Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

The MD/Iowa women's game was crazy yesterday. Caitlin (sp?) Clark might be the best female college player I've seen since Holdsclaw.

The Terps men go to Penn State today. It's a road game for Maryland, so...... :help:

Selfish "all about me and my team" post:

Reminder of what MSU is rooting for today. Spartans need 3 of these 4 results to get a Big Ten tournament double bye:
* Nebraska wins at Iowa (if the 3 other home teams win and this happens, MSU would be the 3 seed)
* Penn State wins at home against Maryland
* Purdue wins at home vs. Illinois
* Rutgers wins at home against Northwestern

Looks like Purdue is going to hold on.

They are good - but being so reliant on two freshman guards would make me nervous heading into the tournament.

The passing all around from this team is just so bad. I think Loyer is the only one who doesn’t make bad passes.

This conference is just nuts.
This conference top to bottom is battle tested going into the tournament. I think that bodes well for middle seeds, which most likely a lot of the conference will end up being.

Of course the flip side is that the majority of B1G teams barely went .500 in conference this year. Absolutely brutal.

I hope you are right, but in my bracket, I won't pick anyone from the Big Ten to get beyond the S16. Including Purdue.

Ugh. UM with two overtime losses against good teams on the road to probably seal their fate to the NIT.

They are the most frustrating MI team to watch in a while. Enough talent to to be right there with all the good teams but didn't win a single big game. Obviously I want them to win ... but I'd just as soon see this season be over. And then I can just enjoy the rest of college basketball.

Purdue, Indiana, MSU, Northwestern, Iowa, Maryland, and Illinois appear to be safely in. Before yesterday's games, Bracket Matrix had Rutgers as the last 10 seed (67/68 brackets), Wisconsin as the last at-large 11 seed (36/68), PSU 2nd team out (23/68), and UM 4th team out (4/68).

Consensus bubble teams on BM are Rutgers, NC St, Pitt, Nevada, Utah St, Miss St, Wisky, ASU, PSU, Ok St, UM, UNC, Clemson, Oklahoma, Oregon. Those 15 teams are competing for 7 spots.

Here are the 4 B1G bubble resumes, Rutgers, UM, PSU, Wisky in that order:

As far as UM is concerned, beating Rutgers on a neutral court (BTT) is essentially a Quad 1 win. But IMO, I think it will come down to UM beating Purdue. If tey beat them Friday, they’re in, they don’t and they’re out. I think they have a decent chance to beat Purdue. Maybe 20%. If Purdue's guards struggle they are very beatable.

Collins did a great job this year, but Painter should have been COY.

Unranked to start the year and picked to finish in the middle of the BT. Painter did this in a "rebuild" year after losing 70%+ of scoring production and a lottery pick.

Collins over Painter for COY is seems wrong. Purdue won the title by 3 games, with a team picked 5th or 6th preseason. Northwestern was a nice story but expectations were low because they underachieved the past 2 seasons.

Joey Hauser got absolutely robbed.

Wisconsin has scored 18 points at halftime against Ohio St. Badgers are shooting 30.4% from the field and are 0-7 on 3PT attempts while the Buckeyes are 68.2% and 4-7. Thankfully, we've long known it would be a crime if this Wisconsin team made the tournament and I'm happy to be put out of my misery.

Yes. They are not good.

Time for Gard to go.

I'm not there yet but would say the seat is maybe getting a bit warm. The new AD Mcintosh fired two huge legacy coaches in Chryst and Granato in less than a year, as well as dumping Leonhard, so we know he's not a patient man who is going to pay homage to history. But he can't ignore Gard's track record of recent and historical success, including sharing Big 10 championships in two of the past three seasons. For me, the nature of college hoops is that even the best programs have down years and this was certainly a down year. They lost the player of the year (lottery pick) and a 5th year senior and the younger recruits simply weren't up to it.

In UM defense, Rutgers defense was stifling. Scary even. Good blueprint for how to stop DICKinson. I assume he'll leave, but if he stays, teams should watch this game on how to defend him.

Thank god this season is over.
:goodposting:

Several good players on the team, but just struggled to score consistently. And I have no idea how they kept running Tschetter out on the floor:

Tschetter missed shot
Tschetter turnover
Tschetter foul
Tschetter travel

I mean, he had at most one good play per game, and the rest was a disaster.
