due its last place finish in the ACC during the 2005-2006 season.

2007 - Miami did not play due to its last place finish in the ACC during the 2006-2007 season.

2008 - North Carolina State did not play due to its last place finish in the ACC during the 2007–2008 season.

2009 - Georgia Tech did not play due to its last place finish in the ACC during the 2008–2009 season.

2010 - Miami did not play due to its last place finish in the ACC during the 2009–2010 season.

2011 - All teams.

2012 - All teams.

2013 - Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest did not play due to all three teams finishing at the bottom in the ACC during the 2012–2013 season.

You are right it is more glaring with the recent expansion, but always a slight edge to pull your absolute worst team out.

James Blackmon Jr. is going to help tremendously next year. Best pure shooter I have seen in a long time.

Iowa vs Iowa State will be very fun to watch on Friday. That's a tough place for anyone to play on the road, but I would imagine especially hard with the in state rivalry.

Apparently, Maurice Creek would be a nice player on this year's team. He has been awfully efficient at GW this year.

Really happy to see him doing well. Great kid. I still remember him scoring 31 points against Kentucky as a freshman.

Did you catch his game winning shot against Maryland last weekend?

That win over Florida is looking more impressive by the minute...

Didn't see the game, just the highlight. I definitely hope he does very well this year.

I am looking forward to that game. It would be a big win for Iowa.

Have to root for that guy.

Saw the Gophers in person for the first time last night....ouch. They are sorely missing a physical inside presence.

They look decent when they can play up tempo, but I don't think they are going to take much advantage of that in the regular season, the competition will be too good. It's going to be a long season for them.

Gotta love Pitino's honesty so far though. On the post game show, while trying to talk up his team he added "well, it's not like we're going to a final four or anything this season."

Where did that beast they had last year go? The guy looked like a NBA player whenever I saw them play.

According to Wikipedia, he's playing in Italy. He was a beast in college, but all of his injuries ruined his athleticism. He was only 6' 8", so undersized as a power forward, and not athletic enough anymore. His offensive game was too limited. All he could do was rebound and dunk over smaller/skinnier guys.

Other than the jumpshot he added out to about 16-18 for his senior year and a couple new post moves, as well as his athleticism back midway through last season.

His senior year? Guy should have dominated fools in sophomore year. It's ok to say that a prospect missed.

The Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis this year has some interesting matchups.

Notre Dame is pretty much the last real non-conference challenge Indiana has this year.

Purdue gets a chance to prove they have moved past their early season struggles in what should be a closely contested game against Butler.

I think Indiana will handle Notre Dame without much trouble, and Purdue has a really good chance to upset Butler.

UM is giving Zona a run here. UM could be a real threat as the year goes on, they are still one of the youngest teams in the country.

Bummed about the result, but given what I have read about us I liked what I saw in first watch of the year. GRIII still just as frustrating as last year.

The team is really talented, but just so young, the team lives and does by sophomores and freshmen. If they improve and gel over the season, they could be a top 10 team by February.

Indiana going to have a rough go this year in Big10, way too many Freshmen on that squad. If you gave me .500 in conference right now I'd be all over that.

I agree. The best thing they can do for the future is get the freshmen as much experience as possible. Sheehey should return to his sixth man role.

It is not necessarily the "worst team" being pulled out as each year is a new year. The year Miami was pulled out, they went 23-11 and finished 5th in the ACC. Just b/c they were bad the year before does not mean they were the "worst" a year later.

Oh and the ACC did not lose in 2012. It was a 6-6 tie.

Big win for Michigan on the road at Minnesota last night.

Its going to be a struggle without McGary. And last night, GR3 went down early in the second half. Good win.
