Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

Wisconsin hasn't finished out of the top 4 in like 15 years or something.  All streaks end eventually, but I'll believe it when I see it.

The Badgers showed some resiliency in coming from way back to give Baylor a game.  I don't know how much of that was just Baylor's shots falling in the first half and not the second.  On offense, they move the ball around well in typical Bucky fashion and were able to deal with Baylor's zone.  Freshman Brad Davison looks like he'll be a contributor this season.

Wisconsin still needs to find a reliable second option after Happ.  Baylor was a tough matchup but they killed Wisconsin on the boards and around the hoop.
OK, I'm officially...concerned

I'm not too concerned about two close non-conference games against quality opponents.   Other than beating Marquette, the season starts on Jan 2nd.  There's a lot to work on but definitely some things to like.

Ohio State and Penn State in December due to the early conference championship.

ETA I agree with you overall though. It's very reminiscent of Gards first year when Bo stepped down after losing Dekker, Kaminsky, etc. There's going to be some growing pains.

Same old Terps/Turgeon.  No idea how to score against a zone.  Terps were clearly the more talented team against the Bonnies, but lost due to turnovers and lack of ability to get the ball inside against a 1-3-1 zone.

Turgeon can recruit, but his teams show the same major flaws year after year after year.

Perhaps the worst thing about the loss is missing out on the chance to play a top-30 Kenpom team today, in what could have bolstered a weak OOC schedule.

No stopping Cass Winston when he's hot.  Man that kid took over the entire 2nd half of that game.

Should be a fun game Sunday against Carolina

It is probably gonna be extra bad tomorrow, then.

It was good to see the Terps start last night's game strong, after Friday's debacle.

I think he meant a few weeks not years.  Your Gophers are looking really good so far.
Except for yesterday’s game. As I posted in the NCAA hoops thread, I don’t know what the hell they were doing on O or D once it went to 5 on 3. Baffling.

Agreed.  Brutal to get outscored over a ten minute period with the old hockey two man advantage.

That said, I'm sure they'll focus on that now that they've proven to be deficient in their 5 on 3 game.  Just hope their upcoming opponents don't exploit it.

Terps are averaging 17 turnovers a game, against a fairly weak schedule so far.  On the positive side, they did play reasonably well against the Syracuse zone, although some of that is attributable simply to Huerter going 7 of 9 from deep, including 3 from at least 25 feet.

Early in the season yet, but Justin Jackson appears to be playing himself out of the NBA draft after starting the year as a potential lottery pick.  Bruno Fernando is going to be a star.

Rutgers lost a tough one to a very athletic Florida State team last night, but I'm so excited for the future of this team. That's something I haven't really said since about 2003. The current group still struggles too much offensively and lacks a guy who can consistently knock down the 3, but Pikiell is really a great coach and it's crazy how quickly he flipped the effort, defensive intensity, and rebounding from the Eddie Jordan years.

More talent comes in next season and it could finally be the year a tourney bid is in play.

I think I read something that said this year they faced #1,5,9 before December 1st and last year was #1,5,10.

Rarely do the Spartans get to host a top 5 team at Breslin.  Should be wild.
Going to be a fun time at the Brez. Can’t wait. Place will be rocking.

I didn't get to watch the entire game, but the portions I did catch were inline with what you already mentioned.  They certainly seem to be headed in the right direction.

My hope is that UConn pulls the plug on Ollie before Pike gets some more improvement at Rutgers and shows to be deserving for a return up there.

How did Indiana get paired with Duke? Seems like an easy Duke cover -8.5. Would’ve liked to see MN vs Duke.

Miami will be a great matchup, don’t get me wrong. B1G needs some wins tonight.

For whatever it’s worth, I took Indiana at +9.  Assembly Hall is a tough place to play and even more so for big games.  Duke’s freshmen are going to have to deal with a type of environment they have never experienced.

I’m so glad Vitale isn’t doing this game.

Dakich?  If so, almost as bad.

ETA: Nope, he's doing the tOSU-Clemson game, since his boy transferred to tOSU.

Was once the biggest UM fan, when his kid went there, now the biggest tOSU fan, since his son goes there now.

Agree 100%; can't stand him.  He has a local/weekday radio show in Indiana and it's as bad as you would expect.  I have no clue how he keeps the gigs he has.

The Gophers really seemed to miss McBrayer last night and just looked sloppy overall. Miami played a great game for the 5 point win.

I hate to try and try to pull too many positives out of a loss, but it's hard not to with how Indiana performed against Duke in comparison to where they started this season at.  They were leading with 6 or 7 minutes left in the game, but things just got away from them late.

They just started a pretty tough stretch of games, so it will be interesting to see how they come out of this.  Also if the game by game improvement continues to trend upward...

Duke (L)

at Michigan

Iowa

at Louisville

Notre Dame (neutral site)

Miami is super athletic and got into the paint at will again the Gophers. Tons of dunks.

Considering it was their first quality road opponent I thought MIA played with poise and kept to the game plan. Well coached. Their #10 ranking is legit imo. Not many flaws. I see possible Final Four for MIA.

Pitino played into their halftime changes by not countering with a zone. He was out coached. But fun game. Good to see early season tests.

With the exception of Bruno Fernando, the Terps are just awful to watch this year.  The offense is stagnant, as always.  The second half of the Illinois game was some of the worst basketball I've seen.  25 total turnovers!  There won't be any NCAA bid if they don't get it turned around pretty quickly.

Yeah, I may have been a little optimistic in my outlook. :bag:

I thought they'd gel quicker than they have due to the upper classmen and the 3 returning sophs, but they've just been a damned mess.

Tough win on the road against a much improved Rutgers squad.  They are all tough on the road, no matter who the opponent.

Good to get some much needed rest and practice.  This past 2 weeks has been hell.
