Report: Bills put McGahee on trading block

ESPN.com reports that the Bills have made it known at the NFL Scouting Combine that Willis McGahee is available in a trade.

We're only surprised it's taken this long for reports to leak out. The Giants are the first time to show interest, saying they will investigate. Giants GM Jerry Reese said, "We're looking for Brandon (Jacobs) to probably carry the ball 20 times and for another running back (to carry) 15 times." Feb. 24 - 5:04 pm et

No surprise, but at what price? Also, I'd be very surprised if Jacobs carried the ball more than McGahee.

Jauron put any rumors about Willis McGahee's position with the team to rest.

"Willis is our starting runningback," Jauron said. "He's a performer. He works hard. He works through injuries, an awfully tough guy. Willis is our runningback as we go into the offseason."
http://www.wgr550.com/bills/fullstory.php?id=2189I wouldn't be upset to see him traded, provided they can get good value.

I own McGahee as a #3 RB in every league I'm in.

It will either be

;) or

for me, regarding McGahee this off-season.

Hey Ron, which teams would make you  versus  ?I'm very interested in seeing where he winds up because the guy in my dynasty league seems willing to involve him in trade talks.

The problem is his trade value will sky rocket if he goes to a team like Baltimore, Denver, etc.. I really don't see a team he could go to that will lessen his value anymore than it already is. So if I were you I would acquire him now before he gets traded. His value will most likely go up no matter what.

What about the Giants? I can see Baltimore and Denver, but with Jacobs in the mix wouldn't that reduce McGahee's value?

I honestly do not seeing his value going down if he goes to the Giants. I think he will still be the feature back in that offense which is 10 times better than Buffalo. He will lose some goaline carries to Jacobs, so that will hurt him a bit, but I see him as a 20-25 carry a game back in that offense while Jacobs gets 8-12.

I can easily see a scenario where his trade value goes down... it's not at all unreasonably to think that he could end up in a RBBC somewhere. In the NYG option mentioned in the article, he'd definitely lose value.

I agree

According to Rotoworld he's only scheduled to make $905,000 this year before becoming a free agent. What's the total story on the cap hit the Bills would take, i.e. the signing bonus? If the hit isn't much greater than that, then this could very well happen.

A side note: let's say the Bills do trade him. Any guesses on who Buffalo signs/trades for/drafts to replace him? I know it would all be speculation, but what do you think? Are we looking at the the J. Lewis, C. Brown, etc. group, or do the Bills draft a guy with hopes of making him their feature back?

edit to add: I see this question was addressed in the previous post as I typed this.

McGahee will sign a contract that, counting all incentives, could be worth as much as $15.528 million. In bonus money, he will receive $4.15 million. That includes an initial $1 million signing bonus, a guaranteed option bonus of $2.75 million due next March, and a $400,000 roster bonus.

The "base" contract, minus incentives, is worth $7.053 million.
cap hit isn't an issue at all for the Bills. he's also a very inexpensive player for this year that could be valuable to a team with cap issues. the team who acquires him could also use the franchise tag on him if they had trouble signing him to an extension.

There is no team that is going to trade for a RB with 1 year left on his deal that thinks as much of himself as McGahee if they don't plan on signing him to a new deal and making him the feature back...

Browns would lessen his value.
